Caminiti needs to be persevered with. The backline is his spot and he did some really good things.
No more Cordy, thanks.

No question. Thought he did some really good things, particularly in the last. In fact don't think we would have won without his last quarter.

Really think he could develop in to a very good KPD or intercepting defender. Got to keep going with him there.

I missed a word in my post, but I meant to say he looked more involved this week against Geelong.
Definitely was. I was in Adelaide and his effort was very frustrating.

Agree. The way Owens played on Sat was almost a mirror of a Sammy Hamill game. Although Hamill was a better kick for goal - Owens needs to fix that.
I have this horrible feeling that Owens kicking for goal is going to cost us big time in a big game. As good as his game was on the weekend I still freak out watching him line up for goal.

They were lucky King, Sharman, Pou and Doug weren't playing.

Plus the other 2 or 3.

If Smith had played like he did last week, King ,Sharman, Pou and Doug wouldn't have made much difference.
They would have controlled the midfield.

Yes. We were lucky Stewart got injured, they were lucky Stocker got injured, can go on and on. You make your own luck.

On rewatch l reckon we're sleeping on Maxy Hall's entry to team.
I reckon as Hall, Hugo, Wilson, Windy, Henry and Trav come along we'll start to see RTB's vision of a swarming & spreading midfield brigade.

One of the worries is ATM it's a super high energy game plan that they won't be able to bring every single week. Not dissimilar to Richo's policies though without the drudgery.

If our fitness can hold up then we are 100% on. Cats only got back in to the game because we ran out of juice. Not to mention we had a fair few key guys coming off short/ limited preseasons, a debutant, 2 second gamers, and Collard.

Various reasons we looked gassed in the last ten.
1. 3 quarters of over 200 to 220 pressure with gang tackles and a defensive swarm, even in the 4th the pressure was in the 200's
2. A young group of debutants, and a bunch of players under ten games. Keeler was the example, cooked midway through the 3rd, battled hard although getting rinsed. Still had the go in him to take the match killing mark.
3. Only second game of the season still not match fit. Geelong doing most of the attack in the last 10 minutes were too gassed to finish the game off.
4. Going on from no.3, 6 day break coming off an interstate game v 7 day break after a light workout on their own dung heap.

I think all 4 reasons are valid.

Owies in particular was a surprise. It seemed counter productive. He was one I thought we might look at, but glad we didn't. Better to stick with the mix of experience and kids we have. I know there's probably a small forward hole that could be filled, but I reckon what we have will come good. Just hope it's sooner rather than later.
Kennedy a solid citizen which all clubs need.
I don't want to dwell on the baggers too much, but It's fun watching them trip and stumble 😆

Kennedy is probably a bit more high end than Owies but for importance to Carlton it looks like a terrible move. Like us cutting Butler hoping that Collard would just pick up the slack.

The club took a risk with not getting a proper mature backup for Butler/Higgins/Henry, relying on Hall and Collard to get it done when required

Both have taken big steps in repaying the club's faith so far this season

Still no where near Wilson. How many teams passed on him Gringo ?

That's the whole point. They used the last pick in the draft and two years later he's in their best 6 players. Geelong keep finding these diamonds out of nowhere. They do it better than most.

Nas and Wilson are absolute blue chip prospects as is Phillipou but they were all our first pick in the draft. The equivalent would be if Schoenmaker ends up in our best 6 by the end of this year.

We bid on Leake, how pissed would we be right now if they'd let him go to us and taken Wilson.

We didn't bid, he was in the open draft. They were worried we'd take him so bid to jump ahead of us because he was a bolter. Leake actually looks like a great prospect too. As does Windsor who was nearly un-splittable from Wilson as they both seemed similar types with similar upside. I'm extremely happy we got Darcy but that ended up being an incredibly good draft overall.

The quality performances of Windhager and Owens bring to mind the old Ross Lyon rule of the "four year apprenticeship". Ross has acknowledged that's not the right way to develop kids anymore (eg Nas who plays from season 1 and was close to elite by season 3), but back in 08-09, he basically refused to play anyone unless they'd done 3-4 years VFL first.

Windy and Owens are both now at that 4-year, 50+ game mark and were incredibly influential on Sat. Will be interesting to see if they can sustain a more consistent, higher level this year. Would make a bit difference if they take that next step.

50 games is that point where consistency tends to kick in. Owens would have taken a lot of confidence from that performance. He looked like he knew he was the alpha dog up forward. Windhager too, just a super pro performance and lots of little bits of clever play that showed he's got some glitter on his disciplined demeanour.

I thought Owens went backwards a bit last year. Thought he was back to the Owens we saw in 23 on the weekend. Reminds me a bit of Aaron Hamill. Worth much more to the team than his stats suggest.

They had him double teamed and held for a lot of the match after a fast start. That's the ultimate compliment and frees space for guys like Snags and Collard to work in.

I think you're forgetting how good Hamill was at missing set shots. He was a very average kick on goal but had plenty of chances at it through grunt work rate.
