Everyone keeps talking about Robinson being a wrecking ball etc... Which he is...

But in the last two games he's been much more.
- He's had good hands below the knees
- his disposals have been damaging
- he's been our major hardball winner
- he's displayed huge on field leadership
- he owned Fyfe for much of the game

His game has gone to a new level. Let's hope this is a permanent move.... I know he wasn't this good at Carlton otherwise they would of cried much harder than they did when we got him free.

he's definetly been great, makes me view the Docherty trade as Robinson and Robertson for him, a fair trade now

We were behind the goals Freo kicked to in the last quarter. It was obvious we ended up too tall in defence. Clarke and Andrews switched over many times with one taking the small (Walters usually, sometimes Ballantyne), but I think Rich seemed to be taking whichever small was a bit further upfield. Harwood would have helped.

Also, we were obviously trying to stem run, with the plan to push up the line and create contests. The thing was we were doing it well, with about six throw ins to close out the first half taking the ball the length of the ground with Leuey kicking a clutch goal from the pocket. But our young legs and fierce tackling couldn't last, and once the last quarter started we weren't able to force the Dockers back. Their 50 entries went deeper than they did in the first 3 quarters, and crumbing goals were the result.

After sitting through the cold wet disappointment of last season's 1 point first half, today was an amazing improvement. We didn't quite have the class when it mattered, but we beat the Dockers in terms of effort and commitment, and with a bit of luck could have stolen it.

Totally worth the wet arse and the long pungent ride home on a chock full train. Our day is coming, maybe not as soon as we all want, but it's coming.

Go Lions.

Solid game from our boys. Luey was great, maybe we try Martin forward when he gets back, who knows it could work.

Do we still want to trade him?

Did something happen to Mitch Robinson - a knee injury? I heard he hobbled off the ground? and if so how bad?

Nice post.good to hear.
Thanks for that.....hope you don't get a cold out of it.

So with the unrelieved expectation of utter destruction at the hands of the purple horde I guess we can pencil this one in for our upset win of the season? <- from the preview thread

So no to that although at 3/4 time it was not beyond the bounds of possibility!

Something for everyone today!

- for those hungering for the taste of freshly cooked draft picks served on wooden spoons ... we lost the game

- for those exulting in the spirit of a young team and seeking effort and determination and desire to win ... we were well in it and even the commentators were talking about this being the kind of game you can build a future on

- for those cringing at the thought of yet another Lion going down ... apparently no injuries to be concerned about

- for those seeking improvement over time ... we definitely beat our 1 point first half from last time

- for those who believe the footy gods have a certain disdain for us ... there cometh the rain

- for those who want Leuie to stay or at the very least have a decent trade value ... two weeks in a row he has stood up and been counted

- for those who feel that Aish is worthy of their angst and disdain ... they were not disappointed

- for those who just love their Lions and don't really care about all of that ... the got a red hot game (without Brion in the line up) and could come away proud of their boy's efforts

Conversely not sure how much the Leppa haters would have got out of the game but I am sure there would be something if you look for it (I wasn't) ... so maybe not something for *everyone*

Nah they were satisfied - for them, we lost the fourth quarter convincingly.

A bit of a numpty question. How does the poll for best players calculate the percentages? At the moment, Beams is on 94% and Robinson is on 80%. Does that mean 6% of people didn't have Beams in their best and 20% didn't have Robinson?

It is interesting because under the old "votes" system this board would use, it was pretty regular to have the same two or three players feature in everyone's votes. Just wonder if the anonymity of this system is leading to a wider divergence of opinions.

It could also be that 6% of people meant to vote for Beams and clicked the wrong button. Rohan Bewick did get a vote, after all! :p

We had about 120 tackles, that would be an all time record for us, if not very close to it. Great effort

The two teams combined for the second most tackles in an AFL game apparently -234. I think four Lions were in the top ten tacklers for the round. Something to work with.

Yes.

Probably. I doubt many people view the results before voting, so don't get the reinforcement of the old system of scrolling through page after page of "5. Beams. 4. Martin." Also the new set-up that lists all player names probably prompts people to think more about what, for example, Beasley might have done during the match so gets him a vote because he surpassed expectations (kudos Groo2).

The Bewick vote was a Freo supporter though, so take that one with a grain (or more) of salt. :p Looking at who he voted for (Bewick, Beasley, Paparone, Staker, Green), I'm guessing he was trying to be "funny".

Just percentage of people who voted, innit?
Interestingly, I just counted 424 votes, which means not all who voted, selected 5. But of the 424, 81 voted for Beams. 93.1 % means 87 people have voted, with 9 of them voting for 4 players (with some room for a variety of combos, maybe 1 voted for 3 and another voted for 5 or something).

I noted in his interview that Leppa said they would be trialing a recovery and review method with the young lads of avoiding the red-eye and bringing the boys back today. Interesting to see if that mitigates some of the fatigue induced by the cross-continental journey.

Good idea.the red-eye is brutal .

Who are these 6% of people who didn't vote Beams in the best? - step forward now, and prepare to have your BF membership revoked.

BTW - small point, Fyfe got 2 votes in the HUN!? really?

I joked during the coverage he would get the 3 brownlows, well was supposed to be a joke. It's rubbish.
