In the 60s and 70s every bloke got a job. Large enterprises - power station, paper mill, councils, textile mills, lumber mills, department stores etc could find something for them to do, supervised. They also produced a large amount of apprentices, that smaller business entities couldn’t necessarily afford to train up.

Got a job, provider - chance of a girlfriend, good influence - buy a Housing Commission house, have a family - reasonably happy life.

Economic rationalism changed that.
The major changes over last 30 years since I started work has been the decline of unions and the increasing casualisation of the workforce

I hope Scott Morrison and Greg Hunt both die in a house fire. I really do.
Nah, I want scotty to live for a very long time and be constantly reminded every day of how bad of a job he has done and the knowledge that his name in history books will go down as how crap of a man and leader he is.

Oh I agree it wasn’t a great time. Howard left the country in a mess for Hawke & Keating to fix. My old man used to regularly complain how useless he was.

Hawke & Keating did what was needed but since then there has been a lack of good political leadership and only a few good policies.

I wonder if ScoMo's plan is to get as many people as possible struck down with Covid, then call an election and attempt to take a leaf out of Trump's book and try to decree that postal votes aren't legal, effectively taking those people out of the election process.

They've already done something similar in not allowing those MP's who weren't in the Chamber due to Covid protocols to vote on things that have been discussed in Parliament, so they do have form in this regard already.

If scotty even tries doing that then it will be open rebellion against him and his government.

Hell the Queen might even give scotty the arse.

Howard’s Gun control & GST I fully agreed with. No1 previously would tackle the issue and the GST the ALP would have implemented it if given the same opportunity. Labor steering us through the GFC was very very good.

This is what Morrison wants?

I ****ing knew it yesterday, too

Imagine if scalpers buy up all the rapid tests and sell them for loads more on ebay

When the government makes it clear that these tests are for profit, then of course the little guys would try to get ahead of the game and make a profit off it, too

What Morrison and co. are doing with rapid tests is what they'd do with Medicare, if given the opportunity.
They are already doing it. There is a huge number of things been removed.
The Labor party did warn the voters that they would decimate Medicare, but the LNP, Palmer and the Evil Murdoch press ran the scare campaign.

Interesting piece. Of course, I'm assuming the para referencing us as being a "kind, compassionate and innovative society that values its people above all else" was alluding to the general community (with exceptions, one who posts regularly here) and not the dog who is our federal leader and the mutts who have done the polar opposite.

Anyone who thinks that the ALP is 'Trotskyite' or Communist or whatever is 1) fried in the head and 2) a committed LNP voter.

Also, I don't remember Albo killing lots of people.

Wouldnt fit Albo's Catholic culture: https://www.catholicweekly.com.au/does-christianity-have-a-future-under-labor/
Keneally said the party’s post-election review concluded voters had formed the “impression that somehow Labor was not as welcoming to people of faith as our opponents”.

Labor’s removal of the conscience vote on the issue of same-sex marriage influenced this view in the electorate, which “disappointed” Keneally

“I felt that it sent a message that Labor no longer respected the views of people in the community that held a different position in good conscience on that issue,” the Senator said.

Keneally sought to present Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese as an alternative prime minister who would govern in the tradition of Catholic social teaching.

She appealed to the broad Catholic concern for social justice and ecology as important political issues in 2022, but did not substantively discuss religious freedom until questioned by organisers.

“[Albanese’s] mother Marianne steeped her son in three great faiths: the Catholic Church, the South Sydney Rabbitohs, and the Australian Labor Party,” Keneally said.

“From his Catholic upbringing and education he knows the importance of caring for the poor, feeding the hungry, caring for the sick. Of valuing the inherent human dignity in all persons.

Keneally did concede that discussions about the Religious Discrimination Bill have been a significant part of Labor’s increasingly vigorous outreach to religious communities, in which she is a key emissary.

WHY.....
Surely it couldnt be the same reason politicians dont appear on Sky News .... NO, one is evel, the other is perfect ... MORONS !

It's because Laura Tingle is hosting, they are scared of being held to account.

I'm sure LNP will appear when Sales is back from leave.

The question that is popping up regularly in our circle is whether Slippery is actually more unfit for office, more sociopathic, and more sinister than even Trump.

pretty hard to present a positive creative front when youve spent your whole life using fear and intimidation to get what you want
