Some crazy ideas
Yarran moves to a wing as he is is not performing down back and we need him delivering into F50 and providing a running target across middle (assist our backline outlets). Everitt to play as third tall back and Simpson to play as loose back as he is courageous and has footy nous that allows him to read the play - just think we need to try something different and we play everyone down back during a game so why not start like that at centre clearances

Henderson goes back as Casboult gives us forward line marking ability and as we have no run from our mid-field we need someone up forward to clunk them - not great that he misses 2 out of three shots at goal but better than only getting two shots at goal - we can't have three big guys up forward and Walker gives us size/run

We need to counter the opposition run with plans that are limiting our ability to run the ball out of our backline by forcing them to go back to zones by forming clusters and having either speedsters break or swarming to one side and weight of numbers winning contests

Out: White, Tutt, Smith, Ellard, Wood
In: Buckley, Walker, Armfield, Cripps, Warnock (if fit)

Very lucky: Curnow, Menzel and Rowe

Unlucky: Graham and Whiley

Harsh: People bagging Liam Jones - hardest start to a new club is playing in our forward line. Horrible going inside 50 and only went in 35 times.

Well it's being only able to play in one position that's the problem.

Everitt/Walker/White can anywhere, Henderson forward or back, Casboult forward and ruck, Rowe forward back or ruck, Wood in a pocket.

At the very least, Liam should be running his arse off up to the wings to lead if the footy doesn't make it into the arc.

The team should still be determined by form, NOT game style. We are not trying to make the 22 look pretty on paper.
Boekhorst is not ready yet, and neither was Smith.

OUT -
White (Injured), Smith (Omitted), Wood (Omitted), Ellard (Omitted), Menzel (Omitted), Tutt (Omitted)

IN - Cripps, Armfield, Graham, Warnock, Buckley, Whiley

I'd give Walker another week with the Northern Blues. Has missed an fair amount of the pre-season preparation.

Smith needs to be dropped. Too much game time so far. Needs to get it gradually throughout the year.
Ellard and Tutt faded out of the game. We need a new set of fast legs. Armfield and Buckley should replace them.
I know I have lately been complaining with Buckley's form but if they can push him up forward, he will apply some good pressure.
Push Bell up forward too.
Armfield to run off half-back.
Push Simpson down back and bring in Cripps.
Menzel not up to it at the moment. Give him a week in the VFL and see how he goes before bringing him back in. He was nowhere to be seen last night.
Warnock in for Wood.

As much as everyone likes to think that one of Curnow or Carrazzo should be dropped. I cannot see it happening. But if anybody should be dropped out of the two, it should definitely be Carrazzo. He's past it. Has not shutdown any of his players, and has not performed as well as Curnow has. He bleeds blue and his passion for Carlton is there. But we ain't going to get anywhere with him in the side. Should consider retiring.

FB: Tuohy, Jamison, Rowe
HB: Yarran, Armfield, Docherty
C: Curnow, Gibbs, Cripps
HF: Murphy, Henderson, Bell
FF: Casboult, Jones, Buckley
R: Warnock, Judd, Carrazzo
I: Everitt, Simpson, Graham
S: Whiley

Somebody with good speed should come in as the SUB. Thought Whiley was a good option.
Curnow is our main tagger.
Bell needs to play up forward. He is not helping the team very well in the midfield.
Casboult lucky to keep his spot. But we have to have a good forward option, because Jones is unpredictable and Henderson is not in great form.
Rowe lucky too.
Need some run off half-back, added Yarran and Armfield there.
Seems like one too many midfielders, but some need to be flexible and play in other areas on the field. Gibbs, Murphy and Bell are good for the forward.
Graham and Everitt at half-back now and then could help as well.

Judd, Carrazzo, Gibbs, Cripps and Curnow seems a bit sloppy to start off with, but I would rotate Carrazzo and Cripps out of the midfield throughout the game. Curnow can't play anywhere else, as he is only a specialist in the midfield.

As much as I agree with most posters about all their 'outs', I can't see the club making more than 4 changes at one time. But still, imo...

out: White (inj), Smith, Wood, Tutt, Ellard.
in: Walker, Buckley, Warnock, Cripps, Whiley.

FB: Docherty, Jamison, Rowe
HB: Touhy, Hendo, Simpson
C: Yarran, Curnow, Everitt
R: Warnock, Judd, Gibbs
HF: Murphy, Casboult, Menzel
FF: Walker, Jones, Buckley
Inter: Bell, Carrazzo, Cripps
S: Whiley.

