Yeah maybe I should go on a rant about how bad Rayner is. Not like there are dozens already on this board 😂
Cam cannot help being #1 draft pick and the expectations, but even allowing for an ACL, his inconsistent performances resemble a player taken in the later part of the second round of a draft. I actually think he has been mismanaged, he should have been dropped at some point in 2018-2019, but the club likely did not want the fall out of dropping a #1 pick. He is a power athlete who because of his leap can play as a third tall forward, but because of the insistence of playing him in the middle, I would argue Morris has almost taken that third tall forward role from him. I know somehow he was in our top 10 B&F last year.

If we are offering Hugh over $1 to 1.1m for six years, then we should look at what trade value we could get for Cam.

If we let Cam have a block in the VFL to play as close to a full time mid as his tank allows could it help his season at this stage?
doubt it, there is such a gap between VFL and AFL, it is not a fitness issue, as according to many posters, Cam was looking really fit during the preseason. Asking Cam to play large minutes in the midfield and expect strong two way running is like asking Payne to play on the wing for 4 Q's

Sorry, bouncing between BigFooty and family, so can't reply properly.

I was talking in a couple of years for Will and Neale.

Waiting to see what Levi and Marshall offer at senior level before anointing them as saviours. Same with Annable the year after. Just have this feeling we'll still need an x-factor type in the midfield, as it projects to be very one paced and undersized with the players mentioned.

Not anointing either Levi or Sam as saviours, but Levi is very clearly a high end talent and Marshall has a lot of AFL qualities - you can at the very least bank on Levi.

Mids are also generally the easiest positions to trade in, so we'll not only have the talent we already have/about to bring in, but can target guys who will further the midfield mix.

I almost think we should just drop Rayner and play him as a midfielder in the VFL for a month and see how he goes.

The undersized has been an issue for sometime but we struggle to change it. Only slower workhorses seem bigger and all our fast x factor players are tiny. Balance doesn't look to be changing any time soon

I wouldn't call our midfield undersized with Berry and Dunkley in there.

Another game where we just weren't focused until we got 3/4 goals behind.
Clawed our way back to just 8 points and then appeared to lose interest in playing a certain way to actually score.
Similar to other games we lost earlier in the year.
Adding Ryan another low possession KPF was a big mistake in selection.

We are outside the 8 and that's where we belong when we play like this.

Wilmot has to be moved to the wing to allow Brain to get some full AFL games under his belt.
With Linc out i would reluctantly move Zorko forward when Starcevich is available so Brain can get a run of games.

Logan Morris although a low possession KPF at least can take a contested mark and is a reliable kick on goal.
So, keep playing Morris until it is obvious he needs a break at AFL level.

Maybe we jag a good player in the MSD next Wednesday but that would be like winning the lottery.

For me, it's not so much about helping Cam, it's about finding the right mix of personal to have a functioning team, with as few passengers as possible, with the current game plan we appear wedded to.

For whatever reason, Fagan won't play Cam in the two potential roles we'd all prefer to see, either as an undersized third tall, or as a proper midfielder.

Pretty depressing start to the work week.

Jack Gunston back in Coleman winning form
Lions season over
My favourite posters, briztoon and Nathan Barley , are fighting again.

Feel like shit. Wish we won the grand final last year so this would all hurt a bit less.

Honestly, tag me later tonight so I can reply to this.

Short reply, new rules around matching Father Sons and Academy kids, and the introduction of Tassie, potentially impact our ability to trade in a genuine quality mid over the next 4 drafts, and still be able to match our top academy kid.

Our pressure was poor, mostly in the situations where we really needed it and they ended up running away.

All of our forwards seem to go for the same ball. So many times we needed 1 or 2 to stay down for the ground all but they all got sucked in and it was an easy transition for the Hawks.

15.10 v 10.15

Midfield isn't our problem. Forwards play well enough to get the shots, but their lack of accuracy is killing us. As it has all year.

Whatever magic they were drinking last year needs to be bought in bulk.

I slightly disagree. Cameron had like 6 shots for one goal and certainly could’ve changed how we looked early but our midfield also collapsed whenever Hawthorn ran forward with numbers. The only thing that stopped that was Neale basically doing it all himself. Our midfield also went half the game just completely missing their forward targets causing an easy turnover to score off of.

So many easy set shots were given away from poor midfield defending giving up an easy inside fifty entry.

Won’t help him this season but would probably help his career. Surely playing some full time mid in the twos can help build his tank. Also I think he might be too stuck in an x-factor mentality and should work on doing the little things better with the pressure off. He won’t be expected to be the point of difference, just get inside and do the little things.

At one stage they flashed up on the scoreboard top 5 clearance players. 4 were Hawks mids/onballers, the other was Oscar.
