McRea subbing a cooked Mitchell was a match winning move too.
Yep, don't think it can be understated how massive a call this was. Mitchell 'fresh' off a half game last week but clearly causing us dramas with speed through the midfield in the wet.

Could've undoubtedly taken the easy path of subbing a quiet Bobby Hill or breaking our forward structure to pull Cox out of the game. Went big though and subbed one of our prime movers because he wasn't suited. Loved the call and it paid dividends.

I like Mitchell, but he is extremely limited. People pot Adams' for his disposal, but his problem is he tends to bite off more than he can chew - Mitchell on the other hand genuinely can't kick over a jam tin and his kicking limitations have a bad habit of stimming our fast forward plays (he stops and props whenever he marks the ball because he doesn't have the ability to hit at target at pace).
We've gotten good value from him this year and I hope that continues until the end of finals, but I can really see him falling off a cliff within the next year or so and being fully pushed out. Another yard of pace or a bit less depth in his kicking and he's going to really struggle to have an impact.

Stats say we won the clearances but god it felt like we got really beaten up at the stoppages and certainly center clearances (which we also surprisingly won). They really scragged us and denied us clean runs at it. When we did win it we were soooo unclean, mostly with the perceived pressure and not handling the conditions.

Port were very good. As has been mentioned - that was essentially their GF. They rested players, home ground, us not quite being up for it for 3 quarters, they executed really well, denied Naicos, denied us our rebound from D50 (with assistance from the weather), and still they could not get it done with some difficult games ahead. Apart from Billy, Tay, Steele, Beau, and Murph I'm not sure we had any other clear winners on the ground, at best some break evens and quite a few marginal or clear losses. But somehow we won, hats off to the boys, so good to watch!

Just two very good sides that played a brilliant game of footy.....

Jamie Elliott, the King of Clutch.
Nathan Murphy the Lionheart.
Beau McCreery, the little engine that could. That pass to Bobby was sublime.

Sidey's effort in the last few minutes sealed it, but the boys lifted in that last quarter.

I love this club, and I love youse all.

Our stoppage work was fine today. Certainly once Adams went in there.

What we didn't have was our usual ball movement. Struggled to get much going from defence. There are definitely some concerns from this game. Conditions and playing away from home may be enough of a reason, but we definitely didn't play how we'd want to.

AO seems a narrower ground which compresses everyone.

When do you start calling your coach "Jock"? I reckon it will happen one day because I can see him becoming an absolute legend.

You really do have an absolute gem on your hands with Craig McRae. Great attitude, great footy and he's (potentially) created a ******* great team.
Being a Celtic man, this comment works on two levels for me. 👍

I dunno what to feel after that. Elation of course, but I behaved really badly during that game. We had friends over, and I swore and yelled a lot, and they looked a bit shocked. Then I ran out of the room with ten minutes to go, and didn’t come back until the siren.

Mr Park is now giving me the silent treatment for ‘behaving like a child’.

I don’t think I’m cut out for these high pressure games. Was seriously thinking of giving footy away during that game.

But not before we win the flag.😊
