Adelaide hasn’t be good hunting ground for us even our 3-peat team struggled there at times, I only remember one decent performance there in history in 2019 when Hinkley pulled “terrorise Lachie”. Something to work on for sure!

We're 0-3 against top 8 teams away from home. It's been a pattern for years and they still haven't rectified it.

What a load of horse crap.

We lost to Port in round one. There were no ladder positions then.

We lost to the Doggies in round three. They had lost their first two games they were sixteenth.

We beat Carlton at Marvel in round eight. They were sixth at the time.

We lost to Adelaide in round eleven. At the end of round ten they were 8th on the ladder, however when the game started they were down to tenth.

Got to have a chuckle at some posters saying won't win a final because we lost tonight , jesus get a grip they play good quality footy at home and should've beat the Pies but for bad kicking ,just like we let em off tonight , it happens that's footy. Have a good break and refresh and go win another 8-9 games in second half.

bullshit, too many people on this site just do some sort of weird covering for poor play.
No need to get your panties in a twist bear... no team plays at their best every week, if you look back over past seasons on the vast majority of occasions even the eventual Premiers have suffered a bad loss or 2 during the season.

We aren't going to go undefeated and I'd rather lose to Top 8 teams away, than bottom 4 teams at home.

There are levels to these things and losing to Top 8 teams away is not the metric to worry about.

But we do keep losing to top 8 teams away, during the home and away season AND finals. This is the point. We're not making that final leap because of it.

We were crucified for most of the evening by the umpiring I thought but the crows came to play. The Hipwood to Thiltorpe marking comparison was the most damning.

The Bad:

Berry looked very off today, his efforts a few times were deplorable and he seemed to have zero intensity.

Gunston had another almost game, where has the clinical finisher that played for hawthorn go? His only contested mark was touched off the boot and didn't count.

McCarthy was non existent and also provided zero pressure.

I also thought Wilmot was pretty quiet, but he came together in that last quarter.

Rich also had a pretty rusty game back and has definitely lose 10m on his kicking. That still makes him a big 50-55m kicker but he doesn't have the 65m cannon that uses to break packs. That kick to Coleman should of cleared that contest up the middle of the ground easy. Only potential respite is the ball being soaking wet.

The Good:

McCluggage in that 3rd quarter really came good, Dunkley set an extremely high standard, Andrews mostly seemed good l, Starch I thought did good to at least compete hard, Cameron didn't stop trying.

What I liked was the effort to at least play to the final whistle against a hostile crowd, looked like it was going to finish a 40pt loss but we pegged it back to something at least mildly respectable.

Linc had more touches than Ashcroft or Clug

When they went forward they seemed to have more space in our D50, they played on the rebound, we were camped in their D50 most of the night and it was bloody cramped, dry weather we win that comfortably IMO.

I agree with the dry weather point but it obviously doesn’t matter. The frustrating part is we won basically all important wet weather metrics: clearances and contested possessions. Lost tackles but we always do and out tackled them inside fifty. Won turnovers but 63% to 70% disposal efficiency showed that they managed to hit their kicks. Playing on the rebound isn’t meant to be an effective wet weather strategy but they did it anyway.

well was afraid this would happen, deflating end to the weekend wont need to adjust my mindset at all to be in Monday morning mode.

I fear that top 2 will be really crucial to us winning this year's flag and we squandered a great opportunity tonight.

Adelaide at home are a pretty decent team and the conditions were certainly difficult though so hopefully it's not the end of the world, turned off with 10 minutes to go so won't cast any votes.

The backline selection may be tricky for our next game as from what I saw Gardiner was very good and Payne has to play, would have been handy on Tilthorpe tonight.

See you all in 2 weeks :(

Just want to point out that it's difficult to lose a final to a non-top 8 side.

I agree what others have said that I think we looked better with Wilmot down back in place of Rich.

I also think we need to try something else in the forward line with either Cam, Fort or Fullerton taking Gunston’s place for a couple of weeks to see how that works.

I’m worried Fages doesn’t have the kahunas to make those calls though. He took 23 rounds to drop a one legged Lyons last year.

Rayner for Gunston is a good shout because it gets Kai into the team, could be a good move.

Some people need a coke & a bex and a good lie down.

It's a tight comp. Every team is going to lose games. We were never going through with two losses.

We’re going to lose more games after the bye so losing a very winnable one after kicking 9 behinds in a quarter is going to piss people off.

Agree! Some crucial away games coming up against Melbourne, Fremantle, St Kilda, probably need to win 2 of them plus all of our Gabba games. Very competiitve season, Top 2 will be difficult.

the thing is though we did enough to win. 7,970 inside 50 to 20........I exaggerate slightly but joe can't catch it, gunston, the same, and Hippy likewise.

Nah tad harsh just had a mare of a night 1'9 in 3rd qtr cost us. Sitting 8-3 in third position is pretty good spot to be in, crows play good footy at home , think we'll be right.
IMO i dont think it is a tad harsh. In melbourne all we here on radio is this premiership is collingwoods to lose. Collingwood that far in front of everyone else. Thats from collingwood supporters and other opposition supporters on radio. When i query the hosts on radio station SEN 1116 that have people heard of a team called Brisbane lions the feedback that comes back is we cant be trusted yet with your away record. We are not taken seriously. You are great at the gabba but we can't have faith and cant trust you outside of Brisbane unfortunately. That probably wont worry our club what others think but when we have opportunities to try and bury this theory we unfortunately cant do it often enough. Annoys the crap out of me what people think about our club where they dont take us seriously away from home but hey pretty hard to knock them.

As pointed out by half the board before the game. Danger game. Lads are just not up to it from a mental aspect. Away from Gabba with opposition crowd giving it to them at all costs and cheering on their home team. We just can’t handle it. Melt under pressure.

Can’t agree with that when we did basically did everything right except kick straight.
