Round 3 trades

Can someone help a first timer out?
WRT trades and their value? I could easily trade any of barlow, rocky, seedsman. Looking at option to get in JJ, Hall or possible Zaha (POD).
No real "need" to trade as I can cover rocky and barlow may come good.
Guess my question is when should you be using trades and for what (as a general rule), and how many do you need in the bank for the pointy end of the year?
Any help appreciated

You can never had too many trades, but a few years ago it was 24 trades for the year so most seasoned veterans throw 30 around like confetti by comparison.

In reality the extra trades just give us all 6 more chances at doing something stupid.

So to answer your question, at the end of the year you'll probably regret making 'non essential' trades now... But don't worry too much, you'll probably feel that way no matter what you do.

A decent way of calculating is looking at your starting team (not bench) and whoever you are currently starting but dont want them in your 'final' team- allocate 2 trades.
Then allow for 6ish? trades for long term injuries / suspensions and see where you are at.

That's exactly the way I see it - I'm used to budgeting out 24 trades over one fewer round, so you can do up to 6 reasonably early without hamstringing yourself too much. And the earlier you do a trade the longer it has to earn your team points/cash. A trade done before the grand final is going to be worth a sum total of 30-80 points to your team. It could be a very important 30-80 points, but that's as much good as a Round 23 trade can do. A wise trade done this week can earn you hundreds of points and hundreds of thousands of dollars

Contemplating this trade also. Got lucky and selected every promising rookie (cash wise) thus far. The Rockliff trade is a no brainer but with Barlow I keep telling myself, "its not what they have scored, but their output from here on". I honestly see Barlow and JJ having similar scores from here on. Gotta love supercoach!

JJ a very popular IN this week. He's suited to this fast break NBA style game the Dogs like but I'd like to see him go against some quality teams before seriously considering him. Could end up being a burn man if he starts getting opposition tag.

I tend to agree. However I guess you could argue he has keeper potential. A lot of the Essendon players are likely to be eventually upgraded.

Papley and Libba. Have a feeling clubs are gonna put a fair bit of work into JJ. He'll still have a good year no doubt. Libba a safer bet and Papley will make plenty of $.
