Agree that I think they will want to bed J Henry in the backline. It is great that he can pinch hit but for us to go on a run he needs to be back at his best with SDK in the backline. He has started to look his old self so leave him there.

Issue then is what to do with Sav? They love him and he has done everything asked…but I am not convinced he make the backline better…

I don’t know what they will do

Wasn't sure where to put this but it seemed relevant to the current discussion (stole from the Port board) mods feel free to move if needed.

"Yeah, because Lever (2.9 intercept marks per game) and May (2.5 intercept marks per game) seem to have a problem going for the same ball.

McKay - 3.7 intercept marks per game
Ratugolea - 3.3 intercept marks per game

Ratugolea - 6.5 intercept possessions per game
McKay - 6.3 intercept possessions per game

McKay - 1.5 rebound 50s per game
Ratugolea - 2.7 rebound 50s per game

And here's the big one:

McKay - 2.1 defensive 1v1 per game @ 38.1% loss rate
Ratugloea - 3 defensive 1v1 per game @ 27.8% loss rate"

The only thing i will take issue with - re the preview/opening post is quote " The much maligned Rhys Stanley "

No that nonsense stopped 3-4 years ago - it should read - The much Appreciated - much required - much needed - Premiership Geelong Ruckman Rhys Stanley

As for the game - another must win - it would be great to win - get a bit of momentum - and with Nth Melb to follow then we could be 9-7 and in a good striking position

Re changes - in the review of the Melb game - i think it was Cursed Cat - he made a very astute comment/observation - re I Smith - he said his tackling efforts were pathetic - and i agree spot on - Smith has been a tremendous player - got alot of credits in the bank - however this is a must win game - you need blokes who are prepared to tackle - be fierce - do all the 1% stuff - and Smith is not prepared to do that at the moment - so i wouldnt play him in this vital game

In Dangerfield and Esava

Out Cameron and Smith

You could swap Bowes and O Henry re the sub - but the match commitee will look at the Swans side for that possibility
Smith to me looked a bit physically or mentally fatigued. That's where "lazy" or "sloppy" efforts come in. He's one player that really hasn't been rested since we picked him up.

But anyway he's also someone that bounces back and his inclusion, like Duncan, frees up Holmes for midfield bursts. I expect we need Smith for one more week and then can offer him a rest Vs NM or Essendon.

Heads up tickets for Brisbane and Geelong at the Gabba rd 19 now on sale get in early if want to attend that one.
Wow already not much left :/. Would just like to add how consistently shite/useless the Interstate Membership offering is as a Brisbane based fan :)

It's an interesting one as far as Sav Vs SDK too. SDK just barely scrapes contested defensive 1v1 (26.7% Vs 27.3%) but then Sav averages 4x as many contested marks and almost 3x as many intercept marks per game, 50% more rebound 50s, 50% more intercept possessions and 30% more effective disposals.

It's not exactly apples for apples though because SDK has more often had two other talls with him. But that's also another reason it's silly to say we "look better without Sav". He mostly played when both SDK and J.Henry were missing or one played but elsewhere.

If swans are rolling with 3 talls again we can play all of SDK, Sav and Henry back to accommodate. Kolo takes Heeney. Stewart the floater

Ive played 1st grade nothing - but i have got a little bit of free advice for Kolodjashnij- who i think against Melb played one of the worst games ever by any AFL Player on record

And that comes courtesy of Justin Langer - former Aust Cricket coach and opening batsmen

Langer said just recently - when he was still playing - opening the batting for Aust - he was fortunate enough to meet Sir Viv Richards - and thus obviously asked him for a few tips re batting

And Langer said Richards number 1 tip to him - and it was pretty simple and basic - was - watch that ball like a hawk

And thats what Kolo ought to do - then he might not fumble it - overrun it - drop his marks - or totally miss the ball when he is trying to punch it away

Sorry but as bad as a few of his mistakes were, a defender getting 12 disposals and having just 2 goals kicked on him (9 disposals) by an AA-level forward (Fritz) is not even close to the worst game ever. 2 contested marks, 7 intercepts, 6 contested possessions and 1 turnover.

Yes he got caught twice, with one of them a lucky escape. Yes he misread the ball a few times. But there have been defenders who've essentially not touched the footy and had 8 kicked on them. So give me a break. His second half got better as it went on besides one ill directed kick.

Sav will definitely play if fit, and if he plays they will shift Henry or SDK forward to accommodate him, which I think is a mistake.

They could just drop kolo instead which would be smarter. But sadly i agree.

Expect we drop this, about the best side Swans will run out with all season and qe always seem to struggle at the ground let slone without Jez and Danger.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jake stays
in Geelong this week anyway - he spent a good half of the game last week playing sore, so could be an easy choice to give him the managed treatment this week

Savs had better form overall than SDK this season tbh imo. Sav's been good, SDK's had some down games. I would still stick with SDK out of the two though if forced as the gap hasn't been that great and SDK's best is better than Savs.

We don't struggle there any more or less than anywhere else tbh.

'22 - Disappointing, but we were a farcry from what we would eventually become.

'21 - Got out to a 5 goal lead and led pretty much all night. Genuinely should have won that game.

'20* - Dominated the top 2 Lions on a neutral ground.

'19 - Beat them comfortably.

'18 - Beat them in a tight encounter, scoreboard suggests we should have won by more.

'14 - Horror loss, probably our worse this century.

'13 - Beat them comfortably.

'12 - Lost in a tight one.

'11 - Beat them comfortably

Etc etc

Our recent bullying of them is far more relevant IMO.

Sydney fans must be scared, got a weird laugh react from a Sydney nuffy on a post I made in the post match thread after we embarrassed them by 93 points.

In that case, hope we do them by 93 again ;)
Sydney fans don't like us, which I find amusing to be honest.

They're the ones who didn't show up...I'd be holding the grudge against my own players if anything if I were them.

Then again, I'm the one expecting footy fans to be rational...so maybe I'm the idiot here.

😊

On the game, no reason this shouldn't be another win. Rhys back in is huge, and we don't lose a lot of games with him and Blicavs in the same side.

Hopefully Danger gets up, Scott certainly reckons he will....but if not we'll probably just bring in Sav and shift J Henry forward.

Not what I'd personally do, but can understand the premise.

We've got this team covered mentally as much as physically. If we can start well, they'll just roll over once again like all soft sides do.

Cats by 6 goals.

One can only hope and pray for this, I’m really keen to see how Esava and Dekoning can play together. Can’t have Esava and Kolo in the same backline.

Hmm if everyone gets gets to choose 1 of the 3 to not play which would it be?

It seems like most only want 2 of SDK-Sav-Kolo playing at the same time and if that is the case name the 2 you would play and name the one you will trade as no way any of those 3 stick around as backup. Which is exactly what only picking 2 will do.

Play SDK and Kolo guarantees Sav will be asked to be traded.
I can't see SDK not looking at options if we tell him sorry you are now back up to Sav and Kolo. (least likely option people would pick)
As above i don't think Kolo will stay around in the VFL whilst we play Sav and SDK leaving him purely as backup.

Hyperbole bullshit as i have seen by far worse games by Kolo himself and others

Just look at last years GF and half of Sydney's team played a much worse game compared to Kolo vs Melb
