Smit?
You doing meth?
It's funny-Boy's Own sporting hero stuff but after seeing his brief highlights clip and his clear athleticism I would love to throw him in there for five to ten minutes a quarter and see what happens just while our numbers available are so low. It won't happen as he has to learn about the team structure and all that stuff but one can dream. He has a raking left foot too.

When the bloody hell will the myth that is Josh Eyre get back on the footy field? A 200cm mobile defender! FFS can we stop drafting cripples?

McInness apparently still struggling with concussion?
If not, he’s in!

Dean. Out.
Frampton goes back.
Kreuger. In.

…. I think that’s all we are able to swing? We are genuinely rooted.

Oh, Allen in as sub. Parker goes back to playing indoor cricket.

Johnno plays relief ruck.
FRAMPTON DOES NOT GO ANYWHERE NEAR RUCK!!!!!!

F Schulz McInness Johnno
HF Bobby Freddy McCreery
C Jaicos Lippa Harrison

Let’s get one thing straight.
You won’t see Smit in the senior team for at least 2 seasons.
He ain’t freaking Paul Salmon.
….ruck is the LEAST of our concerns.
How are all those punters out there feeling that Hutchinson is at West Coast?

Of course. That's why I said it was a Boy's Own Annual storybook dream.

Dean Johnson Bytel Macrae Parker all desperately need to be dropped.

Bring in whoever's fit.
So you want to bring in fit players like DeMattia, Freddy, Allan and Ryan? Not sure that fills me with confidence either. Let's just hope that WHE and Reef are available

only assuming Wilbur is back next week. Thank goodness no new injuries we are aware of yet.

In WHE Kreuger
Out Parker Dean

Thought markov was poor so in the absence of anybody else coming in, it’s him or macrae to be sub.

Didn’t think Dean was that terrible ( often mismatched against a 200 cm opponent) but frampton was ineffective as a ruck forward and Freddy can play that role, so back to defence for frampton and out goes Dean.

I don't rate Melbourne that highly so expecting a big win. Although I said that last year and was disappointed. Then I did rate them and they Kournikovered in finals.

Kreugs has to play - once the ball is on the ground our smalls will go to work and should have a field day.

Let's select a sub that can actually add some value and impact. Maybe Noble being the sub might be good for him and us. I don't think Noble plays well against Melbourne? Or does he?

I don’t understand why we keep messing with our only strength at the moment - OUR DEFENCE!!!

Frampton, Howe, Moore, Markov, Noble, IQ & Maynard. The defenders who carried us through from around 4 onwards.

Build the team around the defenders.

I don’t care if we lose the ruck contests for 20 minutes. We can setup to lose the hitout. AJ should have taken some ruck contests.

Out: Dean, Bytel, AJ & Parker
In: Reef, WHE, Kreuger & Ed

Ed the sub.

No he’s too slow back there.

That's why they should try him forward. Instead of playing Markov as a forward, put Sidebottom inside F50, and let a Markov play his natural role.
I'm a little confused as to what we're trying to do with Sidebottom. If the coaches think he can't play anywhere else on the ground, then l wouldn't be playing him. It looks to me HB just doesn't suit him.
He's a brilliant player, fantastic player for our club, will be a club legend, but to me he looks frustrated at the role he's expected to play. It doesn't suit his natural instincts as an attacking footballer.

If Allan was dropped from a team after four forced changes, he ain’t coming back for a while.

I have to agree. I'm surprised there haven't been more comments on the umpiring. The number of frees and 50's given for incidents in which nobody was in any way impeded or held up is appalling. I said to my son tonight, imagine trying to explain these ridiculous rules to a visitor from overseas.

Oh why did that umpire make the man move 50 metres closer to the goal?

The man on the mark moved.

I beg your pardon?

You must stand like a statue on the mark until the ump says you can move and if you take one step before then or move sideways you will be penalized 50 metres.

But the man was nowhere near the kicker. He did not interfere with him in any way.

That's right.

But.....oh don't worry.

The other ones which make my head explode are the arm around the forward's tummy free and the free when a player with the ball head butts the soft belly of his opponent and gets a free for high contact as happened to Bobby Hill who raised both arms in the air and stood still as the Dog's player ducked and then literally shoved his head into Bobby's tummy. This earned him a shot on goal.