Hendo down back.
Rowe to play 3rd tall down back or swing forward.
Walker to play as a forward.
Buckley as a small forward.
Whiley... cos why not.

Malthouse said Warnock probably wouldn't be available for the Essendon game. Might still come up. Not sure there is a pressing need to bring him in regardless.

In: Boekhurst, Buckley, Watson, Cripps, Graham, Jahsck, Walker, Warnock
Out: Tutt, Jones, Curnow, Bell, Smith, White (Inj), Ellard, Wood

Henderson to CHB, Levi to FF and Rowe to relief ruck, make some serious changes.

Round 2 Result – Carlton 9.8.62 lost to West Coast 20.11.131

Essendope TBC

So our Blues return to the MCG, after the mother of all shellackings by West Coast,to confront bitter rivals Essendope. The pressure is on Carlton to regroup and for the first time in the home & away season (albeit 3 rounds in) put together a 4 quarter effort. In the most recent clash between these two teams the game finished in a thrilling draw, with Carlton players failing to seize the opportunity to rush a behind which would have won the game. Matches between these teams over the last 5 seasons have either been thrillers or blowouts. There has been nothing in between.

Possible Changes

White looks like missing, which opens up an opportunity for Walker to return on the back of a 29 disposal game in the VFL. Match practice will be an issue, but there will be no question marks over his fitness, as along with Judd & Curnow, 1AW is one of the hardest workers at the club, even when restricted by injury.

Smith may get a rest after playing almost two full games. I’m thinking Buckley may come in as his replacement following his game in the VFL in which he kicked 2 goals. We are crying out for a small forward to kick goals & Buckley may be our best (only) option.

Cripps, if fit, comes in for Ellard. We certainly missed having him as part of our midfield rotation, virtually leaving us one short in the midfield.

Somehow I would like to get Whiley in the team, now that he has 2 VFL practice matches up his sleeve with returns of 21 & 20 disposals respectively. Tutt would probably be the one to miss should we go with this option.

Potential Match-ups

Rowe v Daniher – I’ve gone with this match up because of Daniher’s height, which would pose a problem for the shorter Jamison. Rowe has yet to show the form he displayed in the 2nd half of 2014 while Daniher has yet to really deliver on the hype which was generated following his TAC Cup year. Interestingly, Rowe’s first game as a defender in the VFL was against Daniher at Windy Hill in 2013. Daniher kicked 2 goals in the first 5 minutes of the game, a further goal in the 2nd quarter, but didn’t kick another one for the rest of the game, despite his team’s dominance, as Rowe tightened up on him.

Jamison v Hurley – Jamison is coming off a forgettable performance against Josh Kennedy. Hurley found plenty of the ball against the Swans, but did not trouble the scorers at all. Hurley has not shown himself himself to be a prolific goalkicker, but can be quite creative.

Hooker v Henderson – This is a match up the dopers would like. Hooker coming off his best season at Peptide Park up against a sadly out of form Henderson. Hopefully Hendo can get some good delivery (& sticky fingers) & hit the scoreboard.

Carlisle v Casboult – Again I’ve chosen this match-up as much on height/size as anything. Levi was our best forward against the Eagles & could have finished the game with 4 or 5 goals. He has kicked 4 goals against Essendope in the past, so I can see him being a handful for the EFC defence.

Everitt v Goddard – This would be the way I would go with the sooky one. Although Gibbs has beaten Goddard on a number of occasions in the past, he needs to be in our engine room rather than chasing Goddard. Everitt has the size, mobility & potential hurt factor as a goalkicker to get the better of Goddard.

Docherty v Chapman – History tells us Chapman is a goalkicker & therefore needs to have a quality player on him. Doc is in very good form at the moment & has the ability to hurt Chapman running the other way.

Walker v Cooney – Cooney spends a lot of time forward because of the limitations from his dodgy knees. Given his burst speed (he still has some) & upper body strength, 1AW strikes me as the best option for Cooney. He can also hurt Cooney with his run.

