We have no idea who we would have drafted with those picks, but I'd have rather have had a crack at those picks being on the list + Burton, as opposed to Wingard who averages 13-14 games a season at us, plays a handful of good ones a year and will likely never play in a winning finals match at Hawthorn.

In saying that a lot of it from my end is hindsight in this regard, I did think Wingard was going to be a much better player for us than he has been.
Have a look at that draft. Tell me who we could have drafted that would have us in a better position? We have no need for Burton whatsoever. Basically, you can't say exactly how we'd have been better off without the trade but you can apparently say definitively that it was bad?

And saying he'll never play in a winning final is ridiculous. If we make finals in the next few years, there's a chance that he's the one winning it for us.

Let's just say that there are plenty on this board who weren't fans of trading for Wingard and still wouldn't do it if we had our time over.

At this point we need to trade him for something decent or hope he returns to All Australian form. He's sat in the middle of those two outcomes since he arrived.
Those "plenty of people" are exactly who I'm arguing with. They don't look at the trade exactly and can't argue how we'd be better off. Our issues are in the midfield. Wingard is our classiest mid. Yes, the injuries are frustrating, but we need more class in the midfield, not less. Trading him isn't the best idea.

Will you delete your own post for continuing the discussion and wanting the last word on it?

No, I have far stronger and more nuanced opinions on this trade that I won't get into because it's a topic that is notoriously deleted on here. Plus this isn't the thread for it even if was a discussion we were free to have.

slim pickings in that draft so you're right on that. However I'd love someone like a 21 year old James Jordan running through our midfield.

interesting team - one I’m keen to watch. Seems we’ve pivoted back to youth after a period of playing slightly more senior squads (albeit injury is a factor but shiels/howe/Hartigan not in 22).

Keen to see how Ward goes after a break, whether DGB and Finn have improved from stints at BH and how Morris goes with a proper shot on a hbf. Also CJ named on a wing - will he play there? With BB in, kosi likely plays more as a 3rd tall - which I think he’s better suited to.

The outs in Gunston, day, bramble, worpel werent contributing a heap so more a shuffling of deck chairs. Looks a bit top heavy with BB/Lewis up forward and we’ve struggled with defensive pressure. Adelaide is a bit weak in kpd so we’re a chance.

Still surprised we’re favourites given have won 1 in last 10 and play poorly at marvel. If we can’t get a handy lead in first quarter crows are the workmen like team that should grind out a win.

Oh sweet, the same posters are still throwing around their hindsight thoughts on the Wingard trade.

That never gets old at all.

North are currently running a ‘vigorous rebuild’ like many prescribed for us

It seems the more practical approach by hawks and crows is better. All three clubs never knowingly went a hard rebuild ever up till a couple of years ago

massive game for me personally
was on the pi5s with a good mate before the season started & he stated that the Hawks would be bottom 4. I disagreed & said nope we are better than that so we put a Grange on it!
I am calling this the Grange Grand Final :)

Oh dear you are in trouble. Start saving.

We won that trade hands down. Burton and his ego are no longer at the club. That's the win right there. Anything we get out of Wingard is an absolute bonus.

Lewis is going to have to kick 6 today to get his average back up there. With McEvoy forward there is every chance.

Shiels and Hartigan the emergencies not playing for BHH.
Thought Shiels would have to be.

Played almost the entire game last week, so we've essentially pushed his time as sub out by a week.

I would like to see MacDonald thrown into the midfield for the rest of the year, even start games on the wing. Everytime he has the ball he always seems to have time and space. If he can carry those traits playing as a midfielder, then who knows how good he could potentially be.

Before this game can we please also discuss
  • our poor , thin midfield
  • Mitchell and JOM trades

Thanks in advance

Another reason to despise Marvel Stadium, just in case there weren't enough already, if I am buying a general ticket to this weekend's game I can pick my own seats (I want aisle seats as I will possibly be taking the kiddo). If I am getting a member reserved seat I can't do this. The club have no access to Ticketmaster systems so can't help either.

Call Ticketmaster's number - they say they operate purely online and to go to your account online for help. Go to the help section on My Account - it has zero way of contacting anyone.

I hate that ******* stadium so very much.

The best method to contact ticketmaster is via Twitter. Give them a DM and they will follow up promptly.

Agree, not a fan of game in Marvel Stadium, but I will come anyway 😬.

I ended up gaming the system by getting my membership tickets but also some junior tickets where I want to be sitting aisle-wise. If my member tickets aren’t located where I want I’ll just use the junior seats once in the ground with my member tickets. The junior tickets only cost $9 and I used credit card rewards to claim them so they didn’t cost me a cent. I mean I shouldn’t have to get this creative but this is the kind of fun modern systems Marvel/Ticketmaster force you into.

Whether you play the game or not, SC scores are the best statistical measurement of performance there is.

They’re really not - but if you want to think that then go nuts. It’s a good way of averaging out stats into one simple metric - but that still doesn’t account for intangibles or measure a player’s overall impact on the game or the work they’ve done off the ball. If it’s also your only argument on a player’s form - then it’s a shit argument.

SuperCoach would have ranked Cyril Rioli as the 9th best player on the field in the 2015 grand final and Brian Lake as the 9th best player on the day in 2013. Personally I think the voters on the day using their eyes did a much better job.
