Ultimately, I'm worried that Essendon will be timing runs past packs on the wing in the same manner Adelaide were. We've also seen how well they can clog up movement around said packs. When we don't have movement, our possession becomes rather impotent.

Essendon are better at disposing the ball and given the lack of continuity in our backline (especially for this game) I don't see us being able to cover the quick entries effectively.

We have to be prepared to play-on anytime the ball gets towards centre/half-forward. Wilkes is the wild card and how we deliver to him will make all the difference. Should Reiwoldt and Koschitzke be forced to play up the ground (as I believe to be the case) and Wilkes isn't relatively free in space, we'll need to be bombing from 50 all night. I don't see Milne having a blinder and for other shorties to have an effect, the ball needs to be moving fast in an unpredictable manner.

Call this a negative stance if that way inclined, I really don't care. Have seen enough sport played in my lifetime, particularly the past drubbings, to not keep the red glasses on any longer than necessary. Any notion that I'm not a '100% supporter' can politely be crammed up the thought-owner's slammer.

I want us to win this game, however when I view it objectively it seems a highly unlikely outcome.

That was a couple of years ago, pretty sure it was Gamble.

Was Tom Lynch in his debut game. Kid played down back all year in VFL and Rossy decides he'd make a better forward in AFL.

I don't have Lynch playing last year v Bombers, he was in 2010...later in the season

Cos we don't really have a general AFL talk topic.

As much as Carlton winning hinders us, **** Collingwood!

It kinda doesn't, we just need to match their wins as we have a superior percentage and we'll always be ahead of them. In the long run it's far better for us if the top echelon of the 8 stumble and bring themselves closer to us as it widens the field we have to play with.

A few bloggers mentioned their disappointment about BJ last week and the hard tag he got from Sam Wright and his now penalized reaction.

Who are the short fuses in the Bombers line-up tonight?

Based on history they seem to be Heath Hocking, David Hille, Patrick Ryder, Michael Hurley etc....
They all seem to possess some weakness and lose focus during a game. I hope they all just play the ball tonight and not the man.

Agree with this. Some of the negativity on this thread is bizarre and not all that logical.

Look, no Saints fan I know is ever confident about playing Essendon. I'm no different. But this season is so even and hard to predict. We are in a big group of teams hovering around the eight, all of whom have shown they can knock off those above them from time-to-time. Saturday night at the dome, a new coach with (hopefully) a better plan to knock these blokes off than the last one, and a team that has shown it is competitive all year against every team, why wouldn't we as supporters go in to this game thinking we are a chance?

Thumping coming NarklesHelmet.

Time to change the game plan. If winning involves poster boys getting hurt, then so be it!

I think Watters has a longer term game play than some credit. He is looking at the club overall and we now have 3 development coaches from 1, we have a good elite sports coach, Laidley is a good addition. He is rotating 'some' younger players but not conceding the year and going 'all youth'. I think it is a good long term balance.

I think this game may be closer than many people think. I'm tipping Saints by 7 on 07.07. It's all in the numbers :)

Would it be safe to assume if a player (Newnes) was at driving range at 2.10pm on Game Day that they wont be late inclusion?

Well it's quite obvious if Newnes is playing golf. And Milera was a terrible late replacement last week. Leaves only one choice. Personally, I think it will be well (Mark) worth it!

...

I don't quite follow? While I'd like to see Markworth play, and Scotty has a tendency to bring in emergencies, it still doesn't gaurentee Markworth will play.

A2R, who would drop out if Markworth does play?

Almost surprised Saints made no late change this week.....

Did they mention where this was taken? Because I swear that's my local range (live on the Peninsula)...

Anyway, good luck for tonight guys. Hopefully no injuries.

it looks like MGA
