Pointing out Madgens defensive deficiencies is hardly blaming him directly for the loss. Everyone here is well aware of why we were overrun in the 4th. Madgen was a part of that reason though, and consistently makes the same mistakes every week.
Henry is cut some slack because he has a handful of games to his name, and should get better with more experience. Madge is experienced enough to know better than to make the basic defensive errors he constantly makes, which is why he cops so much criticism.

Btw, it’s hilarious that a forum nerd thinks he has a better grasp on game analysis than one of the best, if not the best coach of the past 20 years to not win a flag. Gave me a good laugh, so thx for that.

Funny, how’d Henry go tonight? Oh he was dropped. Only blatant mistake Magden has made in the few weeks was punching directly to the boundary tonight. He’ll watch the tape and learn (as 45 game player) to punch or tap to the group of 4 pies in front of him.

Otherwise, another quality performance from Madgen. Only someone with an agenda would say otherwise.

Also have a look at Henry’s stats compared to Elliot, Mihochek and Mcreery - especially his defensive efforts, disposal efficiency and contested possessions… on afl website hes below average.

Those other 3 fwds are above average to elite in those key statistical areas - and that’s why Henry got omitted.

They gave Henry 4 games to prove himself and he wasn’t good enough. He needs to improve. They can’t carry him in the fwd line when the other 3 defensive specialists in Mccreery, Mihochek and Elliot are out.

On the flip side - our coaching staff have a three time premiership CHB and 3 time assistant premiership coach amongst them (Lepitch) and a 45 gamer called Magden had had 5 games straight (even with Roughead coming in) I wonder why…

Who knows, maybe this week Madgen gets pushed out of the team. Bottom line, blaming goals or a loss on a defender who’s one out with a fwd when it’s the midfield and or fwds that failed to execute further up field is idiotic.

Thanks for the follow up Mr Madgen. I’m sure your son will do very well in the VFL this week. It’s his level after all.
Hahaha I’m not related to Magden.

I wish I was to be honest. He has zero talent but works his ass off and would die for collingwood.

You know who Magden is kinda like - a guy that was maligned at Melbourne for years. Never really made it but come to Collingwood and tried to play a role and gave his all.

Lyndon Dunn. Melbourne people ratted on Dunn. He came to Collingwood and was appreciated.

I think every game this year your seeing Magden improve. He’s 28 but only 45 games into his career.

What’s cost Collingwood 3 losses straight… I’ll say it again for those that don’t like hearing it … Midfeild and HF mental errors and inability to maximise ins50s. It not any individual in defence. The system holds up.

Our mids and fwds need to get 5-10% cleaner and your taking about being comfortably 5-0.

I didn’t accept this excuse under Buckley so I’ll be consistent and apply the same standard to McRae. It’s up to the coach to employ a style that creates more efficient opportunities and play personal that complements that. So far I haven’t seen that.

Fly is new so I don’t expect him to get everything right and I’ve seen plenty of positives but it doesn’t mean I won’t point out the negatives.
Just curios did you have this perspective of Buckley from game 1 in 2012? Cause if you did (I didn’t break free of the Buckley cult until 2015) you must have 9 seasons of just ripping our gameplan a new arseh*le under Buckley. In hindsight, from day one it was a shambles and undermined our players maximise their production.

All I see under Fly is a game-plan that gives our players a chance to win. It’s 5 games in ffs. He’s inherited an “aged” Buckley list (it finished 17th not 2nd like 2011) and none of this “critique” happened during the Buckley years.

People (including myself) got banned from this site for ripping Buckley a new arseh*le. It was ridiculous the young talent that was wasted under Buckley and most fans (until 2020-21) sat back and sucked Ed’s and Bucks’ dicks.

The Buckley era, the mismanagement of the cap to try to win a flag at all costs just to prove Malthouse wrong, it’s actually impeded Flys first few years of coaching. He’s got to replace 2 key defenders, at least 2 x mids and find a key fwd in his first few seasons.

Buckley inherited a brand new Ferrari and pissed it up against the wall. Fly is trying to rebuild that Ferrari - but only has limited parts and money to do so.

And if the mids and fwds delivered the team would be at least 4-1 if not 5-0.

I like what I see from Fly but that doesn’t mean I’ll ignore things he could do better. When Bucks started coaching I was about 14 so my football opinions weren’t as in depth or as developed. But I did spend a good amount of time being critical of Bucks on another account. So far I can see the upside Fly which isn’t something I could say for Buckley’s last 6 seasons.

Respect. We’ve found common ground on Buckley :)

So for that, I’ll be a bit more open minded about your critique on our game style or lack of execution of it.

I probably am a bit over the top with my defence of fly or how we play - mainly I think cause I lived the Buckley era. It was insanity. You couldn’t say the truth. Pies fans felt afraid to speak up. I don’t want to be one of those on here just shitting on people making valid points about our negatives.

And I’m aware of our negatives. They are there. I don’t deny it. Just don’t blame it on defenders.

When you push up the ground and try to live in your front half - your defence is disadvantaged. They get caught out on the turnover. Most of their defending becomes one on one. Previously under Buckley, we played from our defensive half and sling shot fwd which made for low scores and allowed people to think our defence was better than it was as we often had 12 plus back defending ins50.

Just I wish pies fans ripped Buckley from day 1 as much as they do Fly after 5 games. We’d have had a new coach a lot sooner had we not been blinded by the “Buckley Cult”.

Anyway, I’ll defend what I see fly is trying to achieve in the mid to long term. But yeah a lot of things to work on in the short term - which Fly admits in his pressers - and you should continue to point out

Yeah our 4th qtrs ain’t good. But it ain’t a fitness issue. It’s being young and making stupid decisions and our older players screwing up between the arcs

Called it.

It’s almost like good coaching (which Fly said focused on being better in the 4th) came threw tonight to stop the rot on poor 4th qtrs.

That’s what I want in a Collingwood Coach
