I havent seen anything from the club hinting at an extension. All they've said is they back him in for next year so far
The club has said the Hinkley will definitely be coaching Ports in 2023.
Hinkley has said that he doesn't like the added pressure of coaching in the final year of a contract not knowing if he'll have a job the next season.
Koch has said that it is unfair on Hinkley to have him coaching in the final year of a contract not knowing if he'll have a job the next season.
Koch and the board believe that Hinkley is a superhero for getting us to consecutive Preliminary Finals.
Koch has said that stability in the senior coach's role is more important than success.
Koch's masters, the AFL, want Ports to be stable not successful.
The AFL media continue to praise the job Hinkley is doing at Ports and push the narrative that he saved the club from oblivion.
Koch is not going to sack the man who is widely recognised to have save Ports from oblivion.

Are we a charity for the Ken Hinkley foundation now or something?
We have been for the past 5 years and it's the Hinkley Family Foundation. They're like the Byrde family and Port Adelaide is the Ozarks.

So sack him now then while he has the security of a contract for next season. He doesn't lose sleep worrying about coming out of contract. We get rid of Ken. Win-win!

Imagine if all of this was true.....

We can beat the SUNS this weekend (I’d like to keep that win streak active since 2011) and still have zero hope of finals with Freo, Melbourne, Geelong, Collingwood and Richmond to come.

With how close it is this year, 13 wins plus a healthy percentage won’t guarantee a spot and we are 7 wins away from that with 9 games left. It’s just not happening.

Well then, come on the Suns!

Even a win this week isn't going to propel them to making the 8. Freo in Perth, Melbourne in the Territory, Geelong and Richmond, Collingwood at the G. For a team who more or less can only lose two games at the most (more likely just 1 game given their low percentage relative to other finals contenders) they're borderline delusional thinking they can make it from this point.

Never underestimate the (port) power of borderline delusional thinking!!!

Its about removing the mathematical chance asap so we can finally move on.

Literally we are sitting in 12th with a season down the gurgler and there are people talking about how well our coaches have done to beat Sydney. Every single tiny "success" will be heralded as a reason to keep going with the status quo no matter how much failure surrounds it.

Have a listen to Riley Bonner's interview on 5aa yesterday. It had everything - outside noise, we're focussing on the now, Kenny's been great. It even had "teams would be fearful of playing us in the finals if we make the 8'. It was quality listening and had a high delusion factor.

If only Ken was ‘focussed on the now’ instead of spiking the ball after the Qualifying Final.
And then taking all preseason + 5 rounds into the season proper to wake up to maybe just maybe you needed to change something after losing a prelim by 12 goals on your home deck after a week off

Agreed. Might as well keep that dominant record intact, subject to kenniness.
The losses will come in the next month or so.

He's been Kernified at last :p

It's been a bloody long time, but jeez it's been worth it to hear those things said.

Carn, Marty Byrde has 200 points higher IQ than Kern.

Conversely for Jonah and Jordan.
