Rumour SA club draft tampering?

I dont really see a problem with a kid being upfront and honest about their intentions. Surely it'd be better to do that than stick at a club for a couple of years and then ask for a trade.

The Crows and Rankine was what came to mind first.

Probably isn't, as long as its not a club pushing a kid who is slightly out of reach to make them slide to their pick by trying to scare of other clubs.

So let's say the crows have informed him that they will definitely pick him up if available at their first pick. Nothing wrong with that, right?

And then, lets say that during the interviews he tells other clubs that he will never be fully committed to a non-SA club because he would rather stay in Adelaide. Also OK, I assume?

I don't see that as draft tempering.

It’s a bit of a gray area, not tampering but not a good look.

What if it's Adelaide with Luko? That's who they've got the hard on for.

What if they've said they won't allow Francou to take up an assistant coaching role with Gold Coast unless Gold Coast pass on Luko with picks 2 and 3, and they want to do a deal with St Kilda for 4 with their picks on draft day.

If he is deliberately tanking his interviews becouse he has been told by a club they want him but won’t have the pick required to get him and he wants to be at that club so goes through with it it would have to be draft tampering, how could it not be ?

A potential number 1 pick deliberating tanking his interview

Could be both, trade up marginally with GC (Melbs first and what they get for McGovern) to get Luko and Rankine slides to their first by tanking his interview.

If he is just being honest about his desire to stay in SA, is that deliberatively tanking?

You're kidding right? Melbourne now has Pick 15 at best. Carlton may do a deal with Sydney to swap 24 and 25 for 12 and pass that on to Adelaide for McGovern. Either way, those two picks wouldn't be anywhere near what they need to secure Lukosius.

Is it strictly draft tampering though ? Telling clubs he wants to stay in SA and would likely request a trade back home ?

It depends how it is worded. "I'm a big family person, i'm not sure how i'll cope being away from family full time, I think I may get homesick" isn't draft tampering.

"If you draft me, then i'll be requesting a trade after my initial contract" probably is draft tampering.

My point is as you said, trade us pick 2 for these picks and we’ll let Francou out of his contact...

I’d say either is ok IF it’s only the player acting on his own, if he is being motivated by the crows so he slides to them by scaring if other clubs I’d say it’s defiant tampering either way.

If they are investigating a club then it sounds like something more sinister. Unfortunately it's not as cut and dry as to which of our clubs it may be. Both our clubs have something to gain by manipulating the system a bit this year.

I’d imagine with it being the AFL that the definition of tampering is so vague that it’s almost impossible not to do it.

As far as I can see only two clubs have been done for tampering, Crows (Tippett) and Collingwood as per the article.
The article sounds a hell of a lot like what people suspect with the Crows and Rankine.

It could be as simple as "we won't bid on Thomas if you accept trading us your first round pick for Polec and no pick going back the other way"

All I got from that article was this picture:

if-cover-jan-18.jpg

Tim Watson - 3x VFL/AFL premiership player, 4x best and fairest winner
Darren Jarman - 3x AFL premiership player, 3x All Australian
Andrew McLeod - 2x AFL premiership player, 3x best and fairest winner, 5x All Australian

Josh Jenkins - 2018 Adelaide leading goal kicker

****ing lol.

The draft is illegal anyway. It's a house of cards that relies on all clubs sticking with it even when it works against them.

When the AFL talks of "tampering" they just mean that a club is trying to break rank with the system without appearing to do so.

One day someone will challenge the draft in court and that will be the end of it.

It could be as simple as "we won't bid on Thomas if you accept trading us your first round pick for Polec and no pick going back the other way"

Clubs would do that sort of deal all the time. Besides, North need our third round pick if they give us 10 to match a bid.

We might have said Polec and 45 for 10 and we promise not to bid on Thomas with 9 or 10. But if you insist on 27...we're going to bid on him with 9 to ensure you burn through that pick anyway.

It's not draft tampering...it's just advising what our draft strategy is and how it changes depending on what picks we have. Forcing North to burn through 27 and 28 ensures that we have a greater chance of getting a better player at 45 and 46.

Now, if we are being investigated, I'd play nice with North but then bid on Thomas with an early pick anyway.

Well that’s creative

We would be screwed... for years
I'm sure when we would then be in line for a priority pick after being crap for a few years that the AFL would change the rules like they did to us in 2012.
