What Brisbane did to Melbourne last night, is what we need to do with Port next weekend.
Take down one of the form sides and contenders this season and have a statement win, and get back into the season in a big way....
They played well.
Having Daniher and Hipwood motoring to minimise the intercepting of May and Lever is the way to play against Melbourne.

We need to do a similar thing.
Checkers generally does it anyway, but Reef, with his speed off the mark, could do it too.
If we have those two plus Little Billy timing leads into space, we would be a lot better entering F50, instead of bombing it long in hope.
That hasn't worked so far because Cox hasn't played well and generally crappy disposal - maybe we could just use him as a decoy and kick to one of the above 3 instead.

Brisbane controlled the tempo of the game well too.

Why jump straight to the conclusion that Fin comes in for Pendles? He has shown nothing to date at AFL level in his four seasons on our list and has certainly not seized his opportunities, however limited they may have been. He’s slow and a poor user, with no X-factor. Time to see what others have got, starting with Sullivan, Bytel, Allan and eventually DiMattia.

He is not slow ( same pace as Sidey), he has great hands - eg that great handball to set up McCreery, against Bribance.
He is great on both sides and excellent reader of taps.
In the last game he went to 6 centre bounces and won 2.
So frankly I’m not sure you’ve watched him enough.

We beat one of the current “form” teams at their home deck 2 weeks ago 😄

Realistically, you make a good point, and many of us would like to see Fin passed over and someone else tapped on the the shoulder instead - maybe Sullivan given he has been acquired as a ready made replacement for the mids. Allan looks too laconic, has lacked intensity, hasn't banged the door down in the VFL - not quite sure how to put it. Bytel is not coming in. But though Fin seems like too much of a known quantity, ignoring him would not be easy for the selectors. He has really got to be given a chance to prove he is not up to the job, then with any luck, pleasantly surprise us all with a game played at a level above our expectations.

A big factor in Brisbane winning was this

IMG_0170.jpeg

They controlled the game, chipped through melbournes zone and in doing so avoided bombing long to may and lever.

it’s always been an obvious thing against zoning teams. And as supporter watching it’s frustrating watching your team just giving up 100m by guarding grass and watching short kicks

Cox needs to go
The flaky crepe paper efforts last week beyond a joke

Out cox Pendles
Ins dependant on vfl form Sunday
The only person that could replace cox is frampton, and he ain’t moving

Begg is not an afl level ruck and gets soundly beaten by VFL rucks. Steene hasn’t played any footy (not ready anyway). That leaves Johnson…

If mcstay was playing he could chop out, but atm reef or checkers certainly can’t

Yes, demanding someone's omission seems so easy till you look at how to replace him. There's nobody - we' be robbing the side of a tall who could potentially prop himself in the forward line, maybe even take a mark, kick a goal or knock the ball down to the ground, or into the arms of one of our plethora of smalls. Imagine the uproar if Begg and Fin were the inclusions, two players yet to grab a VFL game by the neck and give it a good shake. Cox, however hopeless he may have been, stays.

That's what I meant about controlling the tempo - they were patient, and waited until they had a good option inside F50, rather than just blazing away.
That's something they've fixed since they played us.

With the Dees defence - the big issue isn't inside 50 - it's them dominating down the line contests so that it doesn't get inside 50. It's how you move it from defence that matters. Their mids win the stoppage and get it forward and then May, Lever and Gawn lock it in. I haven't seen any stats on it, but would be confident that their time in forward half stats would be league best over the last few years.

Sharp as ever, I just realised we are not playing this weekend. I never bothered to look at the date of our game - just the day. Wondering why no team has been announced, rather than berate everyone in here for not posting the team, I've gone off searching for it, thinking of all the likes I will be awarded for posting it. To think that I was arranging my weekend to fit like a finely tailored coat around the game! Now I am all dressed up, but with nowhere to go.

I'm a bit confused. How do the defenders lock it in the forward 50. Do you mean that they stand just outside 50 and wait for any rushed kicks

What you talking about Manic.

Their mids get it inside 50. Their defenders push up and defend down the line kicks so well that stays up their end for a lot of the game. They squeeze the hell out of teams with repeat entries if you can't work out how to get through them.

They also waste 90% of them bombing it to c grade KPF 😂. They’d kill for Jackson now and whilst they got picks, like us they kinda need them now, not later to make the most out of Gawn, may and co, their entire game is very reliant on those two

With 5 day break between port and anzac day. Wonder if they'll rest pendles, given his broken ribs too.
Was thinking the same thing as much as we need him for he leadership it might be the thing to do, i was thinking it might have been their plan anyway as have been resting Mitchell, Sidey and WHE.

As much as I agree with the sentiment, both Brisbane and Melbourne are contenders. Whoever won that game was going to make a statement

Yeah I’d be inclined to give Sullivan a go if he performs well this weekend
