Don't know if it's been posted but saw today that Bonner is 5th on the list of players this season whose turnovers have resulted in the most opposition scores. Acres is number 1.

Both take the high risk kicks out of defensive 50. Everyone hates Bonner but he's playing a role. He's averaging 23.5 touches a game. That the same as Josh Daicos, Oliver, Rowell etc. 10th in the league in meters gained, same range as Naicos and Noah Anderson. 30 in rebound 50s, 77.32 disposal efficiency - Nas is on 78.33.

People are straight up looking for what he does wrong now. Nas, Hill, Battle all had turn over kicks against WC that put pressure back on the defence. Our rebound off HB is probably the only part of our game that has worked well this season.

He had one really bad game and the rest he's been a massive win for a player taken as a preseason top up. Wouldn't be surprised if he goes top 10 in the B&F and maybe even around 5th or 6th.

I don't see us winning this. Hopefully we can take some of the form from the last quarter into the game. They will trouble us all over the ground and we could well be without King and Marshall.

Mainly just want to see us take it up to them and remain competitive for four quarters. More midfield signs from Dow and Clark would be nice.
Marshall passed a concussion test after the game so he should be fine.

Bonner is not a bad player by any means, he’s average (no better or worse than most). He gets a lot of it but it’s mostly uncontested and his defending is poor. Some of his short kicks are very good but some are costly turnovers. He goes long far too often. He’s another Shane Savage.

I’d prefer a better medium defender like Paton. Stocker is another option. It’ll be interesting to see who makes way for Crouch, Butler and Stocker if they are all selected.

I don't think as much as people have made out. He had a few critical errors that stood out but that's probably because they are asking him to try to hit those long corridor kicks that when they come off look great but if you **** them up they punish the other way. Collingwood use it too, that same corridor kick. When it goes wrong it goes very wrong, when it goes right it's opened up play ahead of the ball because the zones can't set up.

I'd rather keep going brave because in today's footy you can't dick around bringing the ball up. We'll also look under way less pressure once we have a functional forward line. The defence has had to withstand a constant barrage this season.

Savage was maligned for blind bombing. Bonner generally hits a target and is trying to pick off a player out in space on the move. I'd say he's a way above average long kick. To me people are watching a side with no functional forward line and a midfield that without injured players was possibly the worst ever assembled in modern footy and pointing the finger at Bonner who has been outperforming what he would have been expected to achieve.

Ari Schoenmaker looks like the long term replacement with his boot. Stocker is a much worse kick and more of a one on one defender and Paton is more a lock down accountable small defender. That's not what Bonner is there for. He's there as the long kicking attacking defender.

Crouch would be pushing Clark, Windy or Ross out you imagine. Windy is the most like for like.

It's not just the turnovers that result in goals, I've noticed that Bonner is one of the players on our team that regularly loads up and bombs it inside 50 to no one in particular. This is where opposition intercept markers have an absolute field day.

Seb Ross is another big culprit of this (when he actually get the ball!)

I guess we'll see how he goes at the end of the year. If he gets another contract I'm guessing they rate him internally. I think he's been one of the few positives this year. Looks like another Mason Wood type of pick up where we got a best 22 player for free. I rate him.

He works hard and gets a lot of the ball, he just needs to use it better.

Bonner needs to eliminate the critical turnovers resulting in goals. I can’t see a stat for it, but if there is imagine he’d be top 5 for the league. It’s just team killing stuff, really deflating.

I doubt it. Maybe one per game on average but a couple have been really obvious. It's that kick through the corridor that is all or nothing. Battle and Nas make them too but both are perceived as good kicks so no one gets pissy about them. Hill turns over heaps but further from goal.

Our back half is playing well. We score higher than the league average from the defensive half so that part is working fine. The area we are way below league average in is scores from stoppage which is probably due to having a lack of quality mids and a non dominant tap ruck.

We actually look good off HB with our run but as people are starting to notice, our kicks inside 50 are abysmal and our centre square and stoppage work are poor.

The stats I referred to earlier -

Sheezel, Amon and Bonner are line breakers with their kicks. They are getting chopped off. Blakers is folding back and has a habit of bombing the ball out of danger. He's the surprise in that list. If a turn over happens close to goal they are coming back in with interest.