The midfields – Murphy, Gibbs, Judd, Cripps, Whiley, Carazzo, Curnow, Bell v Watson, Heppell, Zaharakis, Stanton, Cooney, Merrett, Melksham. No doubt there will be tags. I would go with Carrazzo on Heppell, with Carazzo niggling the crap out of the hairdresser’s nightmare. Curnow to Watson. You won’t totally stop Watson, but you need to minimise his impact. Ed did a good job against GAJ at Carrara in 2013 & has the aerobic capacity to stay with Watson for 4 quarters. Our midfield was overwhelmed by the Eagles, partially because of lack of enough quality rotations. Hopefully the addition of Cripps & Whiley will address this & give our forwards more opportunities than they have received in the first two rounds.

Who wins & why?
This is a chance for us to strike a blow against drug cheating. Every player in the competition should be hell bent on hammering the drug cheats at every opportunity. Malthouse has made it very clear what he thinks about what went on at Peptide Hill & the players should feel pissed off at having to play against those who have cheated. The best way to deal with cheats is to overwhelm them & send a message that results can be achieved without cheating. For this reason I believe the Blues will come to play & ultimately defeat the dopers by 6 goals.
can't believe they got away with the dope but optimist as i am for the Long run preview i dont know if they have what it Takes ...But i might be wrong considering i live in italy and i might be missing some information and stats regarding the clash.with soccorso its easier to rebuild..you Just need money

Pretty sure there wouldn't be anyone from the coaching staff or the playing group who is even giving any of this stuff a second thought leading into the game. I sure hope their focus is what they have to do on the field to win on the day.

Hasnt worked so far, maybe they should go in with these thoughts.

See this is what I mean, why are players like Armfield and Ellard still on our list, Warnock is a waste of salary cap space, Wood is another... I'd rather play Simmo in the ruck!! Get Graham in full time and a see what he's made of at afl level and same with Whiley...

Yeah. Although he went goalless.

Anyone go to the game? Pretty sure he plays up the ground...
I was there from 2nd qtr onwards he didn't do a great deal at all...intensity towards the ball was terrible and against under 18s you think he shud be able to have a bigger influence..was dissapointing

To me based on the game yesterday...walker, whiley, graham, Buckley or Byrne and cripps to come in
Outs: Ellard tutt curnow smith and white
B: docherty Jamison Byrne
Hb: touhy Rowe yarran
W: Simpson Gibbs Murphy
HF: walker casboult menzel
F: everitt Hendo jones
Fol: wood judd cripps
Int: whiley carrazzo bell
Sub: graham

I believe whiley and cripps in as we need more genuine ball winners..curnow is too negative for
Me and if we are getting smashed I don't see the point in tagging 3-4 players where we could be better off going head to head with their on ballers..walker is a gun so defs in...graham deserves a consistent run at this level to see if he can make that next step..we aren't going to go forward with players like Ellard who are stopping players developing at this level..Buckley or Byrne was a toss up both have speed and use the ball well I would even consider playing both but not sure who else to take out

If Watson was playing well which to me he isn't..I would play Watson forward and Hendo back and consider leaving Rowe out who seems to be lacking confidence or something from last year maybe due to being thrown around different positions all pre season

My changes for this week:

Hendo to CHB and leave him there
Yarran to Wing and leave him there

In:
Walker (Full Forward)
Whiley (Midfiled)
Bryne (Backlines)
Cripps (Midfield) was he dropped last week?

Also enough of this tagging BS look at the bulldogs they dont have 4 taggers they just wanna win the ball. If all you can do at AFL level is tag then your career is already doomed

That is a very good question, I haven't heard any suggestion he was injured (I may have missed it). Seems strange he would have been left out.

His back tightened up after training on Thursday. Don't know if it's a flight thing or if it was before that, but he was unavailable due to fitness, not form

You can't put a 209cm mid in economy..............Business class or nothing for Crippa :)

And I find the suggestion that Walker plays forward to just be ridiculous. We are falling over across half back with a lack of an attacking attitude and then skill by foot to be successful with that attitude. Attack and foot skills are what 1AW bring to the team, so he has to be where he's most important. If we can start moving the ball from half back to half forward with a bit of speed, then our forwards will have a lot more of an opportunity to do something.

Henderson needs to stay forward too, as he's actually a genuine forward that will kick multiple goals if he can get a good supply (i.e. when the midfield run the ball at him rather than chipping around the boundary and then bombing it in from the wing)

I hadn't heard that, thanks for the update Paulski19

Mick was the one that said that Walker will be playing forward.

Henderson does need to stay forward............throw him back and we've thrown the towel in.

When did he say that? I think it'd be a mistake. I don't think he's capable of sitting on players heads to mark the long bombed in high balls anymore...
