Re: 2011 SC Defenders Discussion Thread

Drummy has been unluckily injured quite a bit recently but training the house down. I expect him to see a few games but not sure if Gillies is in front of him.
He's injured.

Re: 2011 SC Defenders Discussion Thread

I have a couple guys no one has mentioned,
Duffield,
Strauss
andrew hooper

Any info or thoughts on these 3

Pick 19 in the 'superdraft' so into his 3rd year now.

Had a good pre-season and played well in the intraclub yesterday.

Not sure if he's best 21 but the Dees will definately give him games this year. Is a very efficient kick as well. One to watch in the NAB Cup but I am leaning towards selecting him.

Re: 2011 SC Defenders Discussion Thread

I'm happy with Goddard, Gibbs, Broughton

What are your thoughts on secondry of

Hurley, Shepard, Drum, and Otten

I know Drum might get some good gametime now, but hoping not injured and I'm concerned about otten with the previous injury. Happy with Hurley thought. But for the price I got those two I can't find anyone else worth it.

Re: 2011 SC Defenders Discussion Thread

Bob Murphy and James Gwilt?
Im thinking bout having one or maybe both, thoughts? better players at that price range(300K-400K)?
Bob should improve, was a gun 2 years ago and has dropped away but is class
and gwilt showed he can be a bloody good footballer through the finals last yr, can he step up his regular season this yr?

Bob has scorched me far too many times... Awkward price IMO. Not a premium and not undervalued.

I'm looking at Jadyn Post. MPP fwd/back. $178k. 3rd year player. If he's gonna go, this will be the year. thoughts?

Richmond supporters are guessing as much as everyone else Capt.

Months ago Hardwick said Post would be the ideal kind of player to use as a mobile 2nd ruckman switching to the forwardline given the new sub rules, but he has some stiff competition from Vickery for that role and quite probably a size disadvantage as a ruckman - which may or may not be offset by his mobility in terms of points (and getting selected in the first place).

Last year Hardwick had Post learning to play KPD, but from what we've heard this season the CHB role will go to Astbury or Rance, with one of them plus McGuane, Gourdis, and probably Thursfield and Moore ahead for FB.

The club rates Griffiths extremely highly, but he has had numerous shoulder problems and won't be rushed...however, he may well get the nod ahead of Post when he does resume senior football (which could even be rd.1 for all we know), which is perhaps the most open tall role gone.

So he's a maybe as a 2nd ruck, a maybe as a CHF/FF (Reiwoldt will be playing higher apparently so it may be FF), a probably not as a KPD, and a definite maybe for sub action.

Personally, I'm far from convinced he'll play most games, and not convinced he has the kind of scoring upside you'd want from a player that price. He is talented and has the potential to score well, but he's a significant risk.

If you're looking for a cheapish B/F player mostly for the MPP benefits rather than potential big scoring increase, consider Astbury - he'll play 22 games barring injury and will certainly improve his scoring from last year, just probably not a big increase.

Re: 2011 SC Defenders Discussion Thread

josh drummond, whats his story will he be right to go round1?if so surely he is a bargin at $400 000

Re: 2011 SC Defenders Discussion Thread

Cheers.... $200k+ is too much for a rookie MPP IMO. I'll be looking closely at Retzlaff instead.

Probably won't get a game until the second half of the year, if at all. He's a potential B/F but has largely been played at CHF in the reserves, and is sitting behind Clark and Brown at the moment and maybe Fevola and Cornelius depending upon circumstances.

He should be right to go Round 1, but off a limited preseason so he's even riskier than usual.

Re: 2011 SC Defenders Discussion Thread

Also thinking Josh Drummond as a risky pick - massive upside as he can pull out massive AND consistent scores...... if he stays on the pitch. But I can't find any real info on his injury, so i'll wait and see on that one.

Also taking a punt on J Grimes, hoping he can stay fit as well. Almost swore off Lindsay Gilbee last year after being so infuriatingly inconsistent, but I see I've placed him in again. Just got a feeling he's really going to step up this year, as it is apparent 'last year of the window'.

Drummond out for another 6 weeks - this time for a hip. Yep, thought he was worth it as well, until I saw he's crippled again

That's a shame, love watching him play, especially when you know that every kick he pinpoints to a target is gaining you precious SC points :p

Re: 2011 SC Defenders Discussion Thread

Anybody looking at Rhyce Shaw? Averaged a career low last year but averaged about 90 in the last few years before.

Declining age? Change of role? Or genuinely undervalued?

Just thinking that Kennelly and Malceski both back last year chewed into his points and even went fwd a few times. Don't think he will get any better SC wise..

Got a tough one probably both players are a no-no but am attracted to their prices.. Adcock vs Bob Murphy

Re: 2011 SC Defenders Discussion Thread

taylor hine?

Got him in midfield at the moment with early MPP cover in mind. Will be one I am definitely watching in the NAB cup. Almost spoilt for choice with some of these GC rookies.

Re: 2011 SC Defenders Discussion Thread

Thoughts on Broadbent from port, should play 22 games IMHO with primus in control baring injury. Reasonably priced at $350K???

Re: 2011 SC Defenders Discussion Thread

anyone know much about michael hibberd from essendon, i saved his name in my phone mid way through last year cos i heard he would be one to watch in 2011, havent heard much since

I have Duffman at the moment - he should get plenty of points playing from the HBF and midfield, although I wonder if Broughton would be a better option. Duffield seems more durable (played every game last season) and is arguably under-priced, but Broughton's scoring is more consistent.

Strauss is one I'm considering, but right now I have Heppell, Coad, Toy and Duigan ahead of him. Maybe if he's a standout in the NAB Cup I'll slot him in.
