I'm amazed that people are so worked up about this. It was never going to be anything other than an extension once we qualified for finals and realistically that happened a couple of months ago now. The idea that he was going to be sacked if he didn't make a grand final or whatever was fanciful. I allowed myself the slight hope of a Carr succession plan but even that ended up being fanciful.

..... and f**kheads like you won't risk wearing out your last two brain cells since the only thing you'll be rambling for the next couple of years is "sAcK hInkLeY"
And... He'll be right. And you'll be wrong. And you can probably live with that. It's not a big deal. It is what it is. Hinkley will not coach a premiership at Port. The best you will have to offer to the discussion after the fact, is 'oh well'.

Hinkley should give half his salary to the recruitment team. They've assembled the best midfield trio in the comp, and brought in an AA key defender, a crafty small forward (Junior), etc etc. The recruitment team has made Hinkley look good.
Forget the mids. Ken has gotten this extension off the back of a single player; Aliir Aliir.

Its holds considerable weight that Rozee, Butters and JHF love Ken so I guess it's up to those 3 young stars to carry us to a flag by 2025.

Unf***ingbelievable spineless decision by the dolts running this club. All rivalry/banter aside, all supporters of all clubs should be pissed at this. Substituting ruthlessness and win-at-costs attitude for some bullshite 'stability' mantra. Pathetic

The fact that Hinkley said himself he was not approached by any other clubs and that there is no succession plan in place makes it worse. If Hinkley is so good, why did they only offer him two years?

I don't necessarily agree with the re-signing (I see why based on the results so far, but does it follow the trend of failure, or does he do a Dimma and go from failure to success?), I'm just here for the tantrums and melts from the idiotic peasants "passionate supporters" :thumbsu:
Your patience was excusable in 2017. In 2023 you just lack any ability to think critically about football. This is indefensible from the club.

What’s this happy clapper sh!t?

I’ve sat opposite tarps on cold wet days at Pleuracy Park. I donated more than I could afford when the club was on its bones. I’ve attended come rain or shine when thousands of you didn’t. I’ve donated 1000s of hours of my time to the club.

I crave success more than almost all of you. I don’t see Ken as the anti-Christ. I see a squad growing into a serious premiership contender now and for the next 5-8 years.

It would be an absurd call to ditch Ken now. He has built a squad that can compete with them all and is younger and more exciting than all.

He’s on a short leash. Anyone with half a brain and who is capable of completing their 5 yo’s Join The Dots can work out this is his last contract:

  • No contract extension until the last 2 games of the season
  • 2 days ago Josh Carr withdraws from the Richmond job, despite being favourite, citing family stability.
  • then we sign Ken, not for 3 but 2 years.

For those of you that can’t join dots- assistant coaches get $100,000-$200,000. Senior coaches get $700,000-$1,000,000 pa. You can buy a shit load of family stability with an extra $600,000-800,000 pa.

Josh Carr will be head coach in 2026, maybe before.

Time for the Ken haters to pull your heads in. Some of you even want us to lose to get rid of Ken. That is quintessential lunatic when we are the youngest top 4 team and 3 wins away from a flag.

You are not the true heart of the club.

I am lead to believe the happy clappers now outweigh us, so therefore we have lost control of the club. Sad.
This struck me when I was at the game on Sunday. The reality is the majority of our support did not attend a Port game prior to us joining the AFL. They have no concept of what Port Adelaide was. If they were supporters pre-97, they were armchairs supporters who maybe turned up for a Grand Final. They were not fully invested in everything Port.

The way that people who are old enough to know better were all lapping up that vomit inducing retro round shite really brought it home to me. These people would rather us wear that abomination we wore on Sunday, than the Bars. If people feel that way, I don't believe they had any real connection to Port pre-1997. These people are muppets that make up most of Port Facebook.

The club prostrates themselves at these people and pays nothing but lip service to its traditions and pisses all over everything that made us great and got us into the AFL.

Where did it all go so wrong?

If Mitchell spontaneously combusted tomorrow and Ken was available absolutely!
I think most supporters of other teams would.

Obviously I haven't followed his career as closely as you guys but it seems from the outside that he has made some very good calls and no real screw ups.

The players love him, he trades and drafts well and his gameday tactics have him with the third best win/loss ratio in the game (Better than Clarkson btw).

Hence my bewilderment at this thread

Luckily for you, your club has a competent board and wouldn't hire Ken.

How deluded do you need to be to think Ken is going to win us a premiership?

Ok, you seem to make some valid points..but just riddle me this?

Why did it need to be done now? Why couldn't it wait until after this year's results?

The list is that good that whoever is in charge is going to do well, we jst need to have someone who can take us to the next level (which Ken can't, he just can't).

Would rather the 700k to 1m going to Carr, than to this guy whose stolen enough from us already.

His problem as a coach is that he can't consistently motivate the team to win big games.

We haven't won a knockout final since 2014.

The idea that we can beat 3 top 4 sides in a row in the cauldron of finals pressure to win a flag is laughable. I'll remind you what happened the last time we went into a finals game as the clear favourite.

We're blowing a list on a guy who has proven beyond any doubt that he can't consistently get the players mentally prepared. He's a poor coach.

The absurd call is keeping someone you already know isn't capable. If we're handing off to Carr, why delay? What is there to gain?

Your club is more like Port Adelaide than us these days.

It's like knowing someone who's eventually going to die of a terminal illness and then getting a phone call one day to inform you they're dead.
We all knew it was going to happen but it still cuts deep.

I’d liken it more to an old school mate who’s an on again off again addict. You know he’s going to get back on the smack, but you’re still furious at him when he does, and at yourself for imagining it might not happen.

After doing a quick whip-round of the closed shop fan groups, I feel like Steve Carell after chatting with the stripper in The Big Short,

“there’s a bubble! short everything!”

old mate thundercloud is just the tip of the iceberg.
