Ok who stole our posters and replaced them with you lot? I mean 34 posts in and no melts, no demands for changes or coach sackings, not really even a negative mentioned anywhere???

Not that I mind but it is kind of strange ... but probably the best comment (by its lack) on the all team performance this evening.

And I love having Bailey in the team 😁
Just to bring u back to reality.....I am a tad worried about Richy slowing up not just this game but all season. He played well with plenty of quality touches ....he just looked slower to react than normal. Also Berry and his peripheral vision is still a concern. Having said that a solid performance and loving Ah Chee's desire to be tough in the contest.

I know it might look like Rich is slowing up a bit Lazza but I think he's going to get better as the season rolls on.

Guys like him at his age don't get pushed too hard in the pre season ,it's generally a matter of getting them to the first game strong and injury free. Then they run themselves into fitness with game time. He's just a bit out of touch at the moment but not too far off.

Watching live it felt like a much closer game than the scoreboard would suggest and thought the Suns played quite well. Watching the presser post match and Fagan echoed similar thoughts. The Suns are in that 6-12th bracket and played very good football, yet we were on another level entirely. A very good game and further cemented our spot as a top two team in the league.

Yeah, I thought the scoreboard didn't really do justice to the Suns.

I might get canned for that comment but then game felt "alive" to me until we eventually took almost total control the last 15 minutes.

For the first time in years, I sat at close to ground level. In the GA Section and to the side of the goal posts at the Southern or "non open" end. Far from ideal viewing because it's really difficult to get depth perception, especially when the play is right down the other end. Nevertheless , you really get a feel for the intensity of the game and to me it was a keenly fought physical contest. There were one or two spats but I thought the game was played in good spirit and befitting of the occasion.

The Suns really brought everything they had and to our credit, so did we. and in the end more than matched them.

Our forwards were deadly in front of the sticks whereas the Suns wasted several chances to close the gap to a manageable level. I'm not going to say we were "fortunate" because I believe that disparity in shooting accuracy has more to do with the polish and maturity of our forwards than just "luck".

Zac is an absolute gem and has an uncanny knack of positioning himself to be able to seize on any semblance of a goal scoring opportunity.

The other fantastic thing about our forwards is that they can be quiet and look almost beaten for long periods of a match and then suddenly go on a tear and rack up the goals.

Linc, Joe and Charlie individually looked out of it at various stages but still managed to score 8.2 between them

Really good team effort to end up winning that convincingly.

For the Suns, if they bring that intensity for the rest of the season, I firmly believe they can do some real damage. We saw how they dismantled Carlton a couple of weeks ago. Teams will underestimate them at their peril.

It's a real shame they lost Ben King for the season because he absolutely would have brought another dimension to their forward structure.

On to Sydney away next week, which will present another challenge.

We can do it.

Go Lions

I thought Hugh was our best mid today. He gets knocked for his tackling but all game he stuck them and early on he was the one who helped us to get ahead IMO. Overall our defensive pressure was up all across the ground which was great to see. I'll put my hand up here as I have knocked him but I loved Charlies game today. He got on the end of a few but his pressure was awesome and also allowed us to score a few goals. Best game of his for awhile and hope to see it more consistently as well. Bring on the Swans.

Watching now - first quarter and our goal keeper was Charlie on a few occasions. It's easy too think he's not playing great some games, but he never stops moving and filling gaps. Does everything he can for the team.

And I love the way he puts players before everything.. Anyone on either team gets hurt or looks like they might have, and Charlie is there with a hand to help them up. Great role model for kids. Love the guy.

Really solid performance by all.

IMO that was the most complete game Rayner has played for the Lions so far and the "impact player" tag was true - His 20 disposals felt like 30+ in terms of how they influenced the game.

The only knock i have on Rayner's game right now is his propensity to spray it wide on relatively simple shots on goal.

Hopefully that will improve as his self belief builds. Often is still rushing his snaps at goal and looks nervous with set shots

We've to remember that ACL that wiped out all last season.

It will all come together with more confidence, match play and fitness

I'd definitely agree with the former, but I wouldn't go as far as the latter.

It felt like a solid three to four goal win, a bit like some of our early wins where we weren't truly challenged but the scoreboard was close enough to keep some of us on tenterhooks. Instead because we were so efficient the scoreboard showed it as a surprisingly easy win despite the guys actually having to work for it.

Did we see glimpses of Zorko pushing into the midfield after half time ?
When Lohmann came off and Prior came on, Zorko shifted forward into Lohmann's spot while Prior and Answerth alternated between Zorko's spot and the wing. Zorko started rotating through the middle a bit as well.

It was great to see Rayner have his most confident performance so far, on the same ground as he did his ACL.
Should give him more belief moving forward.
He is building into the year nicely.
3 shots on goal 20 possessions, a good day out. 👏

5 - 1

I believe this is our best start to a season since 2003 (and we all remember how that ended ).

Certainly feels like we're working our way into the season, and we'll have a few good tests over the coming month. Bit odd we play another 3 away games from the next 4 matches, but if we can come away from this patch 3-1 we'll have set ourselves up very nicely.

Exactly how I saw it. That's just great flexibility to have in a team.

I'm sorry to say, and I'm a huge fan of his but I don't think we missed Robbo out there Iast night. We looked more cohesive and flexible.

I didn't think O and Fort were that bad in the ruck. Thought they got first touch more often than not.

Much better combination down back with Kiddy back in the team. And again, it's only the 10th time Andrews, Gardiner and Adams have all played together. That combo will get better too. Our defensive 7 or 8 is really good.

Bad luck for Lohmann, was really trying to get more involved. Hope it's not long term. I wouldn't be replacing him with Robbo or Cockatoo for next week v Swans. I haven't looked at the vfl result yet but if Tom Berry had another decent game I'd be bringing him in. Swans are a quick, young, attacking team, could certainly use his speed, agility and tackling.

Showed good signs the team is starting to gel. The midfield ran much better, both ways with purpose. Berry, Rayner, Answerth, getting better n better the more they play. Won't be as easy next week, and the Suns banged in all night, so will have to be better again next week. Looking fwd to it, I think we will be.

Look out for the rest of the competition if Rayner can start producing those performances on a weekly basis. Bailey has taken his game to another level and I'm hoping Rayner does too. What a potential forward line - TALLS - Daniher - McStay - Hipwood and Big O or Fort can rest down there. SMALLS - Cameron - McCarthy - Bailey - Rayner. That's 8 options. Fingers crossed no injuries. For all those in the football World saying Melbourne can't be beat. Think again.
