Interesting comment by Bev here:

Beveridge said Saturday’s side - talls Tom Campbell, Jordan Roughead, Tom Boyd and Jack Redpath have all been named- would essentially be the one that takes on Fremantle in Round 1.

“This is like a Round 1 team,” Beveridge said.

“Right here and now, if no one gets injured and everyone plays well, then almost the same outfit will…trot out in Round 1.”

So it sounds like forward line and rucks is sorted for Round 1 and now it's down to Daniel/Biggs/Jong/Horvat/McLean for a spot or maybe two if Dicko misses and Roberts/Collins/Adams for a spot or possibly two if Hamling misses. Or maybe even Roughead will spend a lot of time down back with the forward line already having both Boyd and Rdpath down there.

Cant justify playing Boyd unless hes doing significant minutes in the ruck, and cant justify Rough unless hes first ruck tbh. That is a very tall set up. If we can manage to integrate a number of talls into the team to stretch the opposition height wise but still manage to blow them away with our smalls running power we'll be top 4 maybe higher.

Think 3/4 will be selected.

Collins looks to have overtaken Roberts in the KPD spots as well and will only be kept out if we go with a more mobile KPD structure of Hamling (if hes fit) Adams and Morris.

My prediction is that the latter will be the case (or maybe I am just hoping so :p).

Would love to see Murph start the game at CHF, would definitely throw off Freo, hell chuck Stringer behind the ball for the first ball of the game too. Hit the contest hard running off half back and get us going forward.

Murph leading up and delivering inside 50 would be fantastic for the likes of Boyd, Red and well everyone. Not for the whole game though but we have enough options to cover him for a bit.
Yea but Fyfe put it in their 50 first.

I'm pretty surprised by the attitude towards Boyd's game last week, I didn't view it poorly at all.

He just wasted his chances with 0.3. Did some ok up the ground work on occasion.

Wow if so we'd have to win, we'll have 2 more players than Freo for a start.

Some poor kicking didn't help his cause Dannnnnnnnnn, but that aside I thought it was a serviceable hit out.... He'll be better tomoz

It's very easy to criticise. Fun, too.

In all seriousness, I have quite an optimistic view of his first hit out. He looked to be in considerably better physical shape, he was able to get separation on his man quite regularly, he attacked the ball in the air and on the ground (and was rewarded), and his kicking for goal looked more wind-affected than evidence of any technical flaws.

It's interesting to note that an overwhelming number of his detractors are fans of Melbourne (we have Hogan, so nobody else's young forward is any good), North Melbourne (incapable of luring anyone under 28 to the club) and St Kilda (blew their wad on a swingman of ill-repute who can't play this year).

They should really look at that in themselves.

I thought he was alright but hes just a bit frustrating to be honest. I cant see him playing many poor games from here on out either its just I feel that he can be better which is the annoying bit. He's got all the skills and attributes to be one of the best forwards in the league but he just looks so tame in everything he does. I know there's players who just look laconic in everything they do and they can stll be guns but its not really what you want in a key forward. I couldnt care less if he fluffs a kick or drops a sitter but I just want to see him look like he cares when he attacks the ball. Like i said earlier ill withhold judgement til the real stuff starts but I want to see something in that regard sooner rather than later.

Very keen to see him tomorrow, it should be perfectly set up for a big one.

It's confidence for mine. He got heavily involved early in the game and was attacking the ball with vigour but after he missed a couple set shots he looked a bit disappointed. That's not excusing it - he can't afford to drop his head/level when he makes a few mistakes. I just think the major reason for the lack of aggression everybody talks about is a lack of confidence in his ability or body just yet. Now if that doesn't come as he develops it's a problem, but right now I'm not overly concerned. I've seen plenty of signs of aggression, he just needs to be more consistent in his attack throughout games.

My major point though is that, when we're talking about who should play/how players performed, your expectations/thoughts on contract/etc aren't really relevant. I think too many are viewing his game with an, "I think he should be playing better than he is," approach rather than judging it on its merits. Of those trialled in that role I thought he was infinitely more impressive than Roughead and slightly better than Redpath (who got more of the ball but for mine didn't have the same impact). The Redpath/Boyd distinction is arguable but I don't think it was clear cut either way. I think the biggest difference is that Redpath is being compared to where he was 12 months ago whereas Boyd is being compared to what we want him to be.

Either that or I just saw Boyd's game differently. There's quite a difference in how I perceived his game and how others seem to have, though. Hopefully he lights it up tomorrow and this discussion means nothing. :)

He'll be fine. As I've said a thousand times, he's not strong enough yet to command his area and, until he is, you're not going to see the finished product.

um excuse me for panicking but......

WHY THE FUNK ISNT DICKSON PLAYING?
50goals dont grow on trees!

Injured?
Out-of-favor?
Busy going to a wedding?
or Not young and sexy enough?

We don't the funk know.
Dickson has been out for a few weeks but none of the so called footy journalists have asked the funking question. I certainly want to know but obviously the press is funked.
Let's hope he comes back soon before we actually go into a funk.

I'm hearing Dickson has a groin issue(no that's not a joke)

Possible OP but I can't confirm that as of yet

I'm hearing he is too scared to leave his home after someone only known as MD befriended him on tinder, a date was set up when a masked MD turned up and berated Dicko with everything that is wrong with his footy game ;)

Final changes from today mean that we could very well be playing both Red & Boyd, with Boyd being the second ruck. And presuming Hamling is fit it will be him and either of Collins or Adams (I'd pick Adams). That would leave two of today's smalls to come out (3 if Dicko is right).

B: Boyd Adams Morris
HB: Wood Hamling** Murphy
C: JJ Bont Hunter
HF: Stevens Stringer Suckling
F: Boyd Redpath Dahlhaus
R: Campbell* Wallis Macrae

Daniel Biggs Libba Picken

Emerg: McLean Roughy Hrovat

**If Hamling isn't right Roberts plays
* If Campbell isn't right Minson plays, if Minson isn't right Roughy plays.

If Dickson is right I'd probably take out Biggs and use Stevens across halfback.

(Hope I'm not missing anyone obvious)

My round 1 assuming Dickson, Minno and Hammer are right.

Definitely no red and Boyd for me.

Still like the Roberts, hamling, Morris back line. Roberts uses it well and is calm with the ball. Adams uses it.....err.....not well, and panics with the ball.

Still think we should play two key defenders and Morris.
