AFL Autopsy Round 19: 5 goal loss to Western Bulldogs

Just too many stupid plays and thrown away chances. Short kicks when we needed to go over the back, loopy handpasses, zoning off rather than putting pressure. Obviously not to mention missing easy chances.

For those who didn't watch, the scoreboard severely flattered them. Was in reality a 2 goal win, with some cheapie a super late.

Also another game of more possessions, more tackles, less frees.
Those kicks that went over the top of the players were horrendous.

As a Melbourne fan I understand the pain of this bloody sport. Just wanted to say though as a natural fan that was a bloody ripping game and although it might be hard for you folks to swallow it now the reason we all love the sport is because of games like that.

You guys were stiff in the last with your kicking and some unlucky bounces especially the one evading danihers studs by a bees dick.

Daniher is a super star, he will win multiple Coleman medals BTW

5 goal margin about right in the end.

They looked pretty much in control from halfway through the first quarter. Thankfully 6-7 of their best players missed this game otherwise it could've been much worse.

We need to win 3 of our last 4 to salvage something out of this season. Forget finals now... we are not good enough.

Fair few players again go missing when it counts the most.

Piss poor from Goddard at the end. Doesn't touch it all day then gives away a cheap 50 at the end. Getting sick and tired of his little outbursts

25 possessions mate at 88% efficiency

The worst was we kick over their heads when we need to draw them to it, and kick short when we need to go over the top.

That being said, it's another game this season where you can honestly say we were right in it until late. Can't think of the last season other than 2000 where you can say that about every game except one (Adelaide)

Should have kicked 170 points today - Dominated the game and couldn't put it on the scoreboard - A major concern today was aerial balls in defence - Must have conceded 7 or 8 goals, by not effectively killing the ball or marking the ball.

Green and Ambrose will be back next week.

Are you serious? After initial opening 10 mins they kicked out scored us 18 goals to 9.

Good:
Daniher - Best key forward in the league. Covers a ridiculous amount of ground yet now the clear leader in the Coleman.
Parish - Best game for the club. Played a really well rounded game both being hard at the contest and showing silk on the outside.
Stewart - Didn't hit the scoreboard as much as possible, but he was in a hell of a lot of our quality forward entries.

Bad:
Zaharakis - Started the game on fire but drifted away to end up disappointing.
Merrett - Tagged out of the game. Should have pushed forward earlier to try and shake Libba loose.
Clearances - Smashed. We had the dominant ruckman on the ground but they just continually sharked his taps. When it went to one of our blokes, too many fumbles which they swooped on.

Ugly:
JJ - Let run free and cost us the game. Yet again we choose not to tag the taggable and get burnt because of it.
Jobe - Looks cooked.
Laverde - Just offered nothing. Might have dominated in his first two VFL hit outs, but it was against garbage opposition. Needs to go back and work on getting involved in the game.
Hooker - Just stunk for the entire game. Only looked good when he was clunking marks, never when disposing of it.
Backline - Everything about it was woeful. Hurley is clearly carrying an injury, Bags put in a stinker on his 100th, McGrath looks exhausted and needs a rest, Kelly was completely out of sorts and probably also needs a rest.

More to follow when not so angry and hungry, off to the BBQ!

As long s we beat Carlton i dont care a crap about hte rest of this year.
Play all the kids. prefere=ably ones that can hit kick friggin goals and not turn the ball over.
We used to laugh at Clangenmakers. We got about 16 of them at the moment

How many forward movements can a team stuff up in one game???

We had so many chances to win the game but couldn't.

Numerous important players not standing up when needed.

Back line had an absolute mare and seems to have lost its cohesion. (Hartley played well but was only on Cloke)

Constant kicking to outnumbered contests that results in an instant rebound as soon as the ball hits the deck.

Not too upset really. Frustrated, yes but not upset.

I did not expect us to play finals this season and have been very happy with our efforts.

We had the best passages of play from either team throughout the game. It was simply our kicking that let us down.

Both Tippa and Hurley with horrible kicks into the forward fifty in the last 8 minutes that led to goals the other way.

I expect a big offseason turnover to be coming as Worsfold will be able to finally have the full team he wants without having to offer spots to Watson, Hocking, Stanton, etc.

We will bounce back next week.

Go Bombers.

You've all heard the movie 'Bad Day At Black Rock' today was a Bad Day At Etihad.

Disappointing loss to the reigning premiers

Joey with 6

Funny you should say that because black rock wear Essendon jumpers!

Frustrating game today. Thought the doggies were pretty good but we were still a very good chance to win. Just wasted too many opportunities, both with field kicking and shots on goal.

I hope our boys get a good lesson out of that. The team running from the doggies to build zone pressure and their intensity around the ball was very good. If this team is ever going to stand up in finals they will have to deal with that.

I like you, but I don't like when you bang on about Worsfold every time we lose.

Jobe is done at the end of the year. Mistake after mistake.

Merrett.. did he play?

Woosha.. why are we the only club to send noone to johannisen. Laughable. Got your just deserts.

Watch him not tag Sloane and him rack up 40 possessions and 3 goals.

Stop being a stubborn prick and tell some one to sit on the oposisitions best player.
