CScott on afl 360 last night ..as part of him going past reg hickey in games coached. When asked about the run into finals ...

"... there are two ways to look at it. One way have a challenging draw some of the teams we playing coming home but the way I prefer to look at it is if we make the finals we will be coming in pretty hot cause we will have to play well to beat those teams and I think thats a better place to be ... clearly we would rather be where Collingwood or Port is but the most important thing is to hit your straps when it counts .... in some ways if you are limping in , you are better off not making it all and focusing on next year... "

It's a reasonable point. We might have to beat one of Port of Collingwood to make it from here, but tbh if we have games against Brisbane, Port and Collingwood for 3 losses at this stage of the season, we're probably not a serious contender anyway.

But it's also a very positive way of framing being 8th on the ladder.

In the words of Al Davis: Just win baby!

Seriously though, although % is irrelevant for us I'd still want to be putting this mob away early.

Hope this is ok to post here - looking for two tickets, if anyone knows of any please let me know. $$$$ Cheers :)

I'd be resting Hawkins or Jezza (whoever needs it the most) - need them fresh for Port, and the remainder of the season.

Hawkins is 35 and has played every game this season.. We did the same to him last season and he ended up with a foot injury..

Fremantle definitely a danger game but if we can't beat them at home we don't deserve to play finals.

In: Rohan
Out: Hawkins or Jezza (rest)

It's not totally irrelevent with Carlton, Richmond and Sydney being three of the four teams sitting directly below us.
Sure, but Collingwood will beat Carlton, and the gap on Sydney and Richmond is pretty damn big at this stage of the year.

It's not like the early rounds where you can win or lose and gain or lose ridiculous amounts.

A win will keep us ahead of them, but I'd prefer a good win.

Just a side note to this Weekend

A very peculiar set of occurrences.

Tom Hawkins will play game number 111 at Kardinia Park moving equal with Joel Selwood as having the equal 4th most game played at KP

Joel has a record at KP as below

Played: 111
Won: 97
Lost: 14

If we beat Fremantle Hawkins record will be.

Played: 111
Won: 97
Lost: 14

Cant afford to rest anyone with our ladder position. Especially stanley.

I think it will be rohan for mullin-not sure who will go to sub but someone will. Other than that i expect us to be unchanged unless tanners shoulder isnt good to go. Id love to see menegola in but i cant see it happening this late in the year.
I am with you. certainly we don’t have the luxury we did this time last year.

I expect they will want to give Stanly a chop out and maybe Jezza if he doesn’t improve. I don’t think we can afford to give danger a rest. So yes I expect maybe less than a few true rests over the last 5 games. Time to play our best 23 and see how they go. And hope they last

Anyone else feel that rohan is a huge important player for us?? The way we are trying to play he is integral.
Every now and then I see glimpses of G.A Senior in Rohan, his attack on the ball and the man his kicking for goal and the way he hits a pack can bring the memories flooding back.

David King on SEN saying that he spoke with Chris pregame when we played GWS and Chris said he was "desperate" to get Tom Stewart in the middle. So we saw it against the Lions, so I'm expecting to see it more.

We're needing some way to bolster our midfield this year if we're going to go far so I guess that's Scott's idea. Kingy was all for it btw, said sometimes you just get you best players around the footy and Stewart is smart and is good kick.

My idea (not that it means anything) would've been to try Jack Henry in the middle if he was fit enough to play large minutes there. Think he'd do well, but what would I know.

With no Darcy does that tempt the club in respect Conway?

Stanley, Blicavs, Conway, and a bit of Hawkins all rucking seems like overkill. Conway would have to be the sub and come on for either Blitz or Stanley around 1/4 time to give them a bit of cotton wool.

I don't mind that idea. However, the question the is what to do if someone gets injured early and requires the sub to be activated?

This is why I usually advocate having a versatile medium-size player as the sub. Someone like Knevitt, O'Connor, or Tuohy, who you could play almost anywhere on the ground.

If we copped an early injury we'd need to send Blicavs to fill that role, and then Conway would ruck for five minutes a quarter or so to give Stanley some relief. That would still work.

I suppose if we were going to give Conway a taste at AFL level in 2023, it'll have to be this week or not at all.

Channel 7 said Jeremy Cameron was walking laps at training due to a hit to the knee during the lions game..

If his not right, I wonder if they give Shannon Neale a game.. his played approx 4 games in a row now, and the club was going to play him early this season until he got injured...

Honestly I'd like to see Neale get a game

Yuck why?
Because we simply are not a chance to win it if we can't beat a terrible and battered Freo at home (not that we are really a shot anyway with this midfield).

There are strings we could pull that would help put us in a stronger position for next year.

Tank mode for this year only... not ongoing.
