Adelaide have more winnable games. When I did the ladder predictor we go under them with them finishing half a game above us.

Yes the Sqiggle Ladder Predictor has us beating Essendon but losing to the Crows and so has us in 15th.

Though if we win that we go up 2 places to 13th as we go above Hawks and Crows.

With Aschcroft sliding in as a match....that would probably take Jagger out of our reach.

Theres no way we finish above Hawthorn. Adelaide will either trade out or take Draper. Jagga is about 70% chance to land with us atm

That was it...so Max...the fans see your laziness...the coach is now talking about it in public.

Time to pull the finger out Max.

The frustration with King was evident to see in the last 10 minutes.

He flew for marks twice. Once (in front) he almost held it and was unlucky. The second he was behind was should have held it. Close, but not good enough. If he holds them both then he has 2 shots at goal.

He is really close to holding those marks and kicking an extra 2-3 goals a week. But he’s been close for a while.

I sense King doesn’t have the necessary self-belief and needs a patch where he grabs those. Then it might start to click. He is capable of winning games like last night.

Liked some of the positional moves last night . Henry into the middle clearly. Hammer to full back … although pretty tough on him to go back mid match against Joe . Maybe needs a few weeks in the vfl at fullback. Other moves i like to see is NWM into middle when his back and try Ross as a defensive small like Heppell has done for the bombers. Keep Sincs at halfback.

Lots to take out of the game.

1. We were always chasing the game, which somehow brought out our scoring ability. This seems to be a consistent pattern such as Geelong and GWS. Need to find a way to have that urgency when we aren't 5+ goals down.

2. I think Caminiti has lots of potential as a full back even when he was hobbling. Thought he did a much better job on Daniher than Cordy did. I would be playing him there for the rest of the season, especially with Howard out.

3. The dual ruck combination of Campbell and Marshall worked well. Marshall has improved significantly since playing with Ryder and still had significant influence despite us having a second ruck. He can almost play the Riewoldt CHF to wing role. I would persist with this for the rest of the season and look at a good tap ruckman replacement for Campbell next year.

4. Thought the defence was way too oversized. How we didn't bring in Paton is beyond me. It just felt unbalanced. Stocker back will help this.

5. Arie. Just Arie. He is already at home at AFL level, and my god his kicking is unbelievable. Looked like Wilkie v2. Should not miss another game this season.

6. We won lots of clearances, but they weren't particularly clean (compare them to Brisbane's when they spread from stoppage). Most were just hack kicks forward - but what frustrates me more than anything is our players ahead of the contest don't play in front. We need to be smarter and know that. I think we need to really think about our midfield pace, I'm not sure we can carry Steele, Ross and Clark into the same midfield next season. Needs more Henry, Owens, Dow, Windy. The former get caught on the spread way too easily.

7. We need to get rid of the momentum killing players. Bonner and Ross were the main culprits, but I'd like to also put Steele and Hill on notice. I thought they both had some lazy kicking efforts which caused turnovers.

8. Henry came into the game late and looked good, but I'd love to see some more consistency. He managed 30 touches three times last year - we should be studying those games intently to see what was different.

9. I'm banning kicks from a mark/free/with space deep inside 50 to a contest. If we have the time to think about it, should always be a chip to 30-50m out or to space in the pockets. We saw Higgins and Owens nailing 50m kicks and should back ourselves in more.

10. Butler improved late but was rubbish for the first half. Nabbing Stengle would be huge to increase our small forward depth and put some pressure on Higgins and Butler to consistently perform.

Gonna be tough to beat Rnd 2 against the pies for best game of the year for me. Big crowd, big win against a big opponent.

Easy to forget we started the year alright, took it to Geelong in Geelong, beat the premiers on their deck, and then choked to Essendon by 4 points after being in control of the game, scraped over the line against the tigers and then lost by a point to the giants.

Very competitive, with a mix of good and bad (mostly middling) performances with the Collingwood game being the best. Next week we got drubbed with the dogs, plus a heap of injuries and the rest of the season is an ECO blur.

We got back to an attacking style last night (after a spray and uncompetitive first qtr mind you) - and it was almost the perfect game in the sense that we maintain low ladder position whilst going for the win, and played the kids.

A lot of us don’t want to hear it, but we need patience with the list and game plan - like it or not, it takes time (and a dash of luck) to develop them and there’s no easy way around it (even with handouts).

Collingwood was a better game for atmosphere, meaning and all of that but the actual game style was not as good IMO. This was Lyon going attack mode and it was a much more open attractive style than our usual dour set up.

I think that was a good looking game apart from the leaking goals, especially in red time. 5 minutes of concentration at the end of quarters and that's getting close to a win. I'd actually forgotten that we could even play that way.

Got to fix those first quarters. I think Lyon is setting up too defensively from the first bounce, and opposition coaches are aware of this and go full on attack early against us- pretty obvious last night. Then we resort to catch up footy.

Windhager stood about 5m over the mark. Pretty blatant stuff up, that’s pretty much always given 50.

Usually they move you back. Collingwood do it every game. Crimp and then wait to get sent back to kill time to set up ahead of the ball.

For me king's biggest issue is that he can't keep his feet, nearly every mark he goes for he ends up on the deck.

You think West Coast take Jagga? I have them taking Trainor to replace McGovern

O'Sullivan and Smillie are the two best players in the draft so you'd expect them to take who ever is left of those.

Does anyone know where you can find the “expected score”?

I’ve heard it before with media post game, it’s interesting as looks at probability of getting/missing shots I assume?

Would be interested to see it on last night. Brisbane seemed to pluck more than a few tin ass goals.

Our best midfielder Hunter Clark played just over a half of footy and shit trucks like Seb Ross play 80% tog for 8 disposals

I'm happy to cop a down year and get a good pick, but next year we need to look at how we start the season. We can't afford to be out of it half way through the year.

My takeaways from last night
  • Clark always tries to keep the ball moving forward, he always seems to find that little bit of extra space and can beat a tackle
  • Henry in the middle is electric, real x-factor
  • Higgins set shots were elite this game
  • Sincs looked like he was in AA form
  • The young players made an impact
  • Marshall is going to win our best and fairest
