We were very lucky, I know that.

I walked out of year 12 into a secure, full-time, job in a bank. If I had wanted to go to uni instead, it would have been free.

Housing was affordable. Full-time work was the norm, one of many benefits being it offered security if you wanted to borrow.

Many of my school mates went straight into apprenticeships from year 10. There wasn't the ridiculous pressure on HSC results as there is these days.

And so on.

A lot of the problems in today's society are due to the greed and materialism of my generation - by power brokers (politicians, corporate execs, etc) - and those who voted for them (I'm ashamed to day I was one of them for many years).

I don't blame individual behaviour by BB's so much, I mean you do and take what is available to you. But when you enable more and more greed by your voting behaviour, you certainly are part of the problem.
Like I said before you always come across as a very decent understanding person. Like I said minority

The problem that is often overlooked but explains why the boomer generation of politicians, economists and business leaders changed the economy was because the 1970s economy suffered from high inflation and stagflation, and to fix that problem they decided to change the economy, and for many people it has worked so they have kept doing it. However, overtime problems have mounted and our politicians, economists and business leaders do not know how to deal with these problems for they are scared of doing anything that might see a return to the bad old days.

Then give up your franking credits ya mug.

(said in jest)

Two big issues in the life of a boomer - whether they were called up for Vietnam and HIV for some of them. Otherwise very smooth sailing. I’m generation x and come from a 3 child family with a mother who was a stay at home parent and a father who drove a truck for a living. He bought a house when he was 22 circa 20km north from the cbd and eventually sent us to a private school when we moved to the north east. Spent most of my teenage years on an 80 acre hobby farm. I don’t think working families are able to afford that standard of living anymore. I’m in professional services and the mortgages I hear some of my staff taking on for their first house (most of them are getting in the market in their 30s) is scary. Hate to see how it is for working people. Boomer politicians made decisions which benefitted boomers and the rest of us got screwed.

Mate, seriously, read what I write rather than shifting it around.

As a consequence of the vaccinations, the infections won't in the medium to long term, result in hospitalisations. Already the hospitals are telling people who only have mild symptoms to stop fronting up. They will.

I BELIEVE (are you reading this, Chief ?) that the vaccinations will do the job they were designed to do. Which was to reduce the severity of the virus when caught.

I mean what do you want here?

Even your 10%, and it's closer to 5%, are likely to have been mostly people with no skin in the game. People who are unlikely to be at serious risk from the virus.

The Vaccines were designed to counter the original virus. We're thus far quite fortunate that those vaccines do offer a level of protection to the variants, to date.

However, the sheer numbers of sick people will affect things. Even milder symptoms for many of 'us' could well result in severe illness & even death for a quite large group of people.

The thing is that young people have no immunity & no vaccination. Some will suffer quite badly. That must be of concern. Also people do develop long term problems with lung damage from such viral insults. Apart from the syndrome called Long Covid, people do get lung damage/scarring, develop asthma & all sorts of other nasties from Respiratory viruses. Not all. but many will.

The current approach to Omicron may best be described as flippant. The planned 're-openings' were based on Delta. Its as if they have completely discounted Omicron. Thats why many medicos are concerned.

The usual Scumo plan seem to be, no plan, no care, & no responsibility accepted. ie The usual management method from Scumo. All on a wing & a prayer. ;)

In the 60s and 70s every bloke got a job. Large enterprises - power station, paper mill, councils, textile mills, lumber mills, department stores etc could find something for them to do, supervised. They also produced a large amount of apprentices, that smaller business entities couldn’t necessarily afford to train up.

Got a job, provider - chance of a girlfriend, good influence - buy a Housing Commission house, have a family - reasonably happy life.

Economic rationalism changed that.

I know that we in WA are going to have this issue shortly, but, just reading about how hard it is to get a PCR test. People having to line up for hours on end and never get to the end of the line.
I offer my sympathies to them. It must be horrendous.
But I wonder just how many of those lining up, were part of the "Freedom for us" marchers that paraded maskless through the streets ,demanding to be freed!!!
Not many is my guess. Suspect those maskless also wouldn’t get tested even if symptomatic

The 60's saw low inflation but that changed in the 1970s with high inflation and stagflation and economic rationalism was about avoiding a repeat of that.

The grubs would gladly take up a hospital bed and the free medical care that goes with it though.

Better economic managers my ass

“The drop in spending after the key Christmas and Boxing Day trading was much sharper this year than in previous years,” it said, with NSW the most evident with visitors apparently avoiding the “premier state”.

There was 25% less spending in the week to 2 January 2021 compared with the week to 2 January 2020, the bank said.

Other states haven’t done much better, though. Victoria’s spending was off 19%, Queensland 17% and the other states off 15%.”
