"A very experienced Collingwood lineup ... do you think this is going to be as one sided as it looks on paper? ... you'd hope not".

Oops
Good thing I wasn't listening to that. I saw the odds before the match and Collingwood were outsiders. Them saying that would have convinced me to put the bet on.

Watched from the fence right on the pies interchange. Not a good feeling and the players don't seem to all be on the same page . Chris Mayne was trying to give instructions to 3 other players whilst waiting to go back on and none of them had any interest in what he had to say . He then commented to himself this is ****ed . Thank your lucky stars Mayne that Buckley was the only blonk on the planet willing to sign you for 4 years at $500 k per year . Also no 48 the young blonde kid Don't play if you are that scared pal it was embarrassing watching you actually get the privilege to pull on the black and white guernsey!

Why would we prefer that? They're all excellent intercept marks, all good by foot, but Howe and Reid are both faster and more suited to 1v1 play imo.

Honestly though, matchups should vary depending on the opposition. We should be rapt to have 3 quality intercept markers playing seniors, not saying we have too many!
Howe is starring in the role. If we make him accountable in order to fit in an unproven youngster, we'll probably lose out offensively. Sharenberg needs to cut his teeth in a different role.

Sums up the past 5 years for the club.

you know one of the reasons he was signed was for his footy IQ and ability to organize players? he regularly gives instructions to players at breaks.

Pretty shit comment tbh. Tardrew tried harder than most of the so called senior players.

Out of all the players he is the last one you should be embarrassed pulling on the guernsey.

Yeah I'd say that's more an indictment on our other players than it is on Mayne.

Pretty disappointing that a team full of AFL listed players, that are trying to break into the 1's, were absolutely pasted. Also disappointing was the soggy unsalted chips. The highlight of the day was my daughter cracking the shits, making me take her home at 3 quarter time. In hindsight it was an inspired decision.

Were the 3 other players AFL listed? Very concerning if so, especially after Howe and Grundy's comments post St Kilda game about other players not putting the efforts.

No way we get our season back on track with a fractured playing group. Even if Bucks fixes the issues with his game plan.

Then who's Fault is it IF we have the Playing List on Different Pages to each other?

For me it's the process that lead to his appointment.

He'll get better no doubt, but were we really in the position to hand the responsibility of our reserves to a guy with one year's coaching experience? We desperately need to be fast tracking our talent in support of the woeful football we're playing at senior level. Despite that we went with a guy that is barely a year older than some of his players!

Where was the ingenuity of going out and getting the next Tapping who's served his apprenticeship guiding younger players at TAC or SANFL U18 level? I just don't get the logic other than to have a yes man to Buckley ensuring we follow his shit systems to a tee!

Don't disagree with much of that - there are a lot of alarming signs around but they did bring back Gotch too, I guess.

But what's the direction of the club? We seem to change and change again, with footy managers and all.

I am also genuinely pissed off with us keeping footy department (or recruiting?) spending so low, as reported. Why bother generating lots of income if we're not spending it there? Screw the tax!

In any case, our club style of play sucks - it's almost unwatchable.

It simply looks like many of them (AFA or VFL) don't believe that they can pull off what's being expected of them. There's little or no 'dare' in our play, in either kicking or run. The attacking handball, briefly on display in the preseason, has quickly disappeared.

As to the list, how many speedy and skilled users do we have available to play the daring style?

The top 4 teams have belief and daring - they give away free kicks to take on the game (look at the stats for 'frees against' for each club, as an example).

Richmond have gone past us with their team clearly buying in to what's being asked of them...Richmond!

Year six, Eddie!

It's the first time I've been to a VFL game since 2015 . I deliberately stood on the fence with my daughter near the interchange for the pies . I've coached at senior level and won flags . In 1991 I was recruited by Brian Ciccatosco to South Fremantle and played a season under Mal Brown with big Craig Edwards ,Marty Atkins ,John Annear and a fresh faced 16 year old kid named Darren Gasper . I've also played in flags in the Geelong league So my understanding of the game and inside knowledge of football clubs has been a big part of my life for a long time . The 3 boys standing with Mayne were not AFL Listed . However they still had on the same jumper I don't blame Mayne for getting frustrated I don't rate him personally but I really hope he does well because I feel he has been given the winning lotto ticket I hope he cashes it in for all our sakes as pies supporters. Mayne was 100 per cent correct in his advice he told the 3 boys we are not protecting the outlets everytime Essendon got possession in Collingwoods forward 50 they switched to the far side of the ground which was unprotected and ran the ball out with ease because the exit points weren't covered . They all seemed to be playing for their own agenda with some smaller groups supporting each other but not the team at whole ! Nathan should stand exactly where I stood then he might understand how to get out of the position he has created for himself. Loved Bucks as a player but he lost me 2 years ago when he stated in a press conference ( It's not my job to motivate players at this level . If they can't motivate themselves they should not be playing at AFL level ) .
