Late to the party on the Hanners teeth gnashing but while the club has any chance to make finals, it is inherent on the coaches to choose the players they believe will win us the game.
I think we have stuffed the season, like many, but win tomorrow we are still a chance.
Lose the following week and we can pack up and play kids in the last two.
Anyway that's my thoughts.

No idea but how it 4 at the most if Ryder has missed 6 and Marshall one and Campbell only played one. Doesn’t that make it 6 or are you counting lienart as a ruck? Surely he is a ruck like Sharman or battle are rucks.
Ah yes - I forgot Ryder missed the first two games.

Marshall ruck, Campbell/Higgins/Butler deep for the Hanners long bomb, King roaming around CHF - boom boom boom - absolute goal fest for the Saints!!!

Hope you are right but I doubt the hawks are going to be shaking in their boots with Campbell deep. Max will still play mainly ff but occasionally get up the ground. Think I’d rather owens as a medium forward than Campbell but happy for you to tell me I was wrong on Saturday night.

I'm no Ratten believer, but to be fair to him he has shown a willingness to play kids, probably to the detriment of the short term results. Windy, Nas and Owens have all played a substantial amount this year. It was Owens first game back from 6 weeks+ on the sidelines wasn't it? I'm sure they would have picked him if they thought he was ready. Hanners has been good in the VFL and the season has a semi-pulse, I've got no problem with picking him. Lord knows it would be nice to get a little more return for the millions we've paid him...

It reminds me of when they pulled John Howard out during the election. Just looks a bit desperate, instead of backing in new ideas they pul out the guy who smells of mothballs and boiled cabbage and hope that he doesn't croak during the cafe stops.

I hope he defies his body's post 2016 record and gets through and carries us to finals but it's real fingers and toes crossed stuff.
I'm happy they've picked him. He's fit and playing well so deserves to play. Hopefully he plays well and sees out the season in good form.
If that happens I'd sign him again for a year but on min wage with game triggers. When fit he's still in our best 22

Blanck on Campbell/Marshall, Sicily on King - the forward line will be the least of our problems.

And yes I agree Owens as a forward/mid instead of Long was the way to go.

Certainly not a list clogger, worth the risk on base with incentives if he can get through a bloody preseason. the rest of his body should be in top notch, has not been battered at all in the past four seasons

It’s not about Hanners vs Owens. They should both be in over Campbell.

Billings and gresh out. Why is a ruckman coming in
All year we have been blasting King to get up the ground and help out for an option to the kicker. When Membrey is the leader on the wing and King is the next option, with no other ruckman we target a small in Higgins who usually get's a medium rather than a small defender, or Wood who is a hard-running winger. Wouldn't it be better to have a tall like Campbell or Marshall who could help take pressure of King when Membrey plays in defence and King goes in 1v3? This can also allow for smalls like Long and Butler to apply pressure when the ball hit's the deck and we can surge the ball forward.
Also, everyone seems to not want Hanners in over Owens, but a big complaint almost all of us have had is on-field leadership. Hanners is the best person for this. Bring him in for a low-table side rather than Geelong, and play Owens as sub

Is Hanners leadership stuff a bit of an urban myth though? I've seen them train and he didn't jump out as the most leadery guy out there. He looks like he loves being around the boys and always has a smile on his face but he certainly doesn't radiate that kind of Luke Hodge barely contained malice towards anyone who doesn't push themselves.
Not so much about the BJ/roo yelling at everybody when things go wrong.
It’s about reading the game and directing traffic in the middle.
Making the call of when to attack, when to hold the game up.
When to swap opponents at a stoppage.

Perhaps we should play the system like few others. Hanna's to play 2 1/2 qtrs, before a little calf tightness and replaced by the med sub for a QTR and a half. Best of both worlds.

Interesting selections this week. Solid team.

The only question I ask is, I would have thought Owens would have been the perfect replacement for the injured Gresham.

Other than that, I think we go in as favourites given the way the first game against the Hawks went this year.

Because if you move King to CHF you have a hole at FF. We spoke about it during the podcast this week that it wouldn't surprise us to see Campbell in to allow Ro the freedom to play deep and let King roam. They all have form of kicking goals against the Hawks, so it makes sense to me.

Campbell has also played great football at VFL level and if we're arguing Owens deserves a spot after 1 game back from injury, surely Campbell then warrants a spot after continuous weeks of good form during the year. Especially with Paddy out.

If we're being fair, blooding the kids was one of his KPI's for a new contract so it's been said. I think old mate Lethers probably gets the credit if there is any...

The only way I could see it working is a handshake deal that he retires upon another injury. That will open an SPP or MSD spot, otherwise no dice..

He was a bit of a party boy at the Swans. I have a feeling that when he couldn't get on the park we may have pushed the whole leadership thing to justify the outlay.

Anyway, I'm bored with talking about him. He's playing and we just have to hope his body holds up and defies the last 6 years of seasons ruined by injury.

I don't think we are blooding more than other sides either. All sides play their good kids.

Like I mentioned. The Collingwood comeback was a prime example. Pendles doesn’t yell at players but he knew the game plan well enough to initiate a counter attack

If Marshall plays full forward he’s kicking at least 4 this week. That’s my tip.

King at CHF, Campbell in the ruck. Just try it. If it doesn’t work, switch Campbell and Marshall, and adapt to the game.

We need equal tall targets up forward not just Max. That’ll bring the smalls into the game.

Ideally Campbell is out of the side and we move Sharman up forward but you know, I’m all for experimenting, and Campbell has been more then solid in the VFL.