That free to Lobb against Moore for "holding" was another shocker. It's so simple. If a defender impedes the forward and prevents him from moving toward the ball that should be a free kick for holding. If the defender's arm momentarily rests on the forward's chest as he balances himself to punch the pill it must be "play on!" Lobb was not prevented from contesting the ball in any way. It has become netball- the defender cannot wrestle in a test of strength and he cannot chop the arms of his opponent. Why they changed that rule I don't know. Lockett, Ablett and Dunstall had no problem marking the pill when chopping arms was legal. It was simply another test of strength. Weaker players could not clunk the pill when a defender's arm swung across them. The powerful forwards had no trouble.

All of these rules were brought in to increase the scoring and no such thing has happened.

The Moore free was 100% there.
The 50 meter penalty against our player (can't remember who it was) for moving back after the 'stand' call made was there.
Steele's 50 metre penalty for running back before a 'stand' call was made was note (as the umpire hadn't called 'stand').
Josh Daicos stomach punching a player resulting in a goal was there (undisciplined).

The umpires didn't really lose it for us last night.

In games like last night you realise the value of Cox, he is a big target and despite what people think, quite a competitive tall option down the line. I'm not sure I even saw Frampton compete for a long high ball, so piss him off back to the backing and bring in Kruger.

AJ has just lost all confidence.

It's difficult this week - several who are worthy of missing, but we're hardly overflowing with fit players waiting to step in.

Melbourne are a small forward line, with Petty and Van Rooyen/Turner (JVR is currently in protocols) their only talls. Obviously the changes are fairly dependent on who gets up from injuries.

OUT: Dean (who I'm much less down on than others) - Parker - Johnson
IN: Hoskin-Elliott - Jiath - Kreuger

FB: Maynard - Frampton - Quaynor
HB: Noble - Moore - Sidebottom
C: J. Daicos - Crisp - Lipinski
HF: Schultz - Kreuger - Hoskin-Elliott
FF
: Harrison - Howe - Hill
FOLL: Cameron - N. Daicos - McCreery
INT: Jiath - Markov - Sullivan - Macrae
SUB: Bytel

Kreuger comes in to pinch-hit in the ruck and provide a marking contest up forward. Howe moves up forward, to give us a secondary marking option (I'm assuming McInnes doesn't get up) and because I don't think we need him down back. WHE comes in as the third marking option, and can step into the 2nd tall role if Howe has to go back. Jiath comes in for debut - think Melbourne is a good team for him to debut on in front of a huge crowd, and he was an emergency. Bytel/Markov goes to the sub.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Putting Markov forward and Sidey back was a weird choice.

As much as I liked the novelty of seeing Markov play forward, he is not a forward.

I didn’t think he played the forward role too bad. Players like Frampton and Johnson had a much worse game than him as a key forward. Couple of score involvements, an inside 50 as a key forward, forward pressure and a goal of course. Multiple times he was also an option going inside 50 just to be ignored.

However, he is not a forward. And at some stages he did look a little lost. Get him back to half back where he’s played all his career and has played very well for us. Give him the option to run, and make him feel comfortable. Put someone like Sidebottom up forward possibly, not Markov.

However with only reef and WHE coming back next week as it looks like currently, Markov might need to stay forward as we have no players.

A reminder about the Dees.

They also have a non functioning forward line. Van Rooyen injured, Fritsch can be hit of miss if the hair product hasn’t gone to his brain, Petty who’s had a shocker of a season. They’re relying a lot on Trac to kick goals.

The midfield can be hot or cold. They’ve all been up and down this year

And the defence has no Lever and it’s basically May and a few fringe players (other than Salem and Bowey maybe) Tomlinson has been ok.

Again I don’t think we’ll be smashed like some think. I think we’ll definitely put up a gallant fight like last night. Remember the Dees lost to the Eagles by 5 goals not even two weeks ago. Hoskin and Reef back surely helps a little

Don’t be a whiner. The “stand” rule was brought in to promote fast ball movement. It does that
