They did not have to drop Jonas to pick Clurey: McKenzie was injured but they chose to go small.Clurey was available for selection. So did the genius coach throw his captain under the bus by not selecting another key position defender?
Or either of the Krey bros, particularly the geebung coach he would be doing backwards triple hand stands on the desk and practising his kick boxing skills on the walls.Could you imagine if Clarkson was our couch and him keeping quiet about the reamings we get from umpires?
No, me neither.
I am desperately hoping that JHF matures quickly so that we can have a skipper with a fierce desire to win.100% agree the lack of on field leadership is frightening. Successful clubs have great leaders Voss Hodge Selwood they would lift a team by their actions and the rest would follow.
We had to appoint co captains we were that bereft of leaders at the club after Boak stood down. Byrne-Jones is part of our leadership group for god sake.
Correct weight and all clearI think Hinkley's papers are stamped. We're just going thru' the motions.
We dominated WC in the trial and were what 1 point up at half time. We dominated inside 50s against Freo. Being behind at half time against the Lions, despite what the stats said, was not a surprise, because that was the sort of ineffective game style we've been demonstrating for years. Just go look at the posting at half time in the match thread.I usually agree with most of what you post but it is unfair to call the Brisbane game one good quarter. We dominated the first quarter and but for a 9-3 free kick count to Brisbane, we would have led by 5-6 goals at quarter time.
Second quarter, Brisbane definitely on top, but again on the back of a lopsided umpiring count.
We smashed them in the third quarter and kicked 5 goals to one in the last - put them to the sword which we so often fail to do. We won 3 of the 4 quarters and we did play aggressive attacking footy.
But as is so often the case, we completely failed to back it up the next week in game that tested our mettle. Poor selection, poor attitude, application and discipline. A hallmark of Hinkley's reign.
It was as dismal a performance as the Bulldogs game. And it is all too common.

We continually dominate stats against teams and don't put the score on the board. It is exactly the concerns we all had at half time against the Lions. That 3rd quarter was the anomaly.
We have played both trials and the Brisbane game on our terms. The games have been our style, slow with a forward press that is working. The only quarter that looked good was that 3rd. The Collingwood game was the first game played completely on our opponents terms and the result showed. It's actually incredibly scary that the first time we saw someone challenge our gameplan, it got absolutely torn to shreds.
Church.Lachie was just a bad match up for Daicos who is a star. He was too quick in thought and foot speed. Plus as a forward does he concentrate on what his opponent is doing or creating goal scoring opportunities? He shouldn't be having to make those critical decisions. Tbh our best option for Daicos was McEntee who is hard as a cat's head, disciplined, has some quickness and would focus solely on stopping Daicos.
This whole Lachie as forward experiment is madness. In his draft year as a 17 year old he shut down every type of go to forward in the sanfl. Small quicks, tall forwards and anyone in between.
Play him in defence and let him settle in a position. Yes he will make mistakes and cost goals, but guess what? He's a kid with a handful of games experience trying to get his body right for AFL football. You can't scream about gold passes for senior players and demand the kids be played but then get rid of the kids if they don't play like 100 gamers from the outset.
We're not going to win anything this year, so give him some experience.
Absolutely. I certainly went into the Collingwood game thinking of a negative reality and an extremely positive reality from the Brisbane game. However the result of the Collingwood game has certainly cemented more of the negative view as the reality in my mind. The Brisbane game probably said we're a bit better than what we saw in pre-season, but a lot of that was wiped on Saturday. That's just ignoring the way we played against Brisbane. We were hitting up targets in the F50 and when we weren't handicapped by the umpiring we were clearly the better team.
We won three quarters of that game handsomely, it bore no resemblance to the trial games. And a game day thread on this board is no indicator, soz.
But hey that's footy, we all see things differently.
Except how we played on Saturday
SPP did OK on him in the last quarter; albeit, too late she cried!Church.
I agree with everything you’ve said but I can’t see them dropping DBJ for Lachie. He’ll go in for Burton but once Burtons back it’ll be tough for Lachie to have a spot.Lachie was just a bad match up for Daicos who is a star. He was too quick in thought and foot speed. Luv watching your team play. McRae is doing a wonderful job.You blokes need to get rid of Kochie as we did with Ed.
Replace Hinkley with someone like Adam Yze or Blake Caracella. Both have held high apprentiships like McRae and both considered huge football brains.
Out with the deadwood and don't bring in recycled deadwood.
I would have been rapt with either Yze or Caracella and happy we got McRae.
Club needs to get serious because as Pies proved it's possible.
Respect and good luck
