1st vs 4th this week and should have an impact on how the top 4 pans out. If we win Geelong will drop back to second and we will either jump the Bombers (if they lose to the Tigers) or sit pretty at 4. Meanwhile if we lose the Cats will hold their lead over Collingwood at the top of the table, Essendon will remain 3rd (unless they lose horribly) and Hawthorn is a shot to jump us if they beat the Swans at the SCG (probably won't happen)
Form:
Carlton: D W W W B
Geelong: W W B W W
The Cats come in undefeated and their latest scalp is the reigning premier. Carlton come in with a run of close games none decided by more than 20 points. The Cats are a team who can hold a winning streak, and it seems unlikely they will come in overconfident. The Blues on the other hand have had to fight for every win and have had to accept some negatives in every victory, in particular not being able to string together 4 quarters of high quality football.

Possible Teams
Geelong:
B: J.Hunt, Scarlett, Lonergan
HB: Enright, Taylor, Mackie
C: Wojcinski, Kelly, Corey
HF: Johnson, Podsiadly, Chapman
F: Stokes, Hawkins, Menzel
R: Ottens, Selwood, Bartel
I/C: Ling, Varcoe, Christensen, Milburn
In: Milburn
Out: Duncan
Presuming Ling is fine otherwise he will miss
Carlton:
B: Yarran Jamison Duigan
HB: Russell White Scotland
C: Simpson Mclean Gibbs
HF: Robinson Waite Gartlett
F: Betts O'halpin Walker
R:Warnock Judd Murphy
I/C: Carazzo, Laidler, Armfield, Ellard
In: Mclean, Laidler, White
Out: Curnow, Joseph, Thornton
Milburn returns for the Cats and should significantly improve their defence with his ability to zone off and attack.
Meanwhile, Curnow misses due to injury (Shoulder) Joseph and Thornton omitted due to the availability of better options in White and Laidler.
Match-Ups
Geelong Forwards VS Carlton Defenders:
Stokes-Duigan
Hawkins-White (although a witches hat will be just as effective)
Menzel-Armfield
Johnson-Russell
Podsiadly-Jamison
Gibbs/Laidler-Chapman
Varcoe-Yarran
Not horrible match-ups. Gibbs went alright on Chapman last year in Round 5 so will run with him in the middle, JR will hopefully do the usual on Johnson, Varcoe is the danger man, had a down game vs the Pies but could bounce back here.
Carlton Forwards VS Geelong Defenders:
Betts-Hunt
O'halpin-Lonergan
Walker-Scarlett
Gartlett-Enright
Waite-Taylor
Robinson-Mackie
Realistically we are probably a little down on firepower without Henderson/Houlihan/Kreuzer so I think the Cats will try to play a little loose, especially those last 4 match-ups. Mackie/Robinson will probably be pushed by Scott, Ratten would want Robbo sitting on Scarlett or Enright though. The speed of our line-up could really kill the Cats if we get the movement flowing.
Midfields:
Bartel-Carazzo
Judd-Ling
Murphy-Kelly
Chapman-Gibbs
Selwood-Mclean
Thats probably the general gist of it. Only Bartel-Carazzo and Judd-Ling would be particularly hard, maybe Kelly-Murphy. The rest of it is going to be a balls to the wall head to head slogfest.
Prediction
Blues by 10 points.
This is going to be close and if it isn't then we are probably not going to end up on top. I think we can do it, mostly because I think we match-up better than the Cats do on us. Fitness queries on a few important Cats helps us here, Ottens/Ling/Milburn all under clouds, if they aren't running out the game we will have a chance to seal it late. Bye seems to be a curse but I don't hold these sort of things as the deciding factor. If the boys come to play this will be a ripper
