Here's a hypothetical.

There's a Brisbane rookie who was priced at rock bottom $96k, has scored 65, 72 and 78 in his first three games and is now priced at $165k?* His job security is fairly good, and he has a DPP (mid/forward).

Would you consider trading him in as a cash cow?

This is pretty similar to what Sam Mayes is, except he is on the bubble at a more expensive starting price of $164.5k.

Would anyone now change their minds on trading him in this week?

Would you feel more comfortable to do this later on in the season due to lack of rookie choices?

And am I wrong to think of it in this way?

___
*I entered these scores into the tooserious.net stats site for a random $86k rookie and got a price of $165k after the third round score.

I just traded Viney -> Mayes.
Mayes is starting as F6 ahead of Neade, Macaffer or Dwyer. He will probably be the last rookie I upgrade if he can keep spitting out 70's..
Maybe going to trade Dwyer to Gawn (through Rowe [R/F] ) next week instead of Kerridge.

So i've gone Viney > Mayes (swapped Dwyer into the mids, Mayes now up forward).

Depending on teams being named tonight, if Matt Jones misses out then I will bring in Evans who is named on-ball for Melb.

I'll make 110k in that straight trade alone, but then Evans is due for a decent price jump.

Then next week will be:
Stevenson > Docherty (depending on how he goes, otherwise wait another week for Vlastiun)
Evans/Dwyer > Kerridge/Macrae (depending on how they go)

Then i'm done with my early trading as i have 24 trades left, so i'll pretend 24 is what i started with for the year just like 2012 (thats my justifaction about my little premature cash trades early)

Should i be going Stevenson out for Docherty this week? Was originally looking at doing it next week but if done this week it allows me to bring Buddy in for Neade next week as i will go Dwyer to Kerridge also? Should i complete the trade or sit tight? Other trade will be Viney to Mayes. If i sit tight with Stevenson this week, depending whether Jones can hold his spot i may go Jones to Evans as Cousin Tiger has stated, then doing a double downgrade next week, allowing me the week after to bring in Buddy for Neade and Shaw for Pittard with still cash left over if my calculations are correct? Thoughts on all this? I know its abit to take in...

I've got Hanley & Stevenson out this week so no Def emergency. Should I pull the trigger on Stevenson > Docherty a week early? (assuming Docherty makes the final 22) Not as much profit as I would like from the trade (only 107k) but it would leave me with around 400k in the bank for a double upgrade next week...thoughts?

Thinking the same thing myself Gingy. Only reason i haven't pulled the trigger yet is what happens if Docherty spuds it up this week and is dropped the following? Only a hyperthetical but could well happen.

Yeh, the thought had crossed my mind as well. He did play very well last week (as in well, better than a lot of his more senior team mates) and Vossy did say in his post match presser that they will persist with Mayes, Docherty, Paperone etc going forward. BUT this is Crazy Vossy we're talking about here, a couple of wins and he'll think they're a chance to play finals then dump youngsters for experienced senior types. Who knows, it's a risk but Doc has always been highly rated as far as rookie aged defenders go...

anybody considering Kane Cornes..
$580K averaging 140

Hinkley loves him, playing in the guts.. Has talked about how the new coach has reminded him about his love for the game.. playing inspired football.

Could be a very good POD with only 2% of teams having him.

Obviously need to factor in the soft draw early, but i'm actually considering him.

I'm thinking i'll bite the bullet and do the trade(If named in final 22 of course), get in some coin and prey the Doc has another good showing and holds his spot the following week. Doing this will allow Neade to become buddy next week instead of the week after

Soooo tempted to trade in SJ. Only averaging 86 from his 1st 2 games and has a B/E of 118 (according to SC Gold) but his record against the WB's is phenominal. Just can't shake the feeling that he will pump out a 150+ this week..

Code:
Opponent Venue Year Round Score
Western Bulldogs Etihad Stadium 2012 9 146
Western Bulldogs Simonds Stadium 2012 22 103
Western Bulldogs Simonds Stadium 2011 11 147

SJ break even is actually 138 - SC Gold is POOOOOOOOOOOO

Still, reckon he's a monty to make that B/E this week. Besides, he's not a player you bring in worrying that he might lose value. You bring him in because you think he will be a top 6-8 fwd keeper. Still very unique as well. Only 3.3% ownership...I don't know, that's why I'm putting it out there for comments/thoughts...I'm very tempted though

Has he actually had to tag anyone good yet? Unless he's no longer doing the tagging thing, as soon as he gets a gun, his score (and that gun's) will drop significantly.

Also, a lot of people already currently have 4 or more Port players in their starting teams. When the wheels fall off (and they will with a thud against quality opposition) peoples scores and rankings will plummet because they have to many Port players.

Cats have a tuff run after this week, rich, ess, coll, port in port... once he regains full fitness and touch he might be a luxury upgrade for me...

Hmmmm, I've always been a really stingy trader in SC, and my strategy has been to be cautious with my trades, even if it means taking some losses early.

But I've used 4 trades so far, and now I'm worrying over Crouch, Stevenson (port), Karnezis and Viney.

At this stage in the game, am I better of waiting for Crouch to recover, and save the trade?

I reckon Karn and Viney has to go first and maybe Stevenson next week.
Hold onto Crouch.

Wait and see if Greek Salad (Karnezis) gets a game this week, if he doesn't then its bye bye - Viney will be back next week you'd expect and once the 9 disappears from his 3 game score influence he will make more cash. Stevenson i'm not sure on - Port getting Cassisi and Robbie Gray back has made space tight at a rampaging Port
Crouch 3 weeks to return to fitness (not necessarily into the side). If i had to trade I'd ditch Crouch

I think that makes sense.

Depends if your desperate for points now or if you're looking for league wins etc.

I go for my cash league wins so at the moment i'm predicted to win the next few weeks therefore i don't mind doing 2 weeks of double downgrades.

Defiantely done Viney>Mayes.

Will wait on teams and potentially Jones>Evans (Jones should play but the quick 100k cash plus earnings tempts me from Evans).

Then Dwyer or Macaffer out (depending who plays) for Kerridge or any other downgrade target thats worthwhile.

Stevenson might be late inclusion (ideal scenario), and then bring in Docherty next week (pending he doesn't get injured or have an absolute stinker).

Upgraded Toumpas to Joel Selwood, still may cop a donut in the midfield with Kommer, Viney & Crouch.

Considering 1 more trade, either Chapman out or changing Viney to Mayes (mid/fwd flexibility could be useful).
