From the misses.
Pickett is great, has elite pressure inside 50, kicks snags for fun i swear his xfactor is unreal and he gets their team up and about alot. His run and dash is really good aswell. Good kick for goal.
Sparrow is a very underrated player, very versatile, doesn't have alot of weaknesses and very team orientated in the way he plays, which suits a great team like the Dees (or premiership/dynasty sides.)
And Jackson who is just a very good talented 2nd ruck who would've torched Conor Nash. And glad he isn't playing because otherwise it'd be alot worse than already Gawn v Lynch. Just an elite athlete, jumps around the ground all day long, good tap ruck, good forward, smart player and yeah good.

Apparently Petracca pulled up sore late in the Richmond game, wasn't training today and is a chance to either miss or play sore.

Good to know you don't just warble hyperbole about Hawthorn players, Dom.

thinking about going - sucker for punishment- this is a replacement game can we just rock up and get it or we need a ticket as they want to charge me for it???

Gave myself a little time to digest the game before posting back on the board which is always a good choice.

The last quarter collapse was woeful and I think it goes to show two things -

1. We played better football with worse players that were more match ready and fit. Over the past couple of weeks we've brought in Day, Wingard, Impey and Lynch after injuries or interrupted pre-seasons and we've lost that ability to run out games that we started the season with.

2. Giving younger players a spot in the team at the expense of more experienced players is fine, but in the case of players who are continuing to perform poorly like Worpel, it's an issue. I'd rather Shiels play. I have more faith in Shiels tenacity to the very end.

At their best, players like Day, Wingard and Impey are upgrades on the players that they're replacing, but in the short term we get situations like the one against Sydney. A team that just runs over the top of you.

Never underestimate the loss of that athleticism and running power on the team - Lewis, who has become a great high work rate tall forward, McEvoy who is one of our best runners and CJ who is arguably our best runner. All significant outs particularly as the game drags on.

Against Melbourne, I'd make these changes:

Worpel - Shiels
Impey - Bramble
Kosi - Lewis (if fit)

I'd also consider resting MacDonald and bringing in Long.

Worpel's position is untenable, he can't spend significant time on ground, he can't play different roles and his output and effort is far too inconsistent. I know what I get from Shiels, and that leadership is useful for the amount of kids we've got in the side.

Impey's speed isn't there yet, he's not playing good football because that was his major advantage - his endurance was never great. Bramble is underdone as well, but his endurance base is significantly better than Impey's - and one of the best on our list.

Kosi just looks out of place trying to work in a structured forward line, despite kicking 3. We targeted him plenty and he couldn't take more advantage. Lewis, if fit, offers a lot more.

MacDonald hasn't been playing horribly but he hasn't been able to spend significant time on ground and his output is dwindling. I expect him to return to the team sooner than later, but it might be a good opportunity to get Long in as a player who can really use his endurance, play through the midfield and rest forward with his height advantage.
We will see a debutant this week, tall athletic.

There’s always the chance we pull off the impossible and win. Those are the best games to go to IMO.

Has to be Callow.

Lynch needs help in the ruck and Nash/Kosi are not the answer.

If you look at that last quarter against Swans, Ladhams and co just gave the other Swans first touch of the ball from the bounce and it was all one way traffic from there.

Didn't know where else to post this. 20 years ago on this day:

Was there that day and remember vividly that shimmy on the wing to set up Crawford. The whole hawks crowd contingent let out this simultaneous clap knowing we had something special.

My final changes would be..

In: Callow Long Bramble
Out: Worpel (omitted) Ward (rested) Shiels (sub)
Impey to start as sub.

Would like to see Bramble and Finn to start on the wings, one of them needs to go with langdon
