This appears to be the thinking behind not pausing the season. Apparently, the Giants and Swans are not actively advocating for a pause, but they also appear to be most in favour of a pause. But given the speed at which the Delta variant has run through Sydney and potentially Melbourne, there's no guarantee that the AFL could get the show back on the road if they give everyone an impromptu bye this weekend. Plus it would involve some delicate and frantic negotiations with the broadcasters, sponsors, ground operators, etc., to get all the ducks lined up in a row.
