As if he would say any different.

Same with Phillipou- ask him how he's feeling and I'm sure he'd say "fresh as a daisy, 110%, could run a marathon a week"

Noone wants to miss a game- but for the longer term good (ie finals), it could well be worth doing some targeted player management imo.
In the rooms after a good team win.

The question wasn’t did you come back to early. They asked if he felt sore and he said he wasn’t.

Go listen to it.

As if he would say any different.

Steele was looking hobbled during preseason and before his collarbone too.
He's come back in now and is clearly still hampered one way or another.
His performance on field says more than the words from his mouth.

And the club will do that if needed
Neither Steele or Pou will miss this week because they don’t need to

We are in trouble if the club is thinking about finals with 17 games to go. We saw how quickly things turned last year. Focus should be the next game and that's it.

You don't think we are managing our players? We had Marshall sub off two weeks ago to preserve him, he also gets additional breaks during the week. This is just one example of how the coaches are managing workload.

Not to mention Ross gives the entire group 2 days off after every game, which most clubs don't.

A mate and I made a lot of trips to Launceston way back when we played there and watched Port beat us every time. We discussed whether we'd go back for another major disappointment, always did and we always lost. Maybe a stats person can bring up our record in Lonnie against Port and show we won but I can only remember bitter disappointment.

We owe them big time for years to come!!

Just grabbed a pack of Ross Lyons. Winner are grinners

Steele will only get better from that game - just listening to Stocker talk - the belief in these players is huge , guys like Wood , Bryne , Milera , Hill , Battle , Higgins , Butler have all looked as though they have stepped up a gear with more to go.

Fairly confident of winning this one despite us having a shorter break than Port.

I imagine our players will be having a light week on the track and mostly just focusing on recovery to try and get them up and about for Friday night.

Can't see there being too many changes if any at all but Billings might be a chance of playing even if it's just as the sub, I think he could be quite dangerous if we threw him forward as a fresh sub in the 2nd half.

No Jonas Georgiades Marshall and potentially Charlie Dixon.

Even if the last one plays.

We need to beat these clowns.

We might actually be closer to full strength than them or at least on a par with them which would be a nice change, every other team we have played so far has been closer to full strength than us.

Exactly.

Why are we playing our clearly undercooked star captain 3 weeks after a carcrash of a collarbone?

Especially when we have bytel as a like for like tearing up the magoos
Because as good as we may look right now on top of the ladder, we would have known how important that win was going to be to set up our season.

We rolled the dice and got through. He's got through his 4 weeks now so there shouldn't be any reason why he can't play next week.

Great to see Bytel finally hitting some straps in the VFL but he's no Steele

Cordy is the new Eddy
Cordy has been good for us but not only was he average last night, but structurally we don't need him and I would want us to go for more run.

And Steele could've said yes I am a little sore after the first game back .
He didn't

Just because someone on the internet gets it in their head that they need to build a straw man and say because Steele was rusty and a bit off the pace, he is obviously underdone, sore and should be dropped, doesn't make it true.

Was asked to do a job in the second half and did it very well.

+ I don't think he took 1 center bounce, so the chopout reason is out the window that has been used for 5 weeks. Owens has taken that from him.

Ross does have his roles but I don't think Cordy's role is one that cannot be emulated or expanded by someone that can get more of the ball and cover more ground. It's not like Cordy is this elite bloke and is the only one that can fill the spot competently.

We have played with 2 tall forwards all season.

Caminiti/Cordy

Membrey/Cordy

Caminiti is still suspended. Who knows about king. But I can’t see us dumping Cordy

Agreed mate and now with Membrey back Cordy's role becomes even more replaceable

An interesting post from an oppo board:

Today I went to the game with a friend, who has a friend that has a son playing for St Kilda (Played today). And they caught up last week, small info he shared from the son. Ratts used to speak to the players a bit flustered when things weren't going well. ‘It's like at the quarter time huddles he wasn't sure what he wanted the players to do, because he would jump all over the place with what he would tell them’. Which the players were obviously annoyed by.
Said that Ross is super clear and always calm when the heat is on, and basically thinks he is a genius coach. And has all the players behind him.
This player is only 3 years into his AFL career, but it was interesting hearing how quickly a team can sour to a coach. Only the players second AFL coach, so his experience with them is less than others

Ratts had NFI. So good to have a calm level headed coach that has total by in.

I’m thinking the player could be Byrnes?

That’s got to be Ryan Byrnes, who has a great football brain himself.

Opening myself up to be corrected here because I'm gonna use my memory but aside from taking a taller defender I don't believe Cordy has done much else for the "play tall" role.

Most I50 marks have been on a lead or open off turnover
Not many/if any marks in large packs
Havent seen him crash packs like Caminiti or Pou
and now reduced chopout role
+ limited minutes TOG a few weeks in a row - if the structure was that dependent he would be on the ground more

I don't see Ross dumping him either tbh, but just my opinion that we could viably do it and be better, nothing against the man himself

Thought Roo was a bit OTT saying he was sad that players wouldn't have the chance to be coached by RTB if he never coached again. Hmm Roo has drunk the kool aide thought I.

Seems he was totally correct. 6 points down with 30 seconds to go, a probable free to Owens is let go 35 out from the Collingwood goal, pans to Roos who is laughing with Enright. Couldn't give a f**k, so relaxed about where he sits. This is the new Ross, one where he involves the whole list by using the coaches and him being the big picture manager.

it is obvious each and every player has bought in. Helps when you are a Phillipou and you have experienced 5 wins in 6 games, but older players like Wood and others from different environments like Stocker just seem to love him. Doesn't seem to be just words either, as actions speak louder than words.
I am struggling to name one player who hasn't improved this year. Maybe and this is a strech, Windhager but that is pretty harsh. We have players in career best form, Wilkie, Sinclair, Wood, Stocker, Crouch, Ross, best form of their careers, Hill the player we always wanted, Butler and Higgins playing the way we want from small forwards. It is pretty unbelievable actually.

None of that is all that surprising to hear, you only need to look at the difference between Ross and Ratten in the coaches box, Ross is usually quite calm while Ratten often looked flustered and at times last year he didn't look well at all especially when our season went off the rails after the halfway mark.

Cordy's role is as a senior, large (ish) body in the forward line. If people think he does nothing, imagine our forward line consisting of nothing but teenagers and short people!! Most spectators follow the ball at a game of footy, but a large chunk of a forwards work is done while the ball is still two kicks away. Trying to get separation, create space and provide a block for a team-mate to get separation is part of the deal, and we have scraped through thanks to Cordy, while our two regular key forwards have been on the sidelines.
