The Swans to stay the same, replace injured players and go back to basics. Oh woe is me is boring. They got beaten by a better team on Saturday, I do not care that we did not have Goodes, he is out for weeks. Get on with it, kneejerk reactions help nobody except the supporters who want something tangible to change. Accept the fact that Goodes is an exceptional player, you cannot replace him, so do not try, ask your players to find something for each to take their own game to a new level and play like a team.

We were averaging over 100 points a game coming into the tigers. On the weekend we kicked just eight goals. It beggars the question...
Who will kick our goals without goodes, and are we screwed without him?

Swans not much Goodes without Adam and it shows on the scoreboard.

There are players who should be stepping up during Adams' absence, shamefully they're just not up to it. It's time for some tough decision making by Horse and the MC.

We'll win this game (DERRR !) and should win by 10+ goals but if'n we play like we did v Tiges, then the 4pts are no gimme.

Some of the posters on here have short memories.

We kicked 17 goals without Goodes against North just after they smashed Geelong.
Goals come from defense when high pressure creates turnovers, otherwise the opposite can happen.
Refer to our first Qs against Hawthorn, Adelaide & Richmond when we were soft at the ball & didn't follow the game plan that we have proven wins us games.

If you remove those first Qs from our record, we'd be undefeated & on top with a very healthy percentage so we just need to fix our mindset from the word go & not when we get to 5 or 6 goals behind.

Well said.
Our midfield got smashed - yet so many here blame our forwards when they got zero quality ball OR our backmen when they were being peppered by good delivery.

Simple solution. Midfield wins contested ball. we win.

Watching the Saints demolition of Carlton last night I couldn't help but think they played the game plan we'd have liked to have played against Richmond. Their pressure game was nothing short of fantastic. It halted Carlton's run and spread outside game and caused repeated goals through turnovers. Of course the Saints possess a potent forward line which was able to capitalise on their opportunities but, though they had some standout players such as Lenny Hayes (vintage), their contribution was very even across the board. Good game from the 'Steak Knives' ex-Swan too.

One thing also that stood out was their ability to hit targets. Though they didn't have the leg speed of Carlton they were often able to get the ball in fast via foot. When that didn't work they chipped around waiting for an opening or set it up high for their tall forwards to compete. If the ball spilt their forward pressure gave them every chance of locking the ball in until a score could be produced.

Should be compulsory viewing for our team. If we can produce a similar game (and we can with our without Goodes) we can take down any team.

Apologies (esp. Bedford) for giving the Saints a good rap but any team that takes down Carlton is in my good books.

Have another read of my post, chief. I was posing a question, not making a statement.

Interviewed comin g off the ground, Ray intimated that added leg speed was responsible in a big way for the Aints improvement. We have lost 2 of our quickest in Goodes and Gaz, and need to look for speed, I'm pushing the Harry bandwagon, probably at Everitt's expense. Yd think Seaby would be getting beter after a few senior games and be up to speed, but the role of teh ruckman has changed post sub rule and they have to carry more workload and be more mobile, Seaby can do neither, or at least looks that way. Maybe Pyke and LRT to do the ruck work and surely TDL must get a game. Having said that, we have to be better in the midfield and contested ball than we were against Richmond, better on the spread too. We won't learn much playing melbourne though, take out Clarke and our ressies might beat them

The last time Reid kicked a goal for us was round 3 against Port Adelaide. Since then we have played North Melbourne, Hawthorn, Adelaide and Richmond and in those 4 matches Reid has not kicked a single goal.

You think the fact that he's a 20 year old with one person locking him up at the contest and one either standing in his leading space and coming back with the flight or coming over the top has anything to do with it?

Seriously, if Reid goes out for form reasons, do people think the defenders that have been assigned to mark him are going to disappear and any other match ups will stay exactly the same? Fair enough if you want Reid out for form, but what do you want to do as a consequence of that?

No apologies needed B, they were very good and showed how soft and badly coached the Blues are.
Not at any stage did any carlton player have a go at that parasite in Jones, he did a good job on Murphy, but he got away with murder.

... need to look for speed....probably at Everitt's expense

See that's what we call an oxymoron. Everitt is one of the pacier players in our team.

Plays the wing better than as a pure forward IMO and can pinpoint a player inside 50 at pace. Still a ways to go but he's developing OK for a young tall. Has shown he can be good defensively when he puts his mind to it. Could have had 3 goals on Saturday but it will come. With Rohan out he needs to seize his chance to impress.

Had to laugh at the way the Rat got stuck into the Blues every time he goaled. He's a little bastard but don't mind him sticking it to Carlton

Bastards !

Coming 'round asking for the footy score. I'd have told them to get their own telly.

Its crap as the collar is different, why say that its the same when its not. Still looks good though and should be worn in all Melbourne games.

100% agree they need to have the red collar on there or at least depict a collar. The jumper for sale on the website has the red collar at the back which is an improvement but it doesn't come around to the front in the guise of a collar if they don't want players wearing one with a collar these days.

It does look great but the collar would really compliment it and be a real nod to the early Sydney days.

Hoping for full red socks but I doubt it especially against Melbourne.

Still to see the red V is bloody exciting can't wait to watch on Saturday.
