Listening on radio...

Grima has just gone down with a knee. Terrible news for us Bays supporters. If there is a silver lining, it may give Sellar greater opportunities.

Another great game from Holmes. I know he is short and smallish but is a tough, skilled ball magnet...worth a late draft pick or rookie spot??

Glenelg 13.13 to Norwood 1.3

Norwoods lowest score since 1913. Drumbo's report is going to get ugly.

Just got home from the game. Norwood were as atrocious as the scoreline looks. Lots of errors from both sides in the first quarter, was a bit dewy, but Glenelg settled after that and turned it on in the third, and Norwood did nothing. If they hit ten targets all night i'd be surprised.

At one point in the first quarter a Norwood bloke in the centre fell over, and a Norwood player handballed to him and ran into him, and turned it over. Laughed myself silly on that one.

To sum: they were shocking. The one goal they did get was a tight checkside snap under pressure from about three opponents whilst running through a pack - i.e., hardest kick of the night. Everything else was horrendous.

your so correct its not funny

we were really shit

Absolutely ____ing woeful effort by Norwood, I am embarrassed.

As for the Crows boys

Walker couldnt get near the ball in the first half because it never came down there. Had 1 shot at goal which he missed from 40M in front. PLayed defense in the 2nd half, not much to comment about because we were getting smashed.
Kite, thought he was close to Norwoods best. Kept his cool in tyhe face of an avalanche.
Sellar, ok but not much more than that, ok in the ruck. For a team that was dominating so he should have been.
Campbell, part of a midfield that got smashed.

in Walkers defence, what he did was pretty good, his skills are impressive him legs speed and intensity is not so much.

Kite - was inetersting seemed to be everywhere, but like everyone except Campbell could pick the ball up or handballed it to a Glenelg player

on some Power players Lower is a ball magnet, but oh my god he has the worst disposal since anthony Ingerson, most kicks were dribblers and the ones that weren't went OTB anyway.

Cockshell, lacked intensity big time.

Absolute joke of a performance. Disgraceful, disgusting, non competitive.

As for the Crow lads, I’ll give it my best shot but I’m pretty flat after sitting through one of the most painful matches of my life.

Aaron Kite: Started out on the wing tagging the very dangerous former Hawk Ben Kane. He stuck to him closely before going off about 10 minutes into the term. Came back on about 5 minutes later and went back to Kane. Had 2 possessions in the first term, both handballs, and one was a bit fierce for a defender who was streaming forward. He fumbled and a ball up resulted. In the second quarter he was again on Kane and once again he didn’t give him much room. He eventually shifted onto Thomas Holmes and he was on him for about half the match. His second quarter was probably his best and he had about 5 possessions and 2 marks.

He went off early in the last quarter after attempting a tackle but his opponent broke the tackle. He looked winded and was helped to the bench where he was for about 5 minutes. Looked a bit sore and tired for the remainder of the match but he returned and got a bit of the ball. Had one impressive passage where he got a 1-2 and kicked it to Campbell near the forward 50. All up he would’ve had close to 15 possessions and 5 marks. Tackles didn’t quite stick tonight, except one in the first quarter which was close to being holding the ball. Thought he was good around the stoppages and he got out a number of quick handballs to running teammates, that was probably the feature of his game. Made space well and used the ball relatively well, especially by foot. 2 loose handballs but on the whole most of his possessions came under pressure and he used it well. Thought he was one of the few Norwood players who didn’t fumble; he managed to one grabbed the ball and hit his targets. I was very pleased with his performance as he won a bit of the ball, especially in contested situations, and he held his opponents pretty quiet. It might be my bias showing but I thought he was amongst our very small group of better players.

Bryce Campbell: Not that it means much but I thought he was one of our best players and was probably the only midfielder who had a positive impact. Laid some superb, crunching tackles and worked hard around the packs. Found a bit of the ball, especially after half time. Delivered a beautiful centering pass to a leading forward in the last term but the ball was fisted at the last minute. Had some great handballs and most set up teammates to run on. Would’ve finished with 20 odd possessions and was as much of a four quarter performer as one could be for Norwood.

Taylor Walker: Spent time up forward, on the bench and in defence. Spent nearly the entire last half in defence and I honestly thought he was impressive down there. Kept with his man on the lead and had quite a few possessions. Managed to make space and peel off and his use of the ball was pretty good. Delivered a beautiful 50 metre pass to Culpitt up the ground which was a good spot. In his time up forward he had one shot on goal after taking a strong mark but unfortunately he missed. He used his body well and to me he looked dangerous when the ball came his way. However it just didn’t come his way often and as a result he couldn’t get involved in the game.

