My impression is that Membrey tried but was not a force at all. He was lucky to take that mark in the last, as a St Kilda player clearly pushed the WC defender back and was not pinged. Membrey was courageous for sure, marking the ball side on with momentum and in the air. He goaled, which is great. I think Sharman brings more to the team at AFL level now, maybe not much and line ball. That all said, Members was picked and Sharman wasn't and for momentum I think they'll keep it like that. Either of them could play and kick four or be almost invisible and be subbed.
Membrey looks a shadow of what he was in the forward line, had a couple of good moments late in the WCE game, but practically unsighted earlier. Probably Sharman is more versatile, and is a natural forward. Caminiti is improving, but his recovery and second efforts are not quite there yet. It wont happen, but I would like to see Heath parked deep forward for game, second ruck in place of Caminiti.

Not sure that’s right
I’ve seen Bonner miss King under no pressure on weekend by 15 metres
I’ve seen him middle of the ground no immediate pressure…dribble ball along the ground to a defender…
He’s hit n miss his turn overs tell u that
I am also convinced Brad Hill under any sort of pressure is a poor kick ..
Under no pressure?? Different player altogether
I trust Nas more
Sincs most
Even Naz fluffs a few per game.

Supporters contradict themselves if they want Sharman to replace Bonner.

Sharman is without doubt a VFL player and not capable at AFL level.

Why all of this negative focus on Bonner but then calls for a VFL grade player to be selected. It's time to move past Sharman as he won't improve us as he's been gifted 40 odd games to prove himself and just hasn't even come close.
Sort of agree. Let Sharmy kill it at vfl for a stint and force selection.

I think Seb Ross is the only one in danger of being dropped. Not sure what his role was on the weekend (looked to be on the wing) but he’s not performing at the moment. Crouch is the obvious replacement.

I’d give Membrey and Caminiti another week but Sharman is knocking on the door. King should get through but boy does he need the bye. I reckon a few of them do.

Hopefully Camaniti is given a chance to hold down the key role, watched the replay of the 2nd half again and he's such an aggressive competitor, Sharman not so much. And I think Sharman has had plenty of opportunity to prove he is capable at AFL level but just can't play the grade. He is good at VFL level though.

I'd like to see Heath be given his debut instead, that's if Hayes is way off.
hayes i think is 5-6 weeks off.

He has lost a lot of confidence this year. His goal kicking which was usually excellent has fallen away. I still reckon he can be a decent third tall but this season so far has been a total waste after a promising end to last year.

We don't know what to do with Coops.

He's best up forward but we are too tall with King, Members, Hammer.

He's been tried down back but our AFL team is stacked and our VFL team has Keeler and Schoey.

He's been tried as a winger in the Roo/Wood style but it hasn't clicked.

A good swing man but perhaps we won't see the best of him til late in his career ala Wood.

Lyon has Sharman in firmly what I call "the Siposs zone", named after the player Scott Watters couldn't keep in one position on the ground for more than five minutes. Josh Battle was there for a little while in 2020-2021 too.

Yes and no. It's not like Membrey and Hammer have been automatic selections ahead of Sharman. Sharman got a fair few chances earlier in the season and didn't capitalise, so now he needs to bide his time.

Tony Lockett had goals on the board too, how many flags did we win with big Plugger?

Also the Hawks seem to be playing really well up forward, can you identify their key forwards?
Ha ... talk about cherry picking

Let's pick one side who have recently beaten 4 sides outside the 8 .... sitting 11th, 13th 14th 15th

Let's look at the forward lines of sides inside the 8 and just outside the 8

Swans - McDonald, Amarty, McLean
Essendon - Wright, Langford, Jones
Geelong - Hawkins, Cameron, Neale
Port - Dixon, Marshall, Finalyson
Carlton - Curnow, McKay, De Koning
Fremantle - Amiss, Treacy, Jackson
GWS - Hogan, Cadman, Riccardi
Gold Coast - King, Lukosius, Walter
Dogs - Naughton, JU-H, Darcy

Also Plugger wasn't our problem .... our problem was having a one man midfield (Harvey) and leaking a score more than Plugger could kick.

This guy obviously isn't a statistician. 77.3% is not bottom 25% of the league. Nas is on 78.33%. Bonner is 168 out of 800 players and that list includes guys that have played one or two games that skew the data, most of the best efficiency counts are guys with less that 4 games. The Saints around his level are Nas, Battle etc. His kicks are often on the move and through the corridor. He's an attacking back, not a one on one defender. Not sure why that's controversial.

Outside non contested players get marked right down on those lists. That's why guys like Hill are never in the top rungs of those rating despite playing good footy.Sinclair was injured then out of form when he returned. Not sure how Bonner made him shit for a while.

He's nowhere near the worst kick in the side let alone the league. Making up your own theories and backing it with data that doesn't prove your point just makes you look like a moron.

Obviously the 77.3% is an anomoly, I wonder if its for players with such high uncontested levels?

Surely you can see the guy (Bonner) cant DEFEND and playing a HBF role irrefutably has to be his first job. The ball has lived in our defensive zone for most of the year and I cant recall one occasion when he has gone back with the flight or laid a game stopping tackle or spoil. I am not relying on stats its the old 'eye test' and we simply cant rely on him to win a one on one contest on the rare occasions he is matched up on an opponent. If we didnt need Sinclair in the midfield I doubt he gets a game, so I guess its a moot point to some degree.

Having said the above I would much prefer to be getting games into players with a future like Hastie or Shoenmaker, if not them then Paton for me provides a hard edge we are missing in defence.

I think in 2024 we have to retire the old "go back with the flight" measurement for defensive effectiveness. I lose count every weekend how many defenders don't get in the way of a lead they are one metre away from, let alone running back with the flight. The game has moved on, for better or worse.

The ability to lock down and do purely defensive actions (like spoil and keep his direct opponent away from the ball) are not Bonner's strong suits as a backman, and as such, he remains a possible out for an extra midfielder (with Sinclair going back).

Paton is a solid option, but he's more no-nonsense and defensive action-first rather than hard edge IMO.

I would include Ross because he defends between backline to wing which allows our ball carriers from half back to be offensive.
If Crouch comes in I would expect Sinclair to return to half back.
If King plays then maybe Bonner is omitted.

Check out GWS and Carlton’s ladder position and record this time last year… they both made the prelim, ain’t over till it’s over sainters! 🤩

Quite possible but we would have to win 9 of our remaining 11 games and hope that other results go our way

Both Blues & Giants won 9 out of 11

Swans were 1 win ahead of us at the same stage and they won 7.5 out of 11 and scraped into 8th ...... so we could win 8.5 and maybe make it but 8 wins likely won't cut it

It's possible but I would say the likelihood of making Finals is very low unless we find some awesome form very quickly .... 8 out of our last 9 games at Marvel will help

It's sort of a compliment.
The coach thinks you're too good to leave out of the team even though he doesn't really know what you are.
