Autopsy Round 6, 2023: Carlton v St.Kilda

Clint Jones was a bad kick but under Ross he improved to be a decent kick, he was never a great kick but he improved to hit a target most of the time.

Ross backing him in was a big part of that.

When I was walking out this old Carlton nuffy was saying to his kid they are giving us a false sense of security. I looked at him and laughed and said good onya champ. He then told me we didn't beat them today and that they beat themselves. I told him even with the umps giving them oral pleasure we still beat them comfortably whilst laughing and walked off. Morons

He was right though, they did beat themselves because we didn't let them beat us!

That team has so much talent, but is completely cut off at the knees by the board and the coach....they are just woeful and may it continue forever.

Looking at the Supercoach scores for this game, Carlton had 6 players that scored tons but then they dropped off pretty sharply after that.

We only had two players that scored tons, Sinclair and Owens, but we had a lot of guys in the 70s, 80s and 90s, we had a much more even contribution.

That is how you win games and premierships with an even spread of talent and performance, not half a dozen doing the bulk and the rest passengers.
Except when rich won 3 with one superstar .
We used to be just bland but now we have a great mix and including future stars as well . Plenty to be excited about .

Dusty?

We don't have a Dustin Martin on our list yet but we have some youngsters like Owens, Windhager and Phillipou that could get to that level.

Watching the presser and Ross saying we put the muzzle on in the last quarter. "We could have let them (us that is...meaning our players) go but we pulled in the reins" or words to that effect.

16:53 left in the last quarter and both teams score 2 more points each. A coaching group in total control. That's the bit I'm loving.

Oh and his answer for the last, last question about Brad Hill was total class too.

Pretty much.

You know how clubs who make finals get shit clubs to trade second round picks for okay but not great footballers?

I feel like that could be us soon

Ross seems to have control over the whole game, we kept it close for the first half, went hard for the 3rd quarter to get a lead and then shut it down.

Ross was just toying with Voss for the whole game.

The only thing that stuffed up Rossy's plans were the umpires.

The umpires were deadset cheating for Carlton in the first half and Ross was going off his block like we all were.

Can’t wait to see how much space Max will get in the forward line on the counter.

You think the coaches will have a good plan in place. Poor kid spent the past 4 years having the ball dumped on his head.

Just watched the game again, Byrnes was bloody brilliant. Can’t believe I’m even saying that!

Fantastic 4 quarter effort. We were dominant in that 2nd quarter i felt but the umpires just kept them in it.

A great win and very very satisfying.

Amazing how confidence then feeds into goalkicking - previous years we missed so many easy shots and then this year they're all going through - maybe a chicken and egg question tbh

Who do you feel would be the benchmark team to beat??
A lot consider it to be Collingwood and we went very close there.
I’ll be taking the lid off if we beat Geelong and Sydney.
I know Geelong didn’t start off too well and Sydney copped an absolute pizzling on the weekend but if we beat or go close to those two I’ll be a bit more of a cocky campaigner than I already am.

Melbourne.

If we beat them then we are a genuine contender.
