Not gonna win anything with that sort of efficiency.
Well, that's what you get when you've got Joe, Jack and Hippy in your forward line.

One of the commentators described the game having a finals atmosphere.........Our forwards have shown what we're like in finals.

If we get to the finals those guys will let us down all over again.

As pointed out by half the board before the game. Danger game. Lads are just not up to it from a mental aspect. Away from Gabba with opposition crowd giving it to them at all costs and cheering on their home team. We just can’t handle it. Melt under pressure.
We had our chances thought we hung in to be honest and probably should of put them away in the third, crows played well tonight , no shame in losing to them.

Well let's hope the start and end of that half are more indicative of the rest of the game.

We lost that game off our own boot. Whether it was the second quarter giving up goals off shanked kicked in the defensive fifty or the inability to score in the third with one of the more dominant runs of footy we’ve been on.

We got the ball inside fifty, won clearances, pressured well, and just refused to convert in that third. Which just made it harder to watch when they broke through and managed to kick goals every time.

Rich was just shit in the second quarter but was effective out the back of stoppages otherwise. Harris was nullified pretty well and barely made impact with the wet ball. Gardiner did well.

I really don’t think many of our players had shockers because we managed to dominate around the ground most of the game. So honestly my opinion is based upon scoring accuracy.

Charlie was great ily Charlie.
Hipwood should’ve had a second shot in front but missing the first one was shit.
Coleman shanked his open shot in front.
Daniher shanked one kick and was unlucky on the around the body kick but kicked straight otherwise.
Zorko was meh.
Bailey couldn’t convert an easy crumb goal and needed to covert the dribble kick if he wasn’t going to try and find a better shot.
Clugs goal was great.
Rayner was mediocre from his shots.
Ashcroft missed an easy one.

But most of all, Gunston had two good shots as goal and missed both. I don’t think they abused him, but when you’re meant to be a low touch high impact player you can’t mess it up when you get your chance. Charlie is another low touch high impact player and he managed to finish when it mattered. It’s the performance that leaves the biggest sour taste in my mouth simply because I could see every other player at least having an impact in other ways.

I think we all expected the possibility of a loss but I don’t think anyone would’ve wanted it to happen this way.

Every time we think they've turned the corner, the mental heeby geebies bubble to the surface in a big game against super primed opposition. The fumbles, overrunning the ball, flimsy tackling efforts, losing of feet, timid footpassing, undisciplined free kicks, kicking for goal...

Dunkley terrific.

no surprise as to who emerges from their warren when joe has his first poor game in over a month

Rich in the VFL for now at least I think. We looked much better with Wilmot down back.

As for who comes in for him I’m not sure, either of Dev/Prior maybe.

Gardiner looked good too, thought he played well. Hopefully it’s a sign he’s back to his best and fit now. Wouldn’t mind a back 3 of Harris/Gardiner/Payne rolling into the hawks, although Lester has been good.

I’d also drop Gunston, and him being subbed out instead of swinging back to defence may mean Fagan agreed at this point.

Shocking display of basic skills. Crows were cleaner with the ball, hungrier at the contest and ran harder all game. Surprised we even had a chance to win that had we kicked straight considering how poorly we played.

Incredible how bad the likes of Andrews and Berry in particular played. McCluggage and Bailey zero composure just fumbling everything.
Spot on
Bailey was an embarrassment
Ran over the ball so many times and then playing for frees
I think we need to tweak the team a little still.
Not dissapointed losing, the crows deserved the win just our composure all over the park was terrible
Blaze away football from us ,that’s a problem still with us
To me that’s a result of the other team over working us so as I say fully deserved win for them

Could have given us a golden ticket to top 4 maybe top 2 but we spilt the cake. Who kicks 9 points in a qtr ? Kick 3 or 4 of that 9 we win ! Simple as that , too many showed up but didn’t play , cheers to Charlie least he had a crack . Umpires were off to walkers for drinks after the game , typical way things go down in Adelaide but the loss sits in our own lap

Due for a loss so no big drama, but I thought that game was a bit of a glimpse of the future. That is no Zorko, Rich, Lester or Gunston. I wonder how far we can push into the back end of the season without turning this team over a bit. Zorko is almost the perfect sub so start there.

Good to see Gardner out there again. Is Berry carrying something? Very slow to accelerate.

Wasn't impressed with how we let the young Crows bully us around the ground though.

I agree what others have said that I think we looked better with Wilmot down back in place of Rich.

I also think we need to try something else in the forward line with either Cam, Fort or Fullerton taking Gunston’s place for a couple of weeks to see how that works.

I’m worried Fages doesn’t have the kahunas to make those calls though. He took 23 rounds to drop a one legged Lyons last year.

We gifted them a bunch of easy goals through brutal unforced errors. Then they finished a couple of low percentage chances - that’s the margin basically.

Doesn’t mean they didn’t deserve to win but throw in a hometown umpiring special and there are reasons why it happened.

I’m happy to concede on Gunston. Get him out and play fort.

Gunston defenders (including myself) in a meeting of the great minds to conclude the defence and concede on all points.

Mark this historic date in modern history.

due for a loss? ffs!

We were crucified for most of the evening by the umpiring I thought but the crows came to play. The Hipwood to Thiltorpe marking comparison was the most damning.

The Bad:

Berry looked very off today, his efforts a few times were deplorable and he seemed to have zero intensity.

Gunston had another almost game, where has the clinical finisher that played for hawthorn go? His only contested mark was touched off the boot and didn't count.

McCarthy was non existent and also provided zero pressure.

I also thought Wilmot was pretty quiet, but he came together in that last quarter.

Rich also had a pretty rusty game back and has definitely lose 10m on his kicking. That still makes him a big 50-55m kicker but he doesn't have the 65m cannon that uses to break packs. That kick to Coleman should of cleared that contest up the middle of the ground easy. Only potential respite is the ball being soaking wet.

The Good:

McCluggage in that 3rd quarter really came good, Dunkley set an extremely high standard, Andrews mostly seemed good l, Starch I thought did good to at least compete hard, Cameron didn't stop trying.

What I liked was the effort to at least play to the final whistle against a hostile crowd, looked like it was going to finish a 40pt loss but we pegged it back to something at least mildly respectable.

Oh here he is, the Daniher hater- where have you been all year??? Do tell. Waiting for him to have one bad game???

Best way to beat the Lions is to play slingshot football up the field. We are often too slow on transition but our coaching panel keep on picking too many slow players. We are not good enough to ignore the strengths of the opposition.

Tonight was the night to rest Gunston or Hipwood in the conditions and I am not sure that Rich should be an automic selection anymore. Zac Bailey needs to improve. I could go on. Some of VFL players must wonder what they need to do to get in the team.
