Beating the Bulldogs yesterday and almost beating Essendon last week suggests otherwise, that game in NZ was an aberration.



Well part of the reason the better teams get better treatment from the umpires is that they are better skilled so give away less frees and earn more frees but there is also the fact that the umpires favour the better teams because they are expected to win.

You often notice if a lowly team is beating a good team that the umpires do everything in their power to help the good team get back in front. That happened in our upset win over Freo last year, we got the jump on Freo early and the umpires thought "Oh shit this isn't right" and paid a bunch of soft frees to Freo to try and get them back in front but when our lead got so big they couldn't influence the result they started umpiring normally.

The umpiring was pretty good in our game against Essendon, the rest of our games this year they have been terrible.
