Sorry to intrude, what are peoples thoughts on Griff staying if a trade can't be fostered?

Surely he can't stay, it would be very uncomfortable for the club, Griff and the players. The media will be throwing petrol on that fire the whole year, could really develop into a circus if it turns bad with the playing group....

Can't stay. We have to sort something out.

Worse case scenario is Griff gets paid to pig shoot for a year

Or..worst case is that Footscray has the best midfielder ever to play state league and we win back to back VFL flags.

Even blokes like me who four days ago were trying to lessen the hate toward Griffen and justify his actions.... he's got to go.
Even at the very least for a list management/salary cap perspective. Boyd aside, GWS have desperately wanted a top-20, gun, established midfielder for their entire existence and they have to pay overs to grab him as a contracted player. We're going to get nice picks for him.

This has turned into a game of chicken between the clubs. Now that Boyd has laid his cards on the table, its whoever blinks first. Boyds announcement woudl have shit the GWS administrators to tears.
I'm sure the AFL are watching this and wondering, sheesh, what happens to the other 'stars' of GWS in the comming years, how will we get kids to play for them? Interesting times.

Straight swap and quickly would be best solution IMO.

Well I have heard that part of the issue is that he's not contactable and they need to talk to him...what is this bloke doing? He leaves this mess and goes pig shooting! Good one....don't take any responsibility for you actions....just leave it for others to clean up you mess.

Bad look Ryan, we know you a little better now.

Yeah it's piss weak of him to run away like that. Does he even want to go to GWS?

My view differs to a few on here now.

GWS thought they would get him relatively cheaply due to the way it was announced made his position untenable.

Then for the first time a club was able to bite back.

If they are unwilling to offer 2 first rounders or Boyd, do no trade.

We will get something close to what they are offering next year and he will be the exaple of how not to behave as a captain of a club. If we acquiesce in any way we show weakness. Don't blink and we show we will be reasonable of the other party does, otherwise we will not be pushed around

Rockliff and Lions players had problems with Voss.
They told the club, they acted on it and they lost their coach but moved on and had a good year.

Griffen instead tells the board everything is fine, and then 3 weeks later walks out on the club.
The club then are forced to sack / resign the coach anyway in order to move on but lose the best player and skipper in the process.

I have more respect for ROckliff who was at least up front and has moved on to play a terrific season.
If only griffen had the same respect for the club.

Not going to get anything like that if anything at all.
Griffen will be a free agent and free agent compo may not even exist. He could go for nothing next year

Well said Cyclops.

Has well and truely disgraced himself. If he handed it all inhouse and wanted to leave, while alot of us would have been hurt his reputation would have been fine. But his actions and the fact he still avoids contact from the club shows his issue's were more than the coach.

Has to be the most hated former captain of a club now.

A strong stand is to take that risk. A weak stand is to say ok you win we will just take pick 4 as we MAY not get compensation next year.

We have more to lose in the future if we let go our Captain and current best player for unders when he is still under contract.

I get the feeling that's why they won't budge on this one. If they allow Boyd to be traded now it will send a message to all their talented kids that they can field offers from other clubs and leave whenever they want. I'd say that if Boyd went, Cameron would be out the door soon after.

Reminds me of the StKilda Luke Ball fiasco.
Ross Lyon dug his heels in over Luke Ball, refusing to trade him and they eventually got nothing for him.

I agree and it is why we cannot accept 1 pick for Griff. 2 first rounders or sorry Griff your new friends did not really want you as much as you thought.

Yep and but for an unlucky bounce would have had a flag the next season
