AFL Autopsy Round 3: 21 point loss to Bulldogs

There’s so much I can say about this game, but I won’t for now.

But I will ask one question: why do the coaches never seem to change anything up until it’s late in the last? The same this occurred last year. I don’t understand why Daniher, who is clearly struggling, is not pinch hitting in the ruck like has has in past seasons?
Hate him or not, but Hird was a good match day coach

I don't know how we beat Adelaide. But we won't win too many games. There doesn't seem to be any plan at all getting out of defence. Unless the plan is keep turning it over on half back until the other team gets a goal then hope to win the centre clearance.

Time to swing the axe and bring in some young energy.
Step on down Redman, Clarke, Guelfi, Langford.

Cya later Bags, Brown, Green, Myers.

A question for those with a better memory than me:

When was the last time that Myers played a game, and the general consensus was that he was good?

I know he wasn't always like this...

Yeah but its just the amazing leadership he brings. Especially loved the free he gave away against Bontempelli where it was soooooooooo obvious he was going to get into his back. All he had to do was not clamber all over the top of him. It was doubtful there was even a threat in that position. All he had to do was not give away a free and get to his feet.

But what's not to like about Myers, he's slow both in movement, ability to dispose of the ball and to pick up the ball. He can't hit short kicks, he can't mark despite being the tallest midfielder around, doesn't win a lot of the ball, always looks like he's just learned how to handball and just generally does silly things on the field. Should have just stuck with Langford and I don't even rate Langford.

The midfield were all horrible. None of them could hit a target or stick a tackle all day. Embarrassing stuff especially considering Bellchambers was absolutely dominating the hitouts. Zac Merrett doesn't seem right since his concussion. I don't think he's ever found so little of the ball in his entire career when he wasn't the sub. I'll be honest - I don't want to make the finals if our midfield is still at its current level by the end of the season.

A lot will be said about the Daniher error and it was a shocker but I'm kind of glad it was Daniher who made the error. Odds are he will be in that situation again one day in the future and I don't think he will make that error again. It may also light a fire under him for the weeks to come.

To a lesser extent I'm also frustrated at the defense for not being able to hit targets or have any composure and always playing on immediately when we had no targets to go to or it required a miracle kick. Way too many kicks in hope and not enough structure in how we moved the ball.

Green is just as much to blame for the Daniher error. If your out of form full forward clunks a mark in the goal square you don’t go run in and ask for the gimme goal. Walk away next time Green & let him that the kick.

Well that was disappointing.

It feels to me that the boys aren't energetic enough before the game. it takes us to be 25 points down with 10 mins to go before the run starts.
This is a coaching issue for me. if the guys aren't ready to play early then something in the change rooms isn't working.

Also went to see the boys train during the week and have never heard more laughing and joking from a football team ever, I had the pleasure of watching GWS train about a month ago and they were flat out all the time, Very professional.

We can blame the players a lot but the real problem is the coaches and the decsions they make and what they allow.
- Game plan has been worked out by 17 other teams, no plan b.
- Stubborn to move Hooker back and play Stringer forward where they look so natural and make us better (see last 10 mins today).
- Selection has been horrible and the want to drop players that aren't performing is invisible.
- Allowing players to sit stagnant for the game without shifting them to get them into the game. Daniher in the ruck and all of a sudden he's taking marks and involved, Hooker back and he gets involved and straightens us up.

Woosha said after last weeks game that the mids didn't do the forwards any favours with the delivery and this week said the forwards didn't position themselves well enough for the mids. He should be able to see this on game day and not wait until the review.

There should have been fire coming from the coaches at quarter time but instead they had a love in and talked about staying the course.

Our brand is too nice and our players are too nice.

Time for a statement and some resolve. Zerret out (not performing to the level expected) I kn ow this is harsh but go get the ball and your back in, Brown out (out of his depth), Tipungwuti out (needs to play four quarters not quarter four). Replace these guys with anyone who has a dip and put the rest of the list on notice that if they can't play with pride in the jumper than they can piss off.

Enough is enough, for the fans that have had to deal with what this club has put us through I am over saying its ok there always next week.

I want a flag.

Fantasia: Genuine star and speed. Good to have him back.

Myers: Looked underdone? Hindsight needed a week in VFL before returning

Begley: Back to VFL. Turnovers galore in first half

Zerrett: Need to work out how to shake a tag.

Goddard: No longer allowed to take the kicks. Errors galore.

Hooker: Looked good down back late in the game. Keep him there.

Belly: Played great first two rounds, had a stinker today though back to his lazy ways. Should have been able to beat English.

Coaches:
Should have played McGrath on Bont?

I’m not mad just disappointed

I’m soothed by the fact that I follow the draft and will be excited for our next top 10 pick ;)
I am with you in thinking we will get a pretty high pick this year based on last 2 weeks showing. But unless our player development improves, it ain't going to help much. We desperately need some leadership role models.
