Comes down to in finals we're going to come up against a strong team like Melbourne coming out with the intent they had and we need to find a way to not crumble like we've done for the last 4 years

Tonight was the perfect test and we failed miserably
Surely you are being sarcastic. We beat the team who was 3rd on the ladder and we were 15th. We won and they lost. I think that is a good thing. Come finals, if we are in front of Melbourne or any team by 40 points with 12 minutes to go in the last quarter, I will be beside myself with joy, because the circumstances of last night will most likely never be repeated.

The only way last night was a ‘perfect test’ was if we were training for the future eventuality that the lights fail in the last quarter of a night game, where we are leading by a match winning margin and the side has to leave the arena for a lengthy break prior to a restart. In that case, you are right there may have been “learnings” from last night, otherwise the final 12 minutes last night were completely irrelevant. Just to cover all bases though, maybe we need to hire a Specialist Power Outage and Associated Mishap Restart Coach.

Are we to assume Melbourne has a Specialist Restart Coach?

Both teams were in the same situation except Melbourne got to warm up on the field for 2 minutes

Melbourne had nothing to lose so they played with different intensity level. It started coming off as well which gave them even more energy to keep going. We wanted to hold and cruise through, more importantly avoid injuries. If we were 30 points down and decided to have a swing as well, it would've looked totally different.

Honestly wouldn’t be shocked if Melbourne did have a specialist restart coach

But we knew they would do that. We had a chance to withstand the challenge but almost all of our players left the work to their teammates

the situation went against us but offered a unique challenge that I hope the club regrets putting that level of effort into

Maybe so. In this case I think it was his honest take on it at the time. We were all feeling a little emotional in the back of our minds wondering whether fate might deal us a cruel blow.

As we observed at the time we were the only ones who could lose out of this situation. The good thing were the courageous acts that straightened us up enough to hold on. McKenna , Ashcroft, Cameron , Andrews, Joyce and Wilmot IIRC.

The other issue isn’t just old mate’s takes, but that he only seems to post reactive negative opinions. It gets old real quick, and some people are clearly just over it.

We can't avoid the fact that players have gone through cool down routine for 30 minutes and the adrenaline / intensity had worn off. There was nothing to prove at that point and we are not in the hunter mode anymore. What happened on the back of that can't be predicted or controlled by anyone.

If you say there was no outage and we dropped the bundle, that'll be a fair argument. Here players are wavering between are they going to call off the game soon ? what do we do next ? this is not a fair comparison of us losing our sh1t and going into our shells.

Payne could be a worry.
I injured my scaphoid taking a mark and landing also from a reasonable height with just my right arm extended to break the fall.
Out for 3 months in plaster and removable pins inserted through the wrist.
Hopefully he is okay.

They wouldn’t have sent him back out if it was likely a scaphoid (or another fracture to be honest). You can tell a scaphoid fracture generally by pressing over the anatomical snuff box, if it’s not sore there then it’s not that.

To me it just looked like he jarred he’s wrist, he didn’t really look that hampered when he came back out

Was it not the same for both teams?

We had so much to prove after last week not to mention 4 years of consistently crumbling against top teams

Melbourne did the same thing as we did post restart in R21 2021.

So you’re right, next time we’re in a game with a 49 minute break during the final quarter, I’m sure we’ll have learned from this extremely specific situation we found ourselves in.

They didn't do it. They were equally lacklustre intially after the restart. It was only after a few minutes when they'd gotten a couple of quick goals that their intensity stepped up and they gave it a real go unlike us.

To be fair it’s interesting when he melts and deletes his account

The good thing is that if you're right and it's a big deal we still got the chocolates.

That can be empowering and a wake up call to never take the foot off the opposition's throat.

But this isn’t unique to a mid quarter break. It’s actually very close to finals games where when you’re down you can grow everything you have at a team

If this was the first time an opposition kicks 5 goals in 5 minutes against us you could write it off but it’s almost a monthly occurrence for us

Come on mate. I'm supposed to be the 'nutty one' remember?

You mean like in the Richmond final where we were down a goal or two in the last quarter and held + fought back under Richmond’s pressure?

Or in the Melbourne final where we were completely outclassed in the first half and fought back in the 2nd half, and held strong against their surge in the last 10 minutes?

Come off it mate, at least make sure your stupid analogies are correct before you start throwing them out there.

The Richmond final was a great game but it was a mid table team we barely scraped by at home

Melbourne game was a classic but there was another game a week later you didn’t mention

We need to find a way to put in at least 3 strong efforts in December. That’s the goal and last night was a step forward but could’ve been better

And just a quiet word to all those posters here anxious to write-off Zorko because he's a nasty, horrible, hard (you know the rest).

If you want any evidence as to how important he is to us look at his contribution last night, both on and off field.

He definitely needs to be commended for getting his fitness back to where it was before his Achilles injury

Over reliance on Zorko is a cause for concern I reckon. He is getting a bit long in the tooth and quite injury prone. Great impact on the game last night though. Time for some others to start providing that spark.
