Yeah, I guess I don't really understand the different responsibilities of:

List manager (SOS)
Head of talent and acquisition (Gubby)
Talent identification and player movement manager (Dimple)
Probably need to wait until they appoint someone and spell it out for us.

But effectively it probably looks like.

SOS is responsible for our existing players. Are they staying going, their contracts etc

Gubby as head of talent and acquisition will be responsible for our overall performance of attracting talent to the club.

He will probably be more existing player focus whereas the new role will have similarities however has a bigger draft focus.

So “Dimple” has the scouts reporting to him, would set the strategy and focus + how we evaluate the talent.

Probably has an expanded role to what Toce ever had with free agency and player trades - but would work with Gubby around this.

Then would then work with SOS once a player is Identified to work out $$$ and if we had the currency to trade for player.

Then they all report to Ross and he makes the final call.

For you nerds, that cyclone emoji is accurate, rotating clockwise.
Hurricane 🌀 emoji is accurate too, rotating anti clockwise.
Great to see that emoji can be accurate yet autonomous cars are still a “thing”.

Elon publically stated that we'd have them by 2022. I publically stated in a footy forum that it was bullshit.
I declare myself smarter than Elon, or less of a liar or something.

However

I wonder if Mowman has seen these babies in action.

Being trapped in the 60’s is still not helping me understand your obscure analogy between Ginger and Trout!

Its obvious.

💯 this
Our last few years under Toce have been as good as any
Yea, drafting in the last 3 years were good. But more down to luck than science. But maybe only stands out because the years before were so bad, picking up very little young talent.

2021 - NAS was rated highly and what we need. Owens, Windhager as academy players pick themselves.

2022 - All 4 Philipou, Van Es, Hotton, Keeler were rated highly, we just got lucky they lasted to our picks

2023 - We got lucky with Wilson, Collard and Shoenmaker slid. Garcia is the only bolter. You can argue we did well trading / moving up the order, but that’s more SOS

That’s one way of looking at it

Yeah 10 years before hand we were just unlucky

Lucky 😂

So the last 2 drafts we got lucky 7 times

Should’ve got Toce to buy the club a few powerball tickets before he left

The question to ask is would someone else with our draft hand and some draft knowledge would do a much worse job than TOCE in the last 3 years, the answer is probably no. Because we kept our picks, and didn’t reach for someone like Allison.

Talent ID is not doing the blindly obvious, it’s finding value (not sliders) and potential where others have missed, a side like Sydney with no high end picks seem to consistently pick up gems (academy aside). That is the reason for the change you would think.

Lucky?

In the history of the club, we’ve been shit out of luck for the vast majority of 150 years.

If Toce has been nothing but lucky then he’s the first StK representative in 57 years to have a bit go his way.

Makes the decision even more bizarre.

We probably would have ended up with Josh Sinn instead of Nas if Toce had gone with the blindly obvious.

Or the question could be would someone else with our draft hand and some draft knowledge would do a much BETTER job than Toce in the last 3 years, the answer is probably no

But is TOCE one of the best in talent ID / recruiting? If the Sydney guy is well recognised in the industry (for building the bulldog premiership list and Sydney’s grand final team), then it’s an improvement?

Or are we so scared of change because the Richo / Ratten years have scared us for life.

People turning their nose up for a better recruiter is like those refusing to trade Billings just in case he reaches his potential after 9 years of mediocrity.
Have we announced who his replacement is yet ?

Just because we have let someone go doesn’t mean we can’t acknowledge that he did a good job

And to suggest he was nothing but lucky is just silly imo

People aren’t turning their nose up at a better recruiter just acknowledging that we have a good bunch of young kids for the 1st in a long time and Toce deserves some credit for that

We have drafted well the last 2 years.

But if we can turn Toce into Dalrymple then it’s a no brainer.

If it’s Toce into Gringos best mate Elshaug then we have ****ed it.

But I’m confident it won’t be a backwards step
