IMO Steele sooked it up last year when it all went pear shape

All well good to cut deep but who are we replacing them with ?

so next years excuse will be we cut deep and the players are getting use to playing with each other, year of learning to play together
Another year of exploration. Ross a big fan of Dora the Explorer

Absolutely spot on! This where we are at, hopefully where we are going and where we need to get to!

I don't recall Ross ever talking about us making finals even when we got off to that great start to the season and we were sitting on top of the ladder.

I think he has always been realistic about where we are at but that being said I am still disappointed with how badly we have dropped off since then.

I agree with a lot of the other stuff you have said though especially Robert Harvey being our forwards coach, we clearly need to make a change there.

Like I have said before appointing Robert Harvey as our forwards coach makes about as much sense as appointing Nick Riewoldt as our midfield coach.
Our problem as seen today is our midfield - they really are what sets up play and today they failed again.

Agreed. I just don't see how cutting deep into the list actually improves us next year. It actually sends us backwards for a couple of years.
And God help us if we give away multiple 1st and 2nd round picks for 1 or 2 players.

I think Harvs and Lenny have given us nothing as midfield and forward coaches- we have gone backwards. Lyon should make a big call and move them on. Sad that our captain is almost invisible, and our best player in Sinclair is falling away and is playing like a millionaire. Not sure if bringing Hayes in will solve anything- he is not a midfielder. Our midfield look like country footy players trotting along while the Suns midfield just blew them off the ground with pace. If we though Lyon's strength was a defensive coach, then that has been shot out of the water- one of the worse defensive efforts I have seen for quite a few years.

So are you saying that Lenny Hayes should be sacked as our midfield coach too?

I don't think Lenny could do much to improve our current midfield though unless he put on the boots again and got back out there himself.

Lyon has been weak at selection for ages.

Trying to just make the 8.

Year of exploration .... bulls*t
He's played the kids consistently and to go back to the leaked training video "l can't take this group anywhere"

There was no leadership, education or standards for a generation and it's likely most of the over 22's might have to go.

It's nice that the club can finally acknowledge that Sharman is a good AFL footballer who you can trust to kick it between the 2 sticks and generally hit up a teammate when he's in possession.
I'm not too down about this year to be honest. The only thing that will really set me off is if we don't gut the list at the end of the year.

The modern game is built around systems, and right now, our midfield is void of any kind of system of play defensively and offensively. Not sure what Lenny is contributing, but it is broken.

If Sharman is considered part of the future then I'd say we are stuffed. Average footballer, GC gave him way too much latitude.

You can't cut deep until you have good players you replace the players you cut and they are hard to get.
Today was a massive let down , our more experienced players were no where to be seen - these games are the games you expect to win - seems we have gone backwards - Steele playing shocking , Gresham having his best year last year has gone backwards , Hill is still about the same / average - has Ross rocked the boat and upset the moddy coddled players from the Richo - Ratten era.

Todays players are soft compared to the tongue lashings coaches gave them in the past - hopefully Ross will snap them out of it - time to stop with these pride games and all the other feel good s/it and concentrate in winning the football.

Fully expect Ross will make a few players want out and really this might be the best way to get the players he wants.
If they are not putting in the effort he wants he will let them know.

What have we found out about the list that we didn't know last year?

What did we need Ross to show us that we didn't see? It's pretty obvious to me. We have a decent list but not great. We could maybe win a final but need more talent to push into the top four and really challenge.
We have a half baked list even when we're fully fit but with the current injuries you'd have to say we're bottom half of the ladder no matter who is coaching.

It's vintage PR from Ross to buy himself as much time as possible with the exploration schtick, but we have looked far better in some games this year than we have for years, even with an ordinary side on the park.

We're about where we should be 8 - 12, pending injuries and draw.

Fast, layed some great tackles and applied pressure. Too early to judge at the level.
Thought he was very good, speed is incredible and some good chase down tackles. Play him the rest of the way.

That’s enough for me.

Having seen how Owens and Nas have exploded onto the scene this year I’m fully committed to our youth.

Windy looks to have gotten the ball a heap which is great too, 2021 draft class looking very promising.

And with the 2022 draft class in Phillipou, Keeler, Van Es, Gus, Hotton, hopefully not too far behind them.

Ross wants more youth.

They are perfectly Happy letting go some of the core. Some who would cause people on here to self combust.

The other issue is the list has a horrible build in terms of personnel. Lack of rucks and KPP + genuine mids
