Nah, let Garcia play as a mid, same with Boxshall. That’s where we want him to develop. He’s not going to be a better small forward than Collard, even now, but he is a talented young mid.

We need to fast track Collard.

Collard is exactly the player we need to come on.

Agreed. I swear some people want us to get hammered by 100 just to see 7 debutants in the same side.

We seem to be doing that without bulk youth ATM.

5 year cycle?
Conversation was from Adam Simpson saying west coasts analysis on rebuilding was that it takes 5 years to go from bottom to top again.

So discussing which would be our year 1.

A few posters believed it was 2021 or 22.

It can’t have been anything but 2023 or 24 in my eyes

We only ever play two small forwards when Butler is ok, if they desperately want another small forward use Garcia in the role. Collard didnt even get a game in the practice matches? So yes I would have bought Boxshall and rotate him with Garcia. Owens and Keeler come into the side will give us more goal kickers.

And lets not forget who we are playing - Geelong who have all big bodied and developed defenders. How is Collard going to go against them, he will run around like a frightened chicken in a pen being chased by a fox.
Or from the Geelong point of view:

"How the hell are our heavy, lumbering defenders going to be able to catch that Collard lighting bolt.......!!!"

Literally debuted new meat in last week and this week’s games. Played plenty of kids all last season. Have a lie down.

mature aged rookies.
Dropped Arie and Hastie after a game. They might get played but they don’t get consistency to learn the level and the team. Maybe if we had a good vfl program it would be alright but we don’t

Agreed. We really need a skillful small forward with elite speed.

Skill wise there is absoloutly nothing Collard can't do that say a Bobby Hill can.

Its just his production, attitute and work rate we need to see more of.
Patrick Said kicked 23g.11b from a forward/midfield role last year. Hope he develops well.

188cm inside contested mid in for a small forward...makes a lot of sense

Garcia in for a small forward when we pretty much lost every game last year when he played that role...makes a lot of sense

I'm expecting a far more competitive performance this week. Sincs and Row will be much better for the run and Nas's kicking surely has to be better. Cal Wilkie is an extremely proud man and he won't be happy with the 21 goals conceded last week. The captain and Hilly are hopefully stung a bit by their performance as well and will surely try and make some kind of statement. Hoping to also see something from Isaac and Lancey Boy to give us something to look forward to in the future.

Having said that, I'm still expecting a 5-6 goal loss.

I'm expecting a 50+ point loss

Stew/Guthrie to dominate the air against Keeler

Neale to kick career-high goals on Caminiti and Stengle to kick 4+ with Wilkie too occupied by Jez to intercept and Stocker too slow. Big responsibility on LOC to ensure he adequately supports the defence

Don't want to be too pessimistic so I'll leave it there...

I'd say that 2021 was the start. It might take longer because we were starting mid table rather than bottom out but hitting the picks is the most important factor. Nas, Owens and Windhager are all best 22 players with massive upside still from 2021, 2022 was Phillipou, Keeler and McLennan (Stocker and Hammer rookied), 2023 Wilson, Collard, Hastie, Garcia and Schoenmaker. I see no reason other than stalling to call the starting point 2023.

We turned over list and traded out players to get access to the draft. Wilson ad Phillipou are coming on at above average speed to add to Nas. That will have a lot more bearing on how we go than when it started.

Honestly think the 4 guys who can really change our fortunes the most are King, Collard, Travaglia, Tauru. All high-upside guys in positions of need. King as the focal point with +3 goals per game, Collard as the forward-half opportunist that automatically gives us +2 goals every week, Tauru as the wall in defence, and Travaglia as the speed in the mids alongside Pou and others. If they hit their potential then we become top 4 immediately

Plus Henry.

So poor old Jack Higgins has been copping all the heat for us dropping back 2 spots in the draft, when it was really actually all Zac's fault.
It was his handball. One of his best ever to Higgins. If he did his usual disposal, Carlton win.

Disagree. Jones' handballing is one of the most consistently high-quality in the league imo - very very very underrated part of his game probably because of how poor his other aspects are

It was a joke Joyce.

Anywhoo on another topic.

BF nuffies, 'why are we playing list cloggers and not the kids'?
Kids getting selected, 'why are we gifting games to this kid'?
F'kn bi-polar.
