It shouldn't be. Our dictionaries are currently being re-written as we pander to people who obviously didn't pay enough attention in school. "I bet you the last time we played against each other" will never be acceptable to me, nor should it be.

Though a consistent and respectable language wouldn't have clangers like "restive" and "pulchritude" which mean precisely the opposite of what they sound like they mean.

Without looking into it in any great depth, my best guess would be internet meme culture (see GIF of someone "fading").

On topic: is anyone else quietly optimistic about the Doggies having a rough summer, including JUH being out, that we jump them Round 1?

I was just thinking about that this morning.

It's unfortunate JUH plays in the one position they have ridiculous depth in.

Darcy alone scored 7 goals against us last time. What is our answer to him this time around?

Bont + Treloar + Libba + Richards + Kennedy + Sanders is still a formidable midfield too.

If our guys can hold their own against them then the season will be looking very rosy indeed.

We also need Archer to ensure Weightman doesn't get his typical 2-3 goals against us.

Having said all that, I'd love to partake in some preseason optimism. Where will our squad have an advantage over them?

Oh i don’t think we’ll win, but it should be closer to the 19 point margin mid year rather than the 90 point margin at the end of the year

Just in general; "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts". This is from 1000 yards away, but the preseason reports from the NM people I speak with and on this board, compared to the preseaon the Dogs are having (not just JUH they have other issues), are night and day. I wouldn't be shocked if the Dogs have a slow start to the year.

Our path to victory is really just halve the contest in the mid and hold their forwards to something reasonable. Our forward line have been very good to excellent at taking their chances over the last few years, in no small part this is due to Larkey. He now has some help in Darling, and PC and CZ look primed. So even if we get a few less chances up front, I think we take more of them compared to the Dogs. Weightman is the only one that I fear getting off the chain.

We could target Darcy imo. Have someone playing hard on him, Chom and Logue for example and then having Chom or even someone like Maley target him for intercepting. He's tall but if they stop his run and jump at the ball then that will stop him.

If we set up to attack off that and don't **** it up we could really **** them up. But we need to show more than we've shown for a while to do that.

Their midfield destroyed us last time which is why we lost by 17 goals. I guess there's room for a decent turnaround, but I wouldn't be taking it to the bank.

Getting caught up in our ripping pre season form, players that could be knocked over by a string breeze putting on 8kg’s because of a photo, Darling our saviour... ohhh boy, its long way to fall when you build up so much hype. Once bitten? More like 5 times but hey we are a very young squad so we need to see the improvement in individuals to give us hope at least. I'm prepared to be bitten a sixth time but I just maybe a complete sucker.

Im North to the bone mate. Dont allow my frustration and negativity to diminish where this club sits with me. Ive been a member for a very long time in a period of zero success. Ive turned up to games (not so much 2024, chose work over footy on most occasions) week in and week out, standing on the outer or on level 2 giving out praise and sprays of all kinds.

I want the club to taste some success, wins and move out of the shit hole its in. Until that day happens, I cant be positive. Im a nuffy not a lunatic
