that's a far too black and white perspective when looking at a complex game like AFL

i never said he was great vs the Tiges, but he denies the opposition the ball and delivers the ball to the players that are damaging, not to mention clearances, tackles, bailing out teammates and so on

you need an abundance of players with different strengths and weaknesses in a side. i mean he won a ******* brownlow. go watch his 2018 highlights. he came 2nd in our BnF last year coming off a horrible broken leg and playing with a bung shoulder.

seriously, just read this article, it explains his value far better than I ever could

Bolded could be a big part of the problem.

As long as TOB, Ollie and Howe are not in I’ll be happy. If this lot get games ..... if we can’t find better players then this lot the next piece silverware is a long way off!
Be prepared to be unhappy. Can’t see them dropping Howe after what Clarko said. And tob would have to be favoured to come in for ceglar.

I think O’Brien is perfectly suited to be the second ruck despite his deficiencies. He’s better at ground level once the ball hits the ground and a better marking option up forward than Ceglar.

If one was going off 'vibes', it would be Nash most likely.

Getting rated highly at Box Hill every week
Honestly, I love to see him play as a second ruck but if he comes in for ceglar that will mean Lewis has to ruck as I don’t think Nash has ever done it and senior footy isn’t usually the place to learn.

Good chance they omit Ceglar, rest Burgoyne - that allows O'Brien and Nash to come in. A prospect that will probably make a lot of people unhappy, but is at least interesting from a match-up point of view.

of course, there's flaws to his game like there is every player in the AFL, even Dusty. I feel like he is involved in a lot of our scoring chains too, especially in R1. As we've established, not so much vs Richmond or Geelong, but his 2nd half vs Essendon was the difference-maker

but his value is as an outlet and defensive relief, as well as superb contested ball-work and elite hands. i don't really think we need to make him into a player he isn't
Mitchel both pleases and frustrates me. He is a natural ball chaser, will keep hunting the ball. Thats good, but negative is every other player in the midfield has to adjust for this instinct, when he isnt the best to hunt, another player is, whereby he needs to take a secondary position, he doesnt have this balance right.
He positions himself for linkages, very well (one of the better readers in the competition), but will also call when he is the wrong option (if he is given the ball, not always his fault as the other player shouldnt give it to him), when in the immediate vicinity when opposition have the ball, he is very good defensively, but he is average when the ball is more than a couple of metres from himself defensively.
Like all players will have strengths and weaknesses, his strengths are elite. So a flawed genius.

Worpel should be the first out even if his defensive efforts have been off the charts as his disposal and offensive involvement in the game is sub standard.
Worpel has been very average in the 3 games this year, he’s kicking has been terrible, Cousins is a better kick and can kick a goal, Cousins should come in for Howe or Worpel

Can we please get some goals from our mids like other sides.

omeara Mitchell worpel shiels need to kick 12-15 goals each for the year.

Our forwards barely kick 12-15 goals a year.

I want to see Worpel play the Treloar/Macrae role in the side.
He's bloody quick and very strong. No reason he shouldn't be the player receiving the ball from Mitchell/O'Meara and starting transition from the stoppage.

The game is all about speed now if it ever wasn’t. Nash has to come in.
Yep. Other than maybe Finn he probably has the best speed/endurance mix of players outside the 22. This season is his last chance and game has moved in a direction that should help him.

We’re really missing a guys to link up with CJ and Impey when they burst off half back - most of our other guys are too slow to make position.

Good luck to any defence that has to counter CJ and Frost running at them and subsequently Nash sprinting back towards goal at pace.

You could probably count on at least a third of the kicks being shanked in that scenario. Just hope that some of the shanks go to a teammate like Jiath did to Wingard in the 4th on Monday

Other than one of them turning the ball over 🤣🤣