He’s probably a chance to be dropped and unless they’re happy to continue the experiment of him in defence there’s a fair chance he’ll be playing reserves when Norwood play next. So in summation, he looked okay when up forward but he was starved by a lack of forward entries. When he was shifted to defence he performed admirably.

James Sellar: He should come to Norwood because he plays his best footy at Norwood Oval. Personally I thought it was one of the best games I’ve seen him play for a long, long time. He started off with a beautiful pick up off the deck, and shortly after he got free in the forward fifty and took an uncontested mark which he went back and drilled. Came out on a strong lead about 5 minutes later and took the mark, but he missed the shot. He spent quite a bit of time in the ruck and his ruckwork was impressive. It seemed like he got out quite a few handballs when he was in the ruck. But up forward I thought he looked dangerous; finished with 2.2 and he was quick, elusive and played with confidence tonight. Went up for a massive grab in the third quarter which he was probably unlucky not to bring down. A good showing and hopefully he can build on that.

good report drum i pretty much agree with you on all fronts.

I'd be suprised if Walker got dropped - he was one of the only Norwood lads who used the ball with any authority .
Whilst I do agree with you he looked good down back i still think it was Hills worst move for the knight, because whilst Taylor wasn't taking marks he minimal defensive action was far greater than that of other Norwood forwards.
My big question for you - Is Walker slow and do you think his 2nd efforts stink ?

Great news re Sellar:thumbsu:, as you are one of the few posters who can see past there Crow colored glasses

Drummy mate I know you're under a bit of duress after that "effort" by Norwood by good on ya for giving a balanced report of the game, very much appreciated.

As for the actual score, 1.3 is just abysmal at ANY LEVEL of football let alone League footy. I honestly couldnt believe it when I heard them on the radio (only started listening during half time)

Sounds good :thumbsu:

Thanks for that Drum.

A very good effort with the review in general, in pretty hard times :thumbsu:

I was there bedecked in Norwood guernsey and scarf. My summary is on the SANFL Norwood board. I am too ashamed to repeat.

One of the more embarrassing, possibly the absolute worst defeat I have seen the club succumb to. With so many AFL listed players there has to be a lot of questions asked about attitude.

Club motto has never been more relevant. The irony that Trevor Hill was quoted in the paper today as saying that last week's win was the best he had been associated with at the club. From chocolates to boiled lollies!!!

Norwood 0.0 1.1 1.3 1.3 9
Glenelg 3.4 5.7 11.11 13.13 93

As I mentioned somewhere else, saw Curnow in the Glenelg reserves for a half. He played at half back and wasn't too bad, not a stand out but probably won his position. I can see him performing at a high level, just needs a little more conifdence I think.

Campbell played mainly in the centreof the ground all game, but snuck up forward on a couple of occasions. Was probably one of Norwood's best. Would've had about 20 posessions, was in and under packs, always applied pressure etc.

Walker was very quiet up forward to start with, but then again, he didn't have much opportunity. Had one shot on goal from a one on one contested mark, should've got it, was a reasonable distance and angle, but missed. He did play a role in the only goal kicked, by dishing off a handball near the boundary to whoever it was who kicked the goal. Then in the second half he was moved down back where he got his hands on the ball a bit. Probably finished with around 10 possessions.

The third Crows player for Norwood was Aaron Kite. Gotta love his enthusiasm, practically the first Norwood player out onto the ground. He played on the wing all night. His second quarter would've been his best. Overall, he didn't fair too bad. Probably not his best game, he lacked the flair his shown in previous games, but still looked good when he got his hands on the ball. I'd say he would've had 18 possessions and also, he came off late in the last term after receving a low blow.

Last of all, James Sellar. One Glenelg supporter commented behind me that he thought it was probably his best game for the year. Played at half forward and had the odd stint in the ruck. He kicked one goal in the first quarter, from a strong mark. He almost followed it up later on the first term, having taken a mark on the lead and with not much of an angle to contend with, but he didn't quite make the distance. He nearly took a contested mark through a pack, but couldn't hang on. Then in the second quarter, Norwood had the ball in their defensive fifty, he floated back to block up some space when most of the other Glenelg players were drifting to the other side of the ground, needless to say the ball came his way and spoiled it out of bounds. Thought that was smart play. Kicked a behind in the third quarter and was pretty quiet in the last. Just a handful of possessions and hit outs tonight but was good, even though I don't think he'll make Glenelg's best for the night.

Norwoods lowest score since 1913. Drumbo's report is going to get ugly.

My God! That's a sobering thought. Alby Green would possibly have been alive to see that game!

Amazing result seeing we were sitting in 4th place. How must Port and North be feeling?! (Trying to take some kind of positives out of this debacle).
