Big O's ruck game has gone backwards. Fort got us going in the third quarter, he was the catalyst to our better play later in the game. He gives us drive and pressure around the ball. I'm a bit worried about Oscar.
I'll agree with you that Oscar's ruckwork has not been good this year . Even though he got a hand on the ball first many times last night it wasn't beneficial.

The expectation is that he will get better as the year goes on and that's how we've managed his prep. this season with Fort on hand for the first half. Fort has more than provided decent backup so far. If we had to go for one in a big game I'd go Oscar.

Oscar has 18 hitouts to advantage last night. It might not have looked amazing live, but that's insanely high - it's the fourth highest of the year so far. You can credit some of that to Neale and Zorko working to the ball, but if it wasn't for Oscar putting it into space for them to run on to they wouldn't have even had the chance.

My biggest concern with Oscar is that sometimes he lacks in awareness and touch with his hit outs. There were many occasions last night where he got the clear hit out but he seems to hit the ball to a position where there are no Lions players.
There was one last night where he hit the ball 30m back towards the Adelaide goal and it completely disadvantages us.
And others where we have a spare on one side of the ruck and he will deliberately hit to their spare on the other side of the ruck.
It just appears a complete lack of awareness to me.
There are some players who always go into a contest aware of what is around him and other that don’t.

A big positive this year for us is the form of Neale. He seems to have an increased hunger/appetite to force himself to get the pill and to use it to advantage. My memory of his time here at the Lions is a serious on field demeanour and not quite one of the lads but this year he is seemingly enjoying his footy and his team mates especially demonstrable in the goal celebrations of others. Good to see that smile and his tireless inspirational play which lends to worthy consideration for the role of Captain once Zorks stands down.

He has said before that he never enjoyed the wins the way he knows he should because he was always more concerned with his own performance and chastising himself over little things in game or if he was tagged out of it.
It looks like he is on top of that now and seems to really be enjoying his footy and the teams performances and enjoying winning.

That's so true. He is improving to the stage where he can be competitive enough to get first looks often enough. Where it goes is anyone's guess and that's where he needs to take the next step.

He is good at bullocking the ball forward on his own either off the ground or getting his body behind the ball and forcing it forward with a kick or looping handball.

Big O vs Fort.. I like having both as they different type of rucks. Cannot fault either effort.
No idea how we keep both when Dan and Joe back. Would like to
You assume with Joes shoulder he might not be rucking as much when back. So we might have to fit them in

Fagan said in a Q&A last week that all 5 talls can't play in the same side as it would upset the balance of the side too much.

Adams is in the frame for AA. Not sure Starc is quite there yet.

One thing I really like about Adams apart from his obvious talents is that when he stuffs up with an errant kick or handball he doesn't go into his shell and goes even harder at the next contest, still prepared to take reasonable risks. If he can get those little disposal blips out of his game he's going to be some player.

It's a great luxury for us to say Adams is our best defender considering we have Andrews in the lineup.
In fact when I look at our power all over the field we're in it up to our ears this year. If Melbourne didn't exist we'd be red hot favourites.

If you looked at where we could improve it's in the ruck and the midfield obviously enough. Neale is just a freakish player of incredible skill and football smarts who carries us at times so far this year . Fingers crossed he stays fit and healthy.

Didn't give up on Joe rucking though? We'll need to play Oscar and Fort.......and Hippy and McStay and Joe

Doesn't seem very balanced to me.

I heard he also said have to see.
If Joe does come back and does not ruck much to save the shoulder..
Who do we use as second ruck? McStay for centre bounches? Or does Big O ruck 100%

If that's snark it's not necessary since someone posed a question and I gave an answer.
Not snark at all, you just didn't list the metrics you used so I was taking it at face value. KPD is traditionally a tougher role to rack up stats in than almost any other.

It looks like he's carrying an injury it might be beneficial to give him a rest when joe and mcstay come back in the side.

Only one team out of 18 wins the flag each year. If that is your only measurement of success as a fan then you are going to be mathematically miserable on average 94.4 percent of the time.

Considering what a national joke we were 5-6 years ago, I worry about the inability of some people to derive some measure of satisfaction and happiness from us being, at the least, a very good football team.

Those people might need to consider if supporting a football team is the best thing for their health and well-being.

After Essendon won the Flag in 2000 with that freak one loss season, they made a pact NOT to sing their club song for H & A wins in 2001 or any other Finals win except after they won the 2001 GF, which they assumed was their God-given right.

Shock, horror, they not only got rolled by us in the famous "if it bleeds we can kill it" game in Round 10 but we also knocked them off in the GF

So they went through 2001, winning 17 H&A games and two Finals without once singing their club song.

What a load of claptrap that arrogant stance turned out to be.

No wonder Hird gave one of the worst, most sulky and self pitying Loser's speeches of all time after that GF.

Yes, always celebrate your team being good, bellow out the Club song after every win and if the stars align and you win a Flag then go crazy.

My goodness, even if we don't win another Flag in my lifetime, I will be forever grateful for how the club has provided me with so much pride and joy after we rose from the ashes from those dark and depressing years from 2011 through to 2017, where we were an irrelevant laughing stock.

We've gone from being a club where players with big egos wanted out, to a club where the likes of Neale, Cameron ,Daniher and McCarthy wanted in.

And high end draft picks like Rayner, McCluggage, Bailey and J Berry sign up again for at least two years and cast offs like MRobbo, Lyons and Ah Chee become better versions of themselves than they were at their previous clubs. And we have some serious home grown talent like Andrews, Hipwood, Coleman, Payne and our magnificent captain Dane Zorko who couldn't get on an AFL list until we decided he wasn't too short to play at the level.

I sincerely hope we get to the GF this year and win the bloody thing.

If not, we go again.

Go Lions!!!!

I suppose it shouldn't be a surprise given how much work he has probably put into his rehab, but Eric looked really confident in his movement which was good to see.

The telecast spent an inordinate amount of time focusing on J Berry last night which was weird.
