Eh. Clark is the one to replace Cerra given the similarities of outside ball use and speed. Tucker and Brodie are inside only. Tucker is the one that needs to take the next step. Already 70-80 games. Need to show that consistency and elite. Very lucky to be on an AFL list
Eh yourself. We're talking about where the list is at not simply individual players.

Can't really let that one slide. Cerra's 20m sprint was above 3 seconds. Speed has always been his biggest weakness. That is the reason he's a very good midfielder and not elite. He has a sublime skillset, but he's not very good at bursting away from a contest in order to use it. Cerra's ability to use both sides means he doesn't need to try as hard to find space, but he does get caught out for lack of leg speed. Tucker is basically a one-sided Cerra.

I remember the high scores in the early rounds last year but I'm surprised how it's been so far.
Players look cooked by the 4th quarter.

Probably the most racially vilified player of his era, and continued to play at a very high level.
If that's not tough, I don't know what is.
Go back and listen to what Lyon, Brereton etc used to say to him as they were going against him.
Mentally tough, and he was bloody tough.
Whole family were, from Nollamara, "Knucklemara" in the ammos old discourse.

We talking about the same guy?

Lewis Jetta, who played for Sydney then West Coast, amazing player, enjoyed his scintillating speed, was the first player who kicked goals at will out the back. Then reinvented himself as a rebounding half back. Tough? Or to better word it, contested player, nah. Probably tough, but wasn’t a contested possession winner. Did his best work being fed the ball.

That’s not really how it works though. If Henry wasn’t on the radar, we would not have traded made the earlier pick swaps that gave us pick 49.
Also you are forgetting the 2020 second rounder that we had to trade to Port for picks 52 & 55 to match the bid as well. We could for example, have not matched the bid on Henry, then packaged up our pick 49 plus that 2020 second rounder and moved up around pick 25 or 30 in the 2019 draft, where we could then have access to a player like Jeremy Sharp, Trent Rivers, Harrison Jones or Chad Warner. That would be a fairer comparison in your hypothetical.
I’m Not saying we shouldn’t have taken Henry but he definitely cost us more than the pick used on Cal Jaimeson.
Sorry, I was talking about not matching the bid - not that Henry wasn't on the radar.

Fremantle Dockers recruit Will Brodie ready to prove himself at second club with round one chance

Recruit Will Brodie will be aiming to cement himself in Fremantle’s side, regardless of whether captain Nat Fyfe is available, when he plays his first game for the Dockers in their season-opener against Adelaide on Sunday.

Brodie and Jordan Clark will make their first appearances in their new colours at Adelaide Oval after struggling for opportunity at their previous clubs last season.

Former top-10 draft pick Brodie played just four games for Gold Coast last season, while speedster Clark found himself both injured and out of favour at times at Geelong.

The absence of Fyfe will ensure plenty of centre square time for Brodie, 23, as he joins forces with young guns Andrew Brayshaw and Caleb Serong and veteran David Mundy.

Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir hoped to keep Brodie in the side when Fyfe returned, likely against St Kilda at Optus Stadium next Sunday.

“These things have a habit of working themselves out in the long term,” Longmuir said.

“So this week we just expect him to play as an inside mid. He’s proven that he’s very good at the contest and very good with his pressure. He’s had a fantastic pre-season and he’s ready to go and ready to prove himself at a new club.”

The Dockers have a 5-5 record in games played without Fyfe over the past two seasons.

Fremantle will also be missing ruckman Sean Darcy and key forward Matt Taberner, with Longmuir confident back-up ruckman Lloyd Meek and teenage forward Josh Treacy would step up.

He described Meek as one of the club’s big improvers over the summer and said Treacy, who kicked 13 goals in 15 games in his debut season, was fitter and stronger than last year.

The Crows are coming off consecutive finishes of last and 15th, but stunned Geelong with an upset opening-round win at Adelaide Oval last year.

The Dockers have won both matches between the teams since Longmuir and Adelaide counterpart Matthew Nicks took over ahead of the 2020 season, including a 12-point win at Adelaide Oval in round five last season when Taberner kicked four goals.

Nicks said the Crows wouldn’t underestimate a Fremantle outfit missing three key players, but pointed out they were missing some quality of their own in Taylor Walker (suspension), Rory Laird (hand) and Paul Seedsman (concussion).

“Nat Fyfe is s superstar of the game, but it’s not about breathing easier,” Nicks said.

“I have no doubt we will see the emergence of two or three that step in. They are three very, very strong footballers for them but other guys will step in and they will be hungry.”

Draftees Josh Rachele and Jake Soligo will make their debuts, while prized Sydney recruit Jordan Dawson will make his first club appearance and Matt Crouch and Wayne Milera will return from long-term injuries.

10th in the Doig wasn't he? But I'm not advocating for or against Colyer. I think our selection of players needs to change as we become a side contending for finals.

The Doig is not necessarily a great measure of how good a player is. Like many B&F, it favours players who the coaches like because they try hard. Schultz and Switta also were in the top 10. I would have none of them in my preferred 22. Remember that Ethan Hughes came 7th in the Doig and is nowhere near the side now.

No, it favours players who play their role as given by the coaches.

I’m quietly optimistic for tomorrow even though we’re outsiders @2.20 (when I last checked). We have lost Fyfe, Darcy and Tabs but have Brodie, Meek and Treacy. Crows have 2 debutants , 3 long term injuries returning for their first game and no Walker, Seedsman or Laird.

If we start switched on, with a hard edge to win early contests to avoid getting on back foot, believe we will grind out a win.

Brodie is the key to this, funnily enough. Really need his inside work and lift the midfield. Serong and Brayshaw do their thing.
Be interesting to see who’s that fourth midfielder. Tucker, Banfield, Mundy.

What use is a player's performance of it doesn't serve the team?

The B&F is a bit better guide than evidence-free (highly impressionistic, emotive, preconception-driven) top of the head stuff. Club B&F's are guided by defined criteria and informed by specific knowledge as to how players meet the tasks set for them.

They are the best guide as far as a player's performance that best serve the team goes.

I've noticed it favours players who play most games - which is fair.
