Your boy Lester had a few good moments but had a few more bad ones.

Care to comment?
He did better than break even. He didn’t cost us goals doing dumb stuff.

He should go. I learned that tonight.

Serious question, when you make these posts do you believe what you’re saying or it’s just a G up? Genuinely difficult to tell

I don’t care what a coach talks about publicly but if he fails to move on some of the older players as he has in the past again this year then unfortunately, we probably only win a premiership with him gone.

Someone said Lyons and zorko both played 30% of games time. He won't even move them on from the weekly team, let alone the club.

It's gutwrenching but I'm oddly calm about it all

I think we can take it to anyone with our best but our worst is diabolical. The first quarter lapse giving up piss easy goals was much worse than our play in the last. That was where the game was truly lost imo.

Reset reload and embrace the fact we are almost definitely playing an away qualifying final.

Jaspa will be a gun. Must stay in the side

Absolutely; you can only imagine what a half decent and ruthless coach would get out of this group, particularly one that doesn’t play favourites with his undroppable pets.

He just shouldn’t have been extended for a further two years and to say he isn’t one of or if not, the worst match day coach is kidding themselves.

The f*ck are you even on about now mate? I never said it was or should be against the rules. He’s allowed to do it, just as I’m also allowed to call him a d*ckhead for doing it when there’s zero emotion in the game.

Look mate you are embarrassing yourself.

We lose by 1 point to a Top 4 team interstate. Sack the coach. Right.
While I don’t agree with sack the coach, the same issues popped up and caused this that have been happening for the past couple of years. His loyalty to some players could be his downfall as a coach.

Even if we had Fort, Dev, Ah Chee and Dunkley out there and Melbourne had Clarrie and Fritch, chances are we still wouldn't have won that I think. Maybe if we had played the two rucks and worn Gawn down, but Gawn was the dominant player on the field and just steamrolled us. Same would have happened to Fort.

The will of the Melbourne players we couldn't match when the game was on the line and that is a mentality issue with the coaching and players, not so much personnel. Viney out-wrestling Oscar for possession was just one example in the last.

Over-coached in late match situations and so the players are pulling up stumps too early? Surely the coaches aren't instructing them to defend a lead from over ten minutes out.

I thought the Lions had packed it in well before Gunston was sent down back and as usual the game was decided in the midfield.

It’s just confusing why we can’t go on with it. We stop and it gets awkward.

Sends a message to every other team in the comp that we will leave the door wide open.

Should have been a 5 goal win, instead they find a way to let us down. In Melbourne. Again.

This is spot on.

The last 12 seconds of the game that nearly created a last ditch potentially game winning opportunity from the back half puts going defensive 10 minutes out from the final siren into perspective.

I was at the game, had a great view of the contest and can confirm that Lyons played a solid game tonight. Equal third for disposals (same number as Neale, more than Ashcroft), kicked a goal and tackled hard all game. Us losing tonight had nothing to do with Lyons and what we are seeing on our board are people who don’t like him anyway, trying to claim they were right because he had an “alleged” bad game. Well he didn’t. This is an obvious case of people rewriting reality to suit their prejudices. If you seriously want to lay some blame on players who absolutely went missing tonight, look no further than Berry and Rayner, both of whom were putrid tonight. Lyons’s 19 disposals were 3 disposals more than Berry and Rayner managed between them and Lyons even managed to kick a goal. Rayner managed to get through the second quarter without touching the ball and without sticking a single tackle. In the last quarter Rayner managed two kicks, so tonight he managed a half of football for two disposals, but somehow he escapes scrutiny and it is Lyons who should be dropped? Yeah nah. Berry escapes scrutiny too? He managed three disposals in the first half. He was nowhere near it tonight, but like Rayner, he is one of Fagan’s pets and these two will never be accountable for their form. If people want to be real, they should have a look at these two tonight and justify their selection against Geelong on form.

we got absolutely torched in the centre clearances for the first 15 minutes with lyons in there and a distinct lack of defensive edge

melbourne waltzed forward of stoppage and had clean entries inside 50 which set us up with a tall order for the rest of the game to make up the deficit

That is not true. He was setting up on the defensive side and Melbourne were clearing it from the other side of the ruck contest. It was actually Neale who was getting killed out of the middle. Lyons can’t be in two places at once. I was on the wing and had a perfect view of what was happening in the middle. You need to watch the game more closely.

I honestly feel cheated with the number one pick we ended up with. Compare him with every other number one pick running around the comp and we literally got the lemon of the bunch.

He’s nothing more than a C grader with the occasional B+ game maybe once every half season.

Don’t get me started on Jerry. Even more inconsistent than Cam and just has not come on. Time to move him on.

… and he will never, ever, be dropped.

i dont think youve really bothered to read my post

i did not blame lyons personally as the sole culprit behind our lack of defensive effort at stoppage.

but the combination of him, neale and one of ashcroft / mccluggage at stoppage does not work in stopping opposition mids from getting clean clearances and looks in forward 50. i do not see how the games of rayner or berry are relevant to JL when they do not even compete for the same positions.

i dont know why you even bother quoting disposal figures as if its a metric worth judging lyons game on. lester had 16 disposals and he was poor
